Hey guys, I finally built a good load in my 6.5creed gun (berger 140hybrid + 41.2gr of H435 + alpha brass resized -.003 after firing) I'm in the 2780-2790fps range at 70F outside and loaded .010 off the lands. Sd of 9 and less than 1/2" at 100.

I get a little ejector mark on the back of my cases. Dropped down to 41gr's (2775fps) and still have that little mark.

Heavy bolt lift doesn't start until around 41.5 or higher. Does the tempest 3 lug action have anything to do with this?

Well dang, while doing it... I realized my new rounds aren't extracting/ejecting(they fired great yesterday). Tilting the gun slightly up, the load falls right back (no rifling marks on the bullets). Now I wonder if the bullets are slamming into the bolt a little when fired...

.003 shoulder bump might be a touch too much

It depends on where the .003 started from. For example, if you used a virgin case that’s was fired with a lowish charge (an early developement load) , it may never have grown to chamber dimension. You may have written down that number and have been sizing to that for subsequent loads. So lapua brass, which starts out well shorter tha a go gauge to begin with, now has a bunch extra headspace with your .003 bump.

Easy way to check this is to take a couple of fired and sized cases and chamber them with a disassembled bolt(no striker assembly), close the bolt, and see if you can thrust the bolt forward. The ejector will be pushing the bolt lugs into contact(bolt to the rear). You can very easily feel .001 or less of headspace this way. .005-.010 will feel like a mile. The bolt only has so much fore and aft travel because it’s constrained by the receiver body. Since your bolt isn’t even grabbing the case, you could have far more than this amount.

I may have grabbed a few fired cases that were on the shorter end... I checked some more and some actually are close to +.002 of Saami

Darn! Looks like I need to fire everything that got oversized so I can do it right the next time

I initially did the bolt check like you mentioned -.001 of Saami is like butter. Probably where I should aim for next.
