Yesterday I got a chance to go down to Rockcastle shooting center and watch some of the Mammoth Sniper Challenge. I want to thank the staff and volunteers for being very helpful and friendly. It was definitely a learning experience, as this was my first time witnessing a match.
Barrett was there as one of the sponsors. They had a tent set up, showing off some of there products. They let us fondle a couple of there rifles and gave us the specs on them. Then to my surprise one rep turned and asked if we would like to help sight in the MRAD 338 Lapua at 600m. We took turns at the 600m target, I hit all three of my shots. Then a few of us got a turn with the 50 cal M99 suppressed. I can't thank them enough, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Now I have a bone to pick with the Barrett reps. I blame them for making me want an MRAD. I never would've consider a 338, because of ammo cost and I only have a 300yd range. During my visit I found Rockcastle has a 1300yd range. Range problem solved, I live about 40 mins away. Now I just need to find some extra money for ammo and the rifle. I've been getting components and cash together for a 6mm build, may have to change directions now.
