The AR15 Picture Thread

New 5.56 precision rig, built around a Proof Research carbine fiber wrapped ("CFW") 16" barrel with intermediate length gas system. Battle Arms Development 556-LW receiver set and forend. Vltor A5 recoil system. JP FMOS bolt carrier group, all Ionbond DLC coated. Geissele ambi charging handle. The new 3.5 pound trigger from TriggerTech, a product that has to be experienced to be fully appreciated. SLR adjustable gas block. Just about every small part that V Seven makes in titanium, also DLC coated by Ionbond. The Cerakote is Elite Sand, which is rapidly becoming my favorite. Only 5.5 pounds and half-MOA capable.

This is my current setup. I need to put it through its paces. If you are using some kind of PDW stock I highly recommend the Ergo 4093 Grip. For me, it really reduced the wrist strain when gripping the rifle.

BCM Recce 16 “lightweight”
ELW CHF Barrel
13” KMR Mlok Rail
BCM BCG
Fossa 5.56 FH
Leupold XV-R Patrol 1.25-4 w/ QT lever
ADM QD 30mm mount
Magpul Pro offset BUIS
Geiselle charging handle
Larue MBT-2 (light spring)
Geiselle maritime bolt catch
BCM Grip, VFG, and rail covers
B5 Bravo stock
Ferro concepts slingster

This rifle is my “do all” rifle. It’s scary accurate at 300 yards, have yet to stretch it further.

This will eventually have a Dead Air flash hider, whenever my Sandman S finally gets to come home.

This is a project that I’m just wrapping up. This one (and the Recce above) both need a light. I need to get some rail covers for it as well. Otherwise, it’s about done.

BCM 16” ELW CHF Barrel
KMR-Alpha 13” HG
BCM BCG
DD front sight
Magpul Pro rear BUIS
Trijicon MRO
ADM lower 1/3 QD mount
Geiselle DDC CH
Colt lower
Larue MBT-2 trigger (heavy spring)
Some Ambi safety from previous owner
Some anti-roll pins
BCM grip and stubby VFG
B5 Bravo stock
Magpul MS1 sling that I had laying around in the safe

Traded a G19 gen 5 and mags for the upper and (factory) colt lower together from a local guy. Didn’t like the rattle can job, so I decided to strip it. Unfortunately, the rail’s finish was ruined so I decided to hit the whole thing with Aervo field drab. It’s incredibly light weight and points well. It will be my primary rifle for carbine classes, etc.

Will eventually get a Dead Air flash hider when my sandman s gets here.

my most recent, still deciding on optics not sure yet what they will be issuing these with, Colt upper BCG lower, DD HF barrel, surefire 4 prong

A hard use rig - with looks - built special order for one of our nation's finest just returning from deployment. Noveske HFCL 14.5" barrel with pinned and welded Surefire WarComp. Feed ramps contoured and polished. MSTN Ionbond DLC coated bolt carrier with fitted JP bolt running hard inside a SanTan Tactical STT-15L billet receiver set. Geissele Mk 4 rail plus Super Charging Handle, LaRue MBT trigger, and lots of V Seven titanium parts. Vltor A5 recoil system. Plastic stuff from Magpul. Special order extra tall KAC mount for the Aimpoint T-2. Built that way for a reason. It's the same as they use at work.

DMR-style AR. 18.5" BA barrel, fluted, PA 4-14x FFP, ASA side-charger, cheap bipod, and Liberty Mystic X. Have shot it out to 860yds and was drilling a man-size pretty consistently.

I can't quit coming up with new combinations for this 5" long, 8.4 ounce Thermal Defense Solutions Bantam II suppressor. Here it is on an SBR with a Noveske 14.5" mid-length "skinny" HFCL barrel. Even with optic and suppressor the whole thing, unloaded, is under 7.5 LB!

That is the Sierra Precision Rifle (aka "SPR") grip.

It's not soft, but it is indeed quite comfortable. It fits my hand perfectly. I like to call it my "power steering".

David Tubb used this same grip on the original Tubb 2000 precision rifle about 20 years ago.

Finished up this build this weekend. Still might change the grip to the mod 3 and add some FDE BCM rail covers but other than that I’m pretty pumped to shoot this thing. I have a little over 800 rounds of CBC/magtech 77gr OTM to run through it.

Horrible pics, but here’s my main go-to AR:

-14.5” Rainier Arms Select Match 416SS-5R Barrel
-5.56 with 1-8” twist
-PWS Comp
-13” Troy Mlok Rail
-Streamlight HLX w/pressure pad
-BCM Mlok handguard grip
-BCM4 Upper Receiver
-BPM Lower Receiver
-BCM Ambi charging handle
-Trijicon MRO Patrol
-JP FMOS BCG & JP Bolt
-Geissele SSP
-Magpul K2+ grip
-JP SCS
-Magpul MOE Rifle stock

Use it mostly for 2 gun matches and used to be a truck gun, but my AR pistol took over that spot.

Seekins Precision AGB
BCM Mlok rail

Handy little AR pistol that’s set up for 200 yds and in. Of course it can shoot further, but I got other rifles for that?

Great looking rifle, especially the fit of the rail to the upper; why the choice of the CTR stock?

MM

Thanks! Everything does fit together nice and tight on that rifle for sure? I went with the CTR because I had a spare one sitting around, color matches, and I’ve just been using them for a long time. I’ve always liked Magpul stocks and I like supporting local businesses too.

I too love the CTR stock I think its a light and tuff little stock and they make different size cheek pieces to get the proper cheek weld, I also run the enhanced rubber butt pad it makes a difference, I decided to run it on my Ruger RPR to shave weight the RPR was 22oz the CTR is 8oz and with a cheek RISR it feels good

how fast is that geissele SSP trigger i want to give one a try on my 10.3 URGI build

how fast is that geissele SSP trigger i want to give one a try on my 10.3 URGI build

Pretty damn fast, although not as fast as the SD-3G. I also have a Hiperfire 24C in one of my rifles, and it’s right up there with the SD-3G too. With that said, I just prefer the crisp clean break and reset of the Geissele triggers over any other trigger I’ve used in an AR. The SSP is a bad ass trigger and I’m considering getting another one to replace my 24C with??

Not many videos or reviews out there but the few that are say the SSP flat version is the same as the sd3g with less creep and faster break

Pretty much the only rifle I’ve consistently shot and kept around for an appreciable amount of time.

VLTOR Poly 15” Keymod
.223 Wylde 20” NM Satern
NF NXS 5.5-22 in 1” high rings
Ambi lower
Ruger RPR stock
Geissele NM

All the other components I play around with but try to focus on just shooting the piss out of it and working on myself.

It eats Mk262 by the hundreds

This AR' was built with two purposes in mind: Optimum reliability and minimum weight while accomplishing this. If you had to, say, take a "long walk", where you might want the maximum firepower in a minimal form factor, this would be the ideal rifle to have along.

Reliability and precision are ensured by only using top shelf components:

SanTan STT-15L billet receiver set
Noveske 14.5" hammer forged, chrome lined "Skinny" profile barrel with mid-length gas system - These barrels are not only light but sub-MOA capable. Feed ramps contoured and polished.
Full mass Young Mfg. M-16 bolt carrier - forged, then centerless ground, then hard chromed, and lastly Ionbond DLC coated
Chromed and then DLC coated gas key, torqued and staked by yours truly
JP DLC coated bolt - headspaced at 1.4666".
DLC coated firing pin and cam pin
DLC coated gas tube
LaRue MBT trigger
Vltor A5 recoil system with A5-H1 buffer
TIG pin and weld of the muzzle device by Matt McLearn of McLearn Custom Guns

Minimum weight is accomplished by using top shelf lightweight components that make no compromises in reliability. Starting with the STT-15L receiver set and Noveske "Skinny" profile barrel is the way to go, but there are several other components that figure into making this rifle weigh only 5 pounds, 2.5 ounces:

MFT stock
Magpul SLR grip
V7 Ti receiver end plate and tube nut, DLC coated
V7 Ti buffer stop
V7 Ti grip screw
V7 Hybrid Ti/Al 57 degree safety
V7 Ti barrel nut
V7 Ti gas block
V7 Ti Fusion muzzle brake
Super rare magnesium alloy BCM KMR - long ago discontinued

I hope I never have to make a long walk home. But, if I ever did, this would be a key part of the sort of kit I'd like to have available to me.
