So, I grew up on the series. On one hand, campy and over-dramatized.

But on another hand, I've been to Schuyler, VA. I appreciate depression-era history. And the creator of the series Earl Hammer... was from the town.

Caught a few episodes lately on HallHD. And, you know, it's a really great program!! Anyone who appreciates Depression-era America will find some interesting themes. The characters may be over-wrought, but the concepts really capture the Depression and WW2 era.

It may be a bit dramatized, but there is a lot of interesting stuff going on there.

Ok, I like the Waltons... I'll hand in my Mancard. But watch a few episodes and you might be surprised! It's a series that a lot of folks around here might find refreshing and relevant.

Cheers,

Sirhr

I remember as a kid when faced with having to give up something for Lent, I tried to give up the Waltons because for a 5-6 year old kid that shit was just not that interesting.

Havent seen the show in a long time but I bet Id be nostalgic for the times in which Ma, Pa and John Boy lived.

Decently du=one series, but I still have a problem with Grandpa. Will Geer was a card carrying (literally) Communist, and active in the CPUSA for quite some time. Whenever I see him running from the bear in "Jeremiah Johnson," I find myself rooting for the bear.

Yeah, I watched it as a kid. My wife and I found it on the Cozy network on cable again recently. I got my five year old to watch it for a short period of time. Always had as stated a campy undertone, but great "moral of the story" type of motif. Something missing from a lot of more modern TV narrative.

Watched an old episode with the wife this week and just laughed. John Boy could not bring himself to shoot the family turkey, however in the end...he shoots the black bear and saves his father's life.

Just watching the turkey hunting scene was comedy.

Will Geer also was a peter puffer.
