…….a follow up to my previous post about making a new top for my Sinclair front rest…..

Got a chance to shoot with it and it holds the rifle perfectly still, better than expected.

Was looking at alternative methods of using one of the Garmin / Athlon chronos. I don’t shoot a chassis so a gun mount was out. Not all that jazzed about the relatively small footprint of the supplied tripod either. Came up with this which should be just fine. Now if Athlon would get them to market a decision could be made. Went ahead and made new leg posts while at it.

Is that not going to transfer a lot of shock directly to the unit?

Don’t believe it would. The rest does not move at all during a shot. The legs are pointed and either sit directly on the bench wood top or on a rubber pad made for that purpose. The legs have point protectors on them in the pix….

Are guys having issue with shock to the units when using the gun mounted chronos?

There are several videos out there of xeros offset mounted directly to rails on rifles that appear to work fine.

Ok just wondering.
I was trained in soldering and smt assemblies. My .gov spec inspected stuff would not be a problem.

Different criteria in places for thier requirements and some may not take shock well.

Then there is criteria for 100 degree heat going to well below zero in 60 seconds at max climb out.

Every time a shot is taken a wave goes out through a barrel. Ammount is a huge variable.

Bear in mind the device generating the shock is sitting on a 1” thick sandbag sitting on a 18# rest. There is very little movement involved. I’d bet I could stand a loaded round on one of the leg tops and it wouldn’t fall on the shot.


I’m not sure what you mean by barrel block. Neither of the Manners stocks I posted have any form of mini chassis or bedding block. Both are pillared and bedded.

Good idea. I can do ok on mig but really need to get going on learning to use that new Miller Tig machine that's been sitting for a couple of years now.

Funny enough I am a TIG welder who does a lot of welding daily on mild, stainless and aluminum, but I’m not that good of a MiG welder . To me it’s so weird having so little control?

The little Santa dude and tornado is back from like 2018? Been welding since 2016 as my job in a fab shop. 0.35 70s whatever mild filler wire
The bead blasted flat piece was a broken RC car piece? Cast aluminum, maybe 1/8” thick.

A couple of years ago, before heading to Labrador, I made a foot for my Dakar kick stand. Because it always was way too small and on dirt would sink in. The only times I ever 'dumped' the bike was kickstand crap.

But my 'new' foot (which was a smooth piece of aluminum) didn't do 'great' in part because the bolt heads were sticking up (fine no dirt.. not so good on pavement.) And I still wanted more 'height' to keep the bike more upright.

So made up a new foot. Based on Bipod claw designs. Stainless, not aluminum.

This won't slip on anything! Stainless foot with sharp claws. I will probably leave footprints on asphalt from coast to coast! Will have the added benefit of keeping the bike more 'upright' as the original Dakar kickstand lays the bike 'way' too far over.

Going to have some fun painting it up, too. Why not?

Maybe I can park my bike on top of an ANTIFA or some kind of commie troll.

You need to add reverse letters of SN (Schloss Nitro) so they know it's from your bike.

Or, just your initials...
