Not sure I ever saw a thread on this... but I mentioned it in the 1917 thread.

All I will say about it is that it is one of the most magnificent examples of film as art that I have ever seen. I can't even begin to say what an amazing, important and stunning bit of film-making this is.

Watched it tonite with about 250 military cadets and then held a discussion after. Incredible evening.

If you have a repertory theater in your area, see it on the big screen. If not, pull your chair close to your TV and watch it up close and personal.

Amazing movie.

I seen this at the theater the day it came out. Very powerful and very well done. I believe HBO or Starz ran it for a few days back at the end of last year. I watched it a few more times. I would love to see more Docs/movies edited to add color.

saw it when it came out in 3d. never have I had a more out of time and space experience. the song at the end helped me face the outside world.

Glad you brought this up Sirhr, I watched this (on Amazon?) recently and man, incredible. That old film, I forget why it looked so fast... I used to know. Something to do with frames per second maybe? Sound was probably missing if ever there at all. So they had to reconstruct it, colorize it and make it digital, fill in all the gaps of missing images to make a linear, smooth HD image that appears seamless and not "jumpy" or "fast" and read the lips and re-create the sound. The sound was equally amazing if you ask me, because it came from nothing and sounds as if it's actually part of it, not some disembodied or narrator-ish read. And they did it to the point it looked as if someone could have went back in time and filmed it with modern cameras.

Definitely a new twist on it. Definitely worth watching.

Yeah, I rewound that last part and sang along... I guess infantry songs at heart never really change.

I saw it in the theater last year when it came out. By far one of the best "war" movies I have ever seen. I am glad to hear it is on amazon. I wondered when it would come out where I can rewatch it with my kids. I highly recommend it and make sure you stay after credits to see the background info on how they researched and restored the film.

The work was done by Peter Jackson's studio, and for the dialogue he used the staff of the British embassy - they id'd the units and had folks with the correct local accent do the voices.
Hard to watch with dry eyes.
