Thoughts on the Aero Precision SOLUS ?

Shooting sub 1/2 moa with 5 round groups - and its not even fully broken in yet, and this rifle could def do better with someone that actually knew how to shoot.

I haven’t heard much recently. Side question, which bore guide fits well with the Solus action? I was looking for one at PMA tools but wasn’t sure which one to get.

My 24” 308 criterion shouldered prefit is supposed to arrive this week from NSS after about a 6 month wait! Need to get some cleaning supplies ready to go.
Call possum hollow. He will make you whatever you need. I just had him make me a bore guide for a solus 450 bushmaster that I put together.

I use the adjustable ones. Couldn't find one that was made for the Solus, but I wish somebody would... Would only need to make 3 universal sizes of tips to fit inside the chambers with o-rings (.223/6ARC, CM/.308 Win, and magnum sizes).

For now I'm just using these... Not overly expensive, and they actually work pretty well, if you keep them tight against the chamber, and against the bolt handle stop so it doesn't leak. I bought one of the 7mm and one of the .30 cal sizes.

I use the same on mine and it's works really well. I have an all metal one for my AR, they basically work the same.

The action itself has very little to do with the accuracy or precision of the platform. Accuracy lies in the barrel, the chamber and the crown.
All else being equal (stock/chassis, trigger) If you take a factory savage barrel and put it on your Solus action, it will shoot no better than it did on the savage action.
The Solus action, when available, seems an excellent choice for the "budget" semi-custom rifle.
I looked at their website yesterday evening, they had a grand total of zero actions, of any flavor, in stock. They may be available from other sources.
I have an origin action that I am quite pleased with, I would be inclined to by another if availability is a concern.
I hope Aero unfucks themselves. I'd rather have more options than fewer.

To be fair, I knew ahead of time that it may or may not actually be in stock. I bought a barreled action from them after Black Friday that took a few months to show up. I don't care of it shows up this Friday or in December. I was actually kind of surprised that it shipped so fast. I just bought it because it was $300, and I don't have a 308 barrel for any of my Rem 700 footprint actions.

I fell into that trap with woa and noveske.

Any tips on getting 223 AICS mags to run smoothly in the Solus action in a Solus chassis? NSS Criterion barrel, adjustable mag latch on the chassis adjusted as low as possible; I “trimmed” a little off an MDT Poly magazine catch tab & it feeds now, but after I seat the mag I need to pull down on it to make sure it it sits low against the mag latch on the chassis. Wondering if a metal mag will fit/feed better but can’t find any discussions related to the issue I’m having?

I ordered a 308 barrel from them during their Memorial Day sale last Friday. Received tracking info the same day. Fed Ex shows that it will be delivered Friday.
Barrel arrived a day early, and I slapped it on my Origin last night. This weekend we’ll find out if it shoots or not.

My MDT steel AICS .223 mags run perfectly, in my .300 BLK Solus in the Aero chassis…

Has anyone ran a solus in a McMillan? They don’t inlet for it specifically and I saw some conflicting reports on it working and not working with a standard M700 inlet.

Yes, I run one in a McMillan Game Warder, and it works great. I got the 700 Clone/Universal inletting. It will NOT work with a standard 700 inlet due to the angle of the bolt, the ejection port is longer on the Solus, and the Solus has a bolt release on the side of the action, that is NOT on a factory R700 rifle. Also, McMillan does offer Aero Solus inletting specifically, but it's still just the 700 Clone/Universal inlet for the most part.

Thanks for sharing, I'm definitely gonna grab one....very keen on getting a 6 ARC barrel for my solus
Same… If I do, I’ll probably snatch that worthless @CarbonSix 7 SAW barrel off my Obsidian action, swap the bolt head for .455” and toss on a Proof CF 16” 6ARC barrel.

Then I might even consider selling my 16” Christensen MPR 6 ARC…

That's exactly what I'm thinking....I want a shorter 16" or 18" 6 ARC barrel (I live in CA so no cans for me unfortunately) but it would be for a lighter weight hunting type use case. Right now I have a 24" light varmint 308 win barrel on my obsidian action and it's a hammer but need a lighter option that won't recoil too much (I want to train my kids with the 6 ARC bolt action).

What kind of profile do those Proof 6 ARC barrels come with? I think they call it their competition contour or something right (a pretty heavy contour)? If they have a medium palma I'll probably go with that.

Edit: never mind, just found the proof part number for 28” 6mm blank with medium palma contour

My gun shop has an Aero Precision SOLUS .308 in a 17" competition chassis just sitting in their back room. The customer who put it on layaway flaked out, and 6 months prior to yesterday I told my buddy, the shop owner, if it was still there i'd come get it. He was in it for only $1200 and it hasn't been shot much, infact it still looks brand new. The only questionable item is the original buyer selected the 20" .308 Fluted Light Sendero barrel. I'm going to trade a pistol for it regardless of this but should I change the barrel to their M24 profiled barrel or utilize it as is? I figured I'd learn as I go and just shoot it. It's my optic in the picture and I definitely want a better optic. Can anyone with experience using this specific barrel and set up offer any advice?

My trade item was a P365 X-MACRO COMP AXG with an HS-507k and TLR-7Sub in like new condition. I feel I did well but am I wrong? I admittedly know nothing about the SOLUS line. Thoughts and suggestions fellas.

Thanks!

I have the same action in the same (?) chassis (Aero Precision's in-house made MDT ACCish, non-elite model copy/clone, thereof, as it looks in your picture). At the best market price, right now, Aero Precision is selling carbon fiber barreled actions for $1100, down from $1600-$1700 ( https://www.aeroprecisionusa.com/bolt-action/barreled-actions). Their aggressive market pricing has most of their items sold out fast and their customer base seems to put their money on more affordable bolt action options compared to other well-known makes by other manufacturers.

For an MDT-like chassis that goes for $800 on Black Friday, it seems to be about a $1900 gun. Your pistol goes for $1200 and your sight goes for $300 on the Primary Arms website. Amazon sells your light for $160. So you traded a pistol set-up at retail for $1660 for a rifle at $1900 best market price or about $2500 retail depending where you buy from. Right now, if you go to Aero Precision's site, you can put $100 worth of stuff in your cart and with their deal deal going on right now, ( https://www.aeroprecisionusa.com/add-on/bolt-gun-barrels), and for an additional $100, you can get another prefit barrel in your desired profile bringing things to a $200 total (shipping/tax dependent on where you live, of course).

Seems like you got a fair trade, given FFLs/dealers get industry pricing, and your friend still needs to make a profit when he sells yours. Personally, I would shoot it as is and get the Aero barrel deal if you can find a new prefit M24 profiled barrel on the Aero site

...and put it in the corner for later on once you shoot out this Sendero barrel. Just my .02.

Plenty of prefits available for the Solus action when you get ready to swap

Thanks!

I shot my stock sendro barrel for a while with a DNT optics scope and it did great.

Eventually I found a Bartlien barrel that hadn't been used, a used element theos 6-36 scope, and a krg w3 chassis.

Now my bolt gun is so good its a little boring. Its like a video game on easy mode.
