Gunsmithing Thread pitch on Krieger barrel

A friend asked me to fit a moderator to his 30/378. It is a Norwegian A tech mody. I took the muzzle break off the 30/378 but the threads do not match any of the taps I have! What thread pitch would Krieger have used?

Probably metric. Get a metric screw pitch gauge.

Nope- not metric and not Imperial fine (those being the two we use in Africa) Thought it might be whitworth or AF.

You have a mechinists handbook? You have thread pitch gauges? I dont think they would be that far off that you couldn't tell. I would measure how far apart the tips of the threads are and i bet you could single point it just right. This is where cnc's come in very very handy....

Found it- whitworth. Not something we normally use here...bugger in a word, have to order a tap from the UK...
