Tikka T3 Thread

Has anyone had any luck removing the "silent stock foam" from a T3x/T1x? I have a Kalix Teknik CR1 Adjustable Cheek Rest to install in my T1x stock and I want to remove that foam without damaging it or the stock if possible.
I just took the plastic grate out and ran a screw into the foam to have something to pull on.
Took a pair of pliers and wiggled it out....
Mine was a CTR so it had the cheek piece and the screw on top that holds it has to be removed because it went into the foam.

Good to know. I'll give it a go tonight then.

Takken from the T3X spare parts catalog

For T1X

And for T3X Tac A1

Well, the foam came out no problem. The install of the Kalix Teknik CR1 Adjustable Cheek Rest was a little more dramatic. Used what I had on hand to make the holes and the brittle stock plastic cracked. Guess I'm going to need to use some bondo and rattle can on the stock after all. Heh.

Thanks KM and Lefty. That is good to know. Have an opportunity to pic up a CTR at a good price and thinking about ditching that plastic stock and get one of the MPA chassis.
👍🏻 I am going to look into a new stock/chassis as well. I can’t get a proper cheek wield with this factory stock. It’s not bad because it is repeatable and somewhat comfortable, but it needs to be a bit higher to get into that natural head/neck positioning while prone.

What factory loads have been getting the most consistent results? So far I've gotten best with these:

Federal Berger 130gr OTM
Hornady 120gr ELDM
Barnes Vor-TX 127gr LRX

Have some of the Prime Ammo 130gr OTM on order.

I have had great results with the 147 gr Tap in 6.5. I can't find it right now so I have started a run with the 140 gr ELD and there does seem to be much of a fall off.

Just got my rifle, first 3 shot group out of the gun was 140gr ELDM measuring .22 inches

Just thought I'd give a shoutout to Eric & Karsten at AxisWorks in Tempe, AZ. They did a brake on my T3X lite 7mm RemMag. They had it turned around in a week and did a great job.

Pic from before I started the rail removal surgery to install the area 419 rail (which is quite nice)

Basic stock ctr with barrel channel sanded shoots way better than it should for what I’ve got in it.

Factory 147s are 2580 with the 20” barrel

That SWFA is a nice match up with the 20” Tikka. I may have one just like it. ;)

Took the .308 lite out before hunting season, only shot 20 rounds last year, 1 of which took down my Mule buck.

First shot was terrible, knew it as soon as i pulled the trigger. Not really a fan of our bench setups at the range, the seat thats built onto them puts me in an awkward position. Probably end up building something better, or just going prone next time.

Slowly tightened up the groups.

Anyways Thought I'd show off my new rifle build, always looking for any feedback as this is my first PRS rifle build.

My concern would be with how that barrel performs for PRS. My CTR which has a heavier barrel, drops off in accuracy fairly quickly once it heats up. The barrel you have there is really intended for hunting. I might be wrong, will be curious how you find the performance.

What caliber is it? Sorry if I missed.

I'd shoot it as is until your gear holds you back. Then call Solid accuracy for a prefit.

There's one scope better for the money imo. The tract 4.5 to 30 in MIL 😁.

It will help you communicate with other shooters more effectively. When we shoot and a guy goes, how far off was I and I say two tenths...he asks what it is in MOA we say idk and he has to do math. That should be perceived by looking through the scope but everyone learns at a different rate.

I just finished the chassis part of my first Tikka PRS PRoject, It started off as a T3x Lite veil wideland rifle to get the 24" threaded barrel, I was originally planning on going with the CTR for $100 less and getting the non fluted stainless barrel, but the availability recently has been horrible over the last few months.

I have installed it in the MDT ACC Chassis, while I was performing the changeover I upgraded the trigger spring to the M*Carbo Tikka T3 / T3x Trigger spring kit and I must say it is one of the lightest triggers I have ever felt on a rifle, I may adjust it up a bit from where it is at.

I ordered the MDT 20 MOA rail which I was pleased to find included the lug and then I mounted my 10x42 SWFA scope on it, I have new Vortex rings coming for the setup, and eventually the optics are going to be upgraded, but I should be able to have some good fun with it until I get to that point, I'll be waiting for the tract toric 4.5-30x56 in MOA which they are announcing next month and releasing in December, Unless someone knows of a radically better scope for the money?

Also the bipod will be getting upgraded to the CYKE-Pod down the road, the weaver is just there for the time being attached to a M-Lok mounting point.

Anyways Thought I'd show off my new rifle build, always looking for any feedback as this is my first PRS rifle build.

There is the timney along with the KRG Midas. There are threads about them here on the Hide. @Massoud does some great products.
I have two of the KRG’s and have been happy with them. If you want to use a Midas in a CTR, there is some minor metal removal required on the bottom metal to clear the wider trigger shoe on the Midas.
Both my Bravo and ACC were drop-in with no alterations.

Alright guys let’s hear who makes the best aftermarket Tikka barrels. I’m getting a custom 280AI built on a tikka action. Thanks!

Bolt came in from Aussie today. After some fighting and cussing ( I apparently took shroud off in wrong direction) was able to get it sorted out.

LOVE the bolt throw now and its butter smooth with this action. Easier to find and runs a bit faster than stock bolt.

Its a must have upgrade for the Tikka.

Sorry, it's a 6.5 Creedmoor.

I actually stumbled across the Tract TORIC UHD 4.5-30X56 34MM FFP MRAD ELR Extreme Long Range Rifle Scope while doing a lot of research, the Vortex Strike Eagle is really no longer a consideration but my only concern is the warranty on Tract products.

Tract has a "Gentleman's warranty" whereas Vortex straight out will warranty the thing with no questions asked... Obviously, I'm never going to intentionally damage my scope but based on the warranty alone, this might place me looking at a RAZOR HD GEN II 4.5-27X56 FFP.

A company's warranty speaks volumes to me about the quality of their products, and thus my purchase decisions.

I also have the SJC Titan PRS en route for the muzzle brake, I am thinking of having the bolt and the brake TiN - Rose plated.

I am thinking that I will be ordering a custom barrel for this fairly soon, 27" to 28", I literally want the heaviest contour barrel I can, I want the weight. what's the closest to no contour you can get?

I have been looking into manufacturers, I know there is Proof, there is Bartline, Prefered Barrel Blanks,

Any opinions or input/experience/advice with any of those? any better for the money options?

I would call a hide sponsor like @LibertyOptics and see what the razor gen 2 mil scope costs for a hide member...hint!

I think a proof MTU contour would be nice to have. I dont think you need 27 or 28 inches unless you're going 6br. I haven't used those, but I've used a criterion profit from Solid Accuracy and it shoots very well in the prs regional and nrl border wars matches I shoot. The Solid Accuracy Criterion prefit is the best bang for the buck imo. A couple others here have used them. I posted results a few pages back with Hornady Match 6mm Creedmoor. I want to say it was less than 500 bucks.

Just bought the same scope. I've been running the 6x24-50 Viper Hsl on 3 of my rifles and the Razor is night and day better. I'm very pleased with the Razor on my Tikka TAC A1 in 6.5 Creedmoor.

I didn't even think about reaching out to hide sponsors, I'm fairly new to being on here, not really aware of any of the benefits, and the cost of that barrel sounds like it might happen a bit sooner than later for sure. I'd rather get the rifle set up right as soon as possible, my big thing was wanting to get in to a Tikka action, I purchased a HMR Pro and then after seeing the lack of aftermarket options returned it.

I originally wanted a CTR but I went with what was available to me locally.

It's going to be a bit after the first of 2021 till I get the scope, as after getting the rifle, chassis, and everything else I have to recover a bit lol,

1. Scope
2. Reloading equipment

That's the list lol.

Yep. The more fun it is, the more expensive it is
I'm also a prosumer photographer, I have 16k in to that over the last 3 years. Your statement is both correct and valid lol.

So far I have one lens, or my camera body that costs more than I have invested in to PRS to date.

Don't forget kestrel, bino's, tripod, ARCA rail, barricade stop, rear bag, gamechanger, positioning bags, ammo, time to train, place to train, travel, etc

Ok, lol

  1. Scope
  2. Reloading equipment (Ammo)
  3. Good Tripod.
  4. Bag(s)
  5. Kestrel
Chassis is an MDT ACC so the Arca rail is good, my photography tripod has a really good Arca Swiss ball-head that works amazingly well for mounting my gun (It's there right now) Got Bino's, the brother who i'll be shooting with has amazing range finder, Need Bags, Gamechanger? (To Google!) Barricade stop, That will be on the Cyke Pod.

Place - Utah's West Desert
Time - TBD

:)

Patriot valley arms (@bohem) is another good barrel choice. Does Tikka shouldered prefits.

What tripod if I may ask? Cool thing is that Really Right Stuff is only down in Lehi. You can check out all their stuff in store when life is normal.

Wow really? I didn't know that RRS was here in Utah!

Tripod is a Zomei Z888 Light Weight Heavy Duty Portable Magnesium Aluminium Travel Tripod and I put a Pro Master PRO BALL HEAD - SPECIALIST SPH-45P W/QUICK RELEASE PLATE (8097) on it replacing the POS ballhead that came with the Tripod.

RRS Is Moving To Lehi, Utah
San Luis Obispo, CA, 16 February 2018 – Really Right Stuff, LLC (RRS) is pleased to announce it is moving its manufacturing operations and headquarters to Lehi, Utah by the end of summer 2018. The move to a new, 2 ½ times larger building enables continued growth and allows RRS to better serve its customers.

CEO Joseph M. Johnson, Sr. commented, “Continually rising costs in California make it tough for a small business to compete in the global economy. We love beautiful San Luis Obispo, but our employees can’t afford to buy a home. The business-friendly environment and low cost of living in Lehi, Utah made it a clear choice for us to best serve our customers and employees long-term. I’m happy to see most of our employees coming with us, keeping our RRS family largely intact.”

Located 35 minutes south of Salt Lake City along the Wasatch Front of the Rocky Mountains, Lehi is an ideal location for Really Right Stuff. It is the fifth fastest growing city in the country at the center of the high tech “Silicon Slopes.” Lehi’s beautiful natural surroundings provide easy access to hiking, mountain biking, fishing, camping, skiing, hunting, and, of course, excellent outdoor photography that spurred the birth of RRS. Six national parks are within a 4-5 hour drive from Lehi, including Yellowstone and Zion.

My Tikka started life as a Tac A1 a few years ago.

Dropped it in a MDT ACC last week and installed an Area419 20 MOA rail and ARC rings. Also running a Patriot Valley Arms prefit and a Timney T3 trigger. Factory rail was a pain in the ass to remove

I’d like to ask why the chassis vs the stock A1? Weight, add accessories? Thinking about this but having never shot a rifle in a chassis I don’t really know what I’m missing

My buddy has an ACC so I had the chance to try it out a bunch prior to making the switch. The ACC is noticeably more stable when shooting positional. Adding the weights certainly reduces felt recoil as well. If I could do it all over, I probably would've picked up a CTR and just dropped it in the ACC. But keep in mind, I'm using this rifle primarily as a PRS comp rifle. The Tac A1 is a great starting point, but if you shoot them back to back the ACC is just a more stable comfortable platform

That's exactly what I wanted to do, but due to the unavailability of the CTR I went with the T3x Lite Veil Woodland in a 24" 6.5 CM, the Tikka action was the key I was looking for, in hindsight the 20" CTR would have been fine as I am planning to re-barrel it to a more PRS focused barrel.

My T3X CTR is currently at Solid Accuracy being rebarreled, I'll post it when I get it back. To describe Tim's communication as excellent would be an understatement, and he went out of his way to pickup my rifle that Fedex delivered to the wrong damn address. Can't wait to get it back and shoot it!

I would consider a mil version of any scope you get if you are shooting PRS matches. 99% will be using mil scopes and giving any corrections in mils. Nice looking rifle, I have an ACC headed my way with all the internal weights and the weighted bag rider. Will have to see how it balances before I add more weight.

Well I got in the SJC PRS Titan Extreme brake and got it installed on the rifle, I must say that it's looking pretty nice, and if it performs anything like the Titan that I have on my 24" .223 wylde Bergara AR-15 I shouldn't be feeling a thing.

Was sending out a manners tikka stock to a forum member and met Mrs. Long Rifles Inc at the ups store in Sturgis . Side note, all 4 of us in line Were sending out firearm parts. Lol only in SoDak.

She confirmed tikka bolts are close to being ready... M16 extractor and expected price point is reasonable. Stoked!

i just bought a Tikka 20" CTR today. It was in .308 and threaded already so I can put my suppressor on it. I think it will make a great deer rifle this fall.
The CTR is a lovely model, I am sure you'll have a great time with it!

After my research of what you can do with an off the shelf rifle, the Tikka seemed like the obvious choice to me with all of the aftermarket options available, I have some future re-barreling plans for this and might seek out another Tikka action/cheap rifle to start a second project with.
