Using GPS (iphone) to measure 1000 yards?

I assume using GPS to measure such a distance would be relatively accurate? I found a very simple app called "Distance". No navigation/B.S. bells and whistles, just a distance between 2 points. While acquiring signal (mind you, I am in Dubai at the moment with a building blocking a good majority of the sky), it suggests that I am within a 5m accuracy.

Do you see anything wrong with using such a thing to measure target distances? My Leupold range finder is lucky to hit 600m, let alone smaller torso sized targets at such a range.

1002.5 vs 997.5 m is not going to be the reason you make or miss that shot. </div></div>

Just wasn't sure if such a solution was actually accurate enough. I suppose the GPS chip in these things have to be fairly accurate, eh? Also wondering if anyone else used GPS to measure distances for such a use.

In case anyone else is interested in such an app:

Also if they have "maps ruler" from google for iphone that might be an even better way to go.

You can see an aerial/satellite photo of your AO. Touch the pic where your at, it makes a dot. Touch where your trgt is and it makes a dot and instantly tells you the yardage or meters between. It works wicked good on an Android phone I have. Within 7 yards on my local 1000yard air strip according to my Leica laser.
