Conditions really weren't the greatest for shooting at these distances. You can really see the mirage at 1000 and you'll see the vapor trail of the bullet at 600 yards. Low shots @ 600 is the 400 yd berm stopping bullets from 100 - 400 yd range.

I can't do much better with these conditions and this 6.5 lb trigger. I could be a little more consistent at 1000 yds with a Huber trigger and better conditions

SORRY, don't know code for embedding.

Great shooting, especially considering the undersized bullets.

Thanks, trigger was the limiting factor more than anything else.

Re: Video: 91/30 Sniper @ 600 & 1000 yards

What scope and mount are you using? New to the surplus bolt game.

Re: Video: 91/30 Sniper @ 600 & 1000 yards

Very nice, in every respect. Congrats!

Re: Video: 91/30 Sniper @ 600 & 1000 yards

Russian PU scope and mount. These are not original to this rifle are are newer production.

Re: Video: 91/30 Sniper @ 600 & 1000 yards

I'm proud those bastids didn't know how to make an accurate rifle!

Oh, but they did. I don't know where this idea comes from but the 91/30 with a PU scope is very accurate. It will hang with any WWII sniper sand in tests scores very highly. They are rugged and take a beating.

The Russians fell in love with the sniper concept and mass produced both rifles and snipers - perhaps that's where the idea that they were not accurate comes from. They sent many untrained/undertrained snipers into battle and lost many of them. But, their lack of training was the limiting factor, not the rifle.

Great shooting. The trigger pull on typical Mosins was ugly; sniper rifles were wprked over. My competition MN sniper is a '42 Izheves restored ex-sniper with a '42 Progress scope. I had it worked over be a well-known expert on these rifles and it now has a very smooth 4.5lb trigger pull.

Re: Video: 91/30 Sniper @ 600 & 1000 yards

Manatee... I shoot my 91/30 there as well, but it's nothing even close to "original" configuration.

You really should try the .311, 174 SMK- going back to the "undersized bullet" commnent. Mine rarely misses at 600 with that bullet. I think you're underestimating the effect of shooting .308 bullets out of .311-.312 bores. The stock triggers suck, but the bullets are undersized for the bore of that rifle.

Nice shooting with the bone stock rifle.

Re: Video: 91/30 Sniper @ 600 & 1000 yards

I'm shooting .311 Sierra Match King 174gn HPBT bullets in my Mn sniper. I have been using Varget powder and found that as 43.5gn load is optimal for up to 600 yards. A friend used that powder load to 1000 yards but s using round nose bullets - not wure how the HPBTs will fare, yet.

Re: Video: 91/30 Sniper @ 600 & 1000 yards

LOL...
43.5 of Varget under that bullet is my accuracy load as well!

Oddly enough, same exact load for the .308, 175 SMK outta my son's Savage.
