Gunsmithing what about the rifling??

I'm starting a "budget build" 300 win mag, snatched a 700 BDL for a great price so why not.. The thing is, there is alot of hype regarding the 5R type, then you have #of groove choices, push vs pulled button, cut, polygonal....
I buy guns the same way as i do trucks.. what I feel in the seat... this is my fist go at a build... so I can't shoot it to see if i want it.

What I am pleading for from you guys is more of the trusted info I've been probing these pages for, for a long time now. I can tell you that I'm settled on a 26" light palma, either Bartlein, Lija or Pac-Nor 1in10. thanks guys

Also I'll be shooting HSM's take on the MK 248 MOD 1, (perty good stuff) till my brother and I can work one up that fits the new barrel better, (out of his 300WM, HSM butters the bread...) all this is in 24" though, I wanted a 26 to get a hair closer to 2900, with the 220s

You've narrowed your choices down to were it's win-win. You can't really go wrong from any of these barrel makers. I think I would want a little more weight in the barrel and go with a standard palma contour, but that's just me.

Concider availability, also - you can't shoot what you can't get. Check for delivery times from your chosen barrel makers - that may help you make up your mind.

What about type of rifling though... I'm mainly going to use this gun goofin around trying to relive glory days, but want better accuracy than the M14 I carried... (not a fmr sniper, just DM in a Brigade Recon Troop...) (was still a cool job though)

Anyone tried Pac-Nor's Poly's? How much would the poly differ from a 3 or 5 land, concerning MV?
