So about 2 or 3 years ago when I was shopping for my first rifles, I made sure to handle a good number before making a decision. One of the ones I picked up and examined at a gun show was a stock Remington LTR. I was really amazed at the finish, explicitly of the barrel - it was almost like a fine sandstone or sandpaper.
I asked, I think, on here and the precision section of arfcom, wondering if it was something custom, if other Remmy rifles came like that, etc. I was assured the 700P was the same finish (as that was the other major contender for me), and that there was nothing special about the LTR.
Well, many months, hundreds of range hours, and thousands of rounds later, I can now spot the rifles from about as far as I'm shooting them
- you guys probably know what I'm talking about. I've handled nearly everything under the sun, including those by Remington. So the other day I walked into a local shop and a new LTR was sitting on the counter. Sure enough, it had that same finish, and it was still *completely* different than any other Remington I've handled, tactical or otherwise.
So, what gives? How are they finishing these LTRs?
