What exactly *is* the finish on an LTR?

So about 2 or 3 years ago when I was shopping for my first rifles, I made sure to handle a good number before making a decision. One of the ones I picked up and examined at a gun show was a stock Remington LTR. I was really amazed at the finish, explicitly of the barrel - it was almost like a fine sandstone or sandpaper.

I asked, I think, on here and the precision section of arfcom, wondering if it was something custom, if other Remmy rifles came like that, etc. I was assured the 700P was the same finish (as that was the other major contender for me), and that there was nothing special about the LTR.

Well, many months, hundreds of range hours, and thousands of rounds later, I can now spot the rifles from about as far as I'm shooting them

- you guys probably know what I'm talking about. I've handled nearly everything under the sun, including those by Remington. So the other day I walked into a local shop and a new LTR was sitting on the counter. Sure enough, it had that same finish, and it was still *completely* different than any other Remington I've handled, tactical or otherwise.

So, what gives? How are they finishing these LTRs?

It's blatantly not. Their website is awful and inconsistent, and I've come to regard the Remington staff much like the population of a small city - with everyone from scientists to complete imbeciles working there

Just stating what is says. while its not very specific, its the exact same wording.
plus it also portrays the ltr as nothing more than the 700p except shorter and fluted barrel. Now I'm not saying this is correct but according to several sites thats all the ltr is so idk why itd have a different finish. And I looked at both about 5 years ago and i never noticed any difference in the finish, but that was 5 years ago

Yeah, not attacking you, just saying that their website can be downright useless when trying to find detailed, accurate information.

Re: parkerized, I guess that's it, since the finish on the 1100 Tac model shotguns is similar and I suppose are listed as park'd

Re: What exactly *is* the finish on an LTR?

Pretty sure they're parkerized... mine sure seems to be (bought it last year). I will say however that as far as parkerizing goes it appears to be pretty tough. My parked Springfield Loaded 1911 rusts if I look at it the wrong way. The LTR has been out in the rain several times and otherwise abused, not a spot of rust on it. I don't know why the difference, but there does seem to be one. Either Remington's is good, or Springfield's is shitty, not sure which...

GunGuru, I handle my 700P all day and night - I'm telling you these are different!

The park on a 700P's barrel is much "softer", so to speak. We'll drive down to Zero Hour next weekend, I'll show you what I mean

But whatever, this case seems to be closed. They're parked, probably just more aggressively than their other models.

Haha I did not even relize this was your post. In that case let's go.

Re: What exactly *is* the finish on an LTR?

I do know what you are talking about. It seems like the new Rem sps-v have the same finish as the LTR's. The 700P has a very "ashy" finish where as the LTR/sps have that better parkerized look.

I have never been there, how is it anyway. Worth taking a ride or no?

Is it similar to an AR barrel, in finish? I've seen parkerizing from light gray, to oily black. I think it get darker the more the chemical batch is used during Park'ing.
