Fascism is used every day by everyone, mostly by politicians, and especially lately. What does Fascism really mean, and why is this term being used all the time?
Well, story short, its Italian, first used to describe Mussolini's mission in the early 1900's. And I quote:

"fascism /făsh′ĭz″əm/

noun

  1. A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, a capitalist economy subject to stringent governmental controls, violent suppression of the opposition, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism.
  2. A political philosophy or movement based on or advocating such a system of government.
  3. Oppressive, dictatorial control."

So, no one in our country is guilty of that. Not yet anyway.

The term has become so diluted that now everyone can be called a Fascist. So, the term now is meaningless. These days every politician using the word and 99% of the population probably has no idea of what it really means and where it came from.

fascist /făsh′ĭst/

A derogatory label smooth brains use against their opponent(s) when they cannot factually support their viewpoints and/or policies in a debate.

Alternative labels are racist, bigot, and an array of x-phobes where x describes the identity group that the labeler needs votes from.

Now seriously, I would say that the label of Fascism should be reserved for the sum total of

1) Authoritarianism

2) Heavy censorship of information and suppression of dissenting views

3) Regulated markets up to exclusively state owned enterprises

4) (Ethno)nationalism

The Trump administrations are "guilty" of 4 and in the astigmatic eyes of Democrats also of 1 but definitely not of 3

The Biden administration was demonstrably guilty of 1 (Covid) and 2 (according to Zuckerberg's statement and twitter files), moving towards 3 (green new deal, infrastructure boondoggle) but definitely not of 4

What comes to mind is the adage that when sitting in the glasshouse one should refrain from throwing rocks.

When sane people think of FASCISTS they think of Hitler and Mussolini, the first, once in power, called himself a Socialist in his writings and recorded speeches, and the latter called himself a Communist until he segued into a National Socialist, aka, Nazi. The Godfather of Fascism was Giovanni Gentile, who was also the primary author of Mussolini's book The Doctrine of Fascism, and Gentile called himself a Socialist.

The Founding Fathers of our Constitutional Republic, and by extension us Conservatives and Conservative-Libertarians, are the antithesis of Fascism.

This isn't rocket science.

Prove this one ^^^.

I don't have to, I didn't write it, just looked up a dictionary definition.

The purpose of my response was to indicate fascists may exist even if fascism is not in control ... the first post in the thread is vague and lacks meaning.

Only because they've adjusted the definition.
We know by history that El Duce and Adolf both were classified fascist.
Neither are right winged ideals or styles of government.
National Socialist Workers party- "right wing" and socialist are diametrically opposed ideologies.
Italy was a Socialist dictatorship lead by El Duce, nothing right wing about it.
The right wing line of shit is a recent invention to demonize and create balance to a dichotomy that democrats/socialists/communist are clearly
aligned.
Where in the right of leftists ideals leads to socialist/dictatorial ideals?
It isn't a circle it's a linear line opposite of social/communal ideals.

This ^^^ is why books in print are important, they are damned hard to edit.

Its not really a proof, but it doesn't fit the U.S. definition of left/right politics. It refers to the politics of the interwar era in Europe. (1920-1940)
Commies: Left (USSR)
Fascist: Right. (Nazi/Mussoli/Franco)

They key word is "authoritarian" Left Wing Authoritarians tend to be Communists/Socialist. Right Wing Authoritarians tend to be Fascists.

Americans just call anyone they don't agree with a fascist.

Since we are a splinter of LIBERAL England our Left/Right falls squarely as centrists when viewing the other two extremes. Remember at the time England was one of the most "liberal" (not today's meaning) aka "most free" or "libertarian" country in the world (Tyrant George the III was more of a heriditary president--but he got the hate as head of state) so our right/left is tiny compared to the right/left of Europe in the early 20th century. Although the left is making a go of it truth be told.

Your definition #1 is the literal definition of the Trump regime. They’re fascists you dumbass, by the very definition of the word.

For each of the clauses of definition 1:

The list of ways Trump has shattered the rule of law to consolidate power is so long it defies imagination. From manipulating the Supreme Court and Congress to outright ignoring the constitution and the system of checks and balances that has stabilized US Government for 250 years, Trump has ONLY done things that concentrate power around him, including normalizing the idea of an American Dictator and suggesting that he will simply not abide by future elections that don’t elect him.
Let’s start with tariffs as the definition of stringent governement control of pseudo-capitalism.
Trump called for his supporters to assault a dissenter at a Trump rally…sounds like violent suppression of opposition to me. Also, his traitorous interview this morning wherein he referred to half the citizenry of the US as “evil”. He will literally be the cause of the next civil war.
“There’s good people on both sides”. Fucking nationalist dick bag.

It’s impossible to read the definition of the term fascist and NOT see the US hurtling toward being the bad guy in world war three. Unless of course you are a Trump supporter…a fascist.

Put down the crack pipe dude… you’re starting to glow.

I’m no fan of Trump the person myself, and think up until his near-death experience in Pennsylvania last year, he was a world class asshole (and he’s still a bit of a narcissist), but he’s a great chief executive, and more importantly for me, he truly loves America.

So let me get this straight…Trump dismantling the deep state, removing cumbersome rules and regulations, and removing power from every governmental entity he can reach = authoritarian in your eyes.

Got it…. Fucking 🤡🌎
