They mention Recon & Nomad ( and say the top spec version only runs on Nomad ) , also what about other PDAs , to run these apps , as I have heard from a few people that the Recons are not very good .

What about Talla -tech ?

Concerned about the very short battery life from all these coluor PDAs as well ?

Cheers Chris

Re: What PDA to run FFS software ?

Our recon works fine and we have a Talla Tech that is a mess and never worked correctly, so its hard to say.

I run them on an iPaq and it works very well... battery life is what it is, so it's hard to say on that. But our Recon does well with the programs we run on it.

Chris,

I just went through this; the newest version of FFS 4.4 only comes on an SD card. The Recon will not take a card so at his time it is a no-go I spoke with Blaine Fields about this prior to my purchase, but the Nomad will. The Nomad also has numeric key pad so it is not all screen touch input. I went with an HP 211 PDA, battery life was also a concern of mine, looking into a solar charger right now, there are many out there just want to find the one with a strong charge capability.

THE RECON IS A NO-GO at this time with version 4.4, if you want more info call Blaine Fields at FFS. He told me he may try to find a work around in the future. You need hardware that accepts an SD card internally, an adapter will not work. I am a land surveyor and use data collectors everyday, I had a smoking deal on a Recon with GPS from a supplier, before I was going buy it, I checked myself on this.

I had heard from a Kiwi surveyer that the Recons where basically not worth the price , he seemed lees than impressed with them .

Whats the diff , between the Recon & Nomad etc

Cheers Guys

There must be some thing that is able to run this card & is ruggered
