**WHAT'S LIGHTEST BULLET/FASTEST LOAD in your 308

have any of you been on a successful speed quest with a light varmint weight bullet in .308 with success? Probably much easier in the 14 twist guns but how about those with 10 or 11 twists?
Mine is TRG .308 with 11 twist.
What has worked for you? THANK YOU

There used to be a company that sold fiberglass sabots. One would allow you to use .22 bullets in a .30 cartridge. You might search to see if they still sell them.

(I have seen similar sabots for black powder.)

I don't shoot a 308, but I do occasionally shoot 110gr V-Max bullets out of my 300WM, 3800 fps. They would shoot fine and be less ridiculous out of a 308.

It may take some time to find appropriate reloading data. I am a fraction of a grain short of a full case with this load, no pressure and light recoil.

FWIW the accuracy in my Sendero is as good as any other bullet and I can make a water-filled milk jug fly a good 15 feet straight up -- bullet doesn't seem to exit. Can't wait to hit a coyote with one.

I run a Sierra 110HP in .308 from my FNH SPR 24" with 46.5 grs of IMR4895 @ 3054 fps. 1-12 twist. It groups right at 1-1.25 MOA with Es=22.37 and Sd= 11.13. I haven't had it beyond 200 yards yet, but we'll see next Saturday.

I just started testing some of the 110 grain Hornady AMAX bullets in my Remy 700. I just did a test yesterday at the range with my first load. I used Horany TAP brass with WLR primers and 52.0 grains of IMR-4895. The 10 rounds I shot chrony'd at 3320 fps. But the best shot group I could get was 1.5 MOA at 100 yards.....

I'll be doing some more testing later this month with different powder charges......maybe I'll get the right load....

Ok....just came back from the range. I adjusted the powder charge down to 51.4 grains of IMR-4895. This allowed me to put 3 bullets in the same hole. Group measured .144" This was only a 3 shot group, but I think it will suffice.

Took them to 500yds at Tiger Valley recently... <grin>

They did well.

I run AA2460 under the 110 Vmax at about 3200fps and get 3/4 moa out to about 300yards from a factory Remington barrel. Im down to my last pound so I will have to look for something else soon. That 110 is quite dynamic on coyotes and such. Dont plan on saving fur.

I've been playing with the 110 VMAX and the 125 TNT for woodchuck hunting. You can get the VMAX to go about 100 fps than the TNT, on average. Both are highly destructive on varmints and will give you excellent accuracy at short-to-mid ranges. However, I have found the TNT to be superior at the longer ranges (beyond 600 yards). It maintains its speed and accuracy out to a longer distance than the VMAX.

I like the Nosler 125 Ballistic Tips a lot. I load them with 50.5gr of W748 and it pushes them around 3300 out of my 20 inch tight bore Bartlein. They're extremely accurate out long range and are devastating to whatever's on the wrong end of your barrel.

I load for 168 A-Max.
It'l f-up a chuck.
Havn't tried lighter or heavier yet.

iam using 110vmax in new lap brass and cci benchrest primers loaded at the moment to .006 of the lands,
using up my last lot 2460 i am getting about 3450fps
all shots going into a 1/2 target at 2ooy
it really does not do much more damage than a 22.250 at normal ranges , really need to find more speed and think then the 110vmax will become spectacular
load them in somthing like 30-338lap
a friend uses a ultramag 300 @ 3900 thats fun!

Not from a 308, but the 110 Vmax SCREAM from my 1:10 twist 30-06 with a 26" barrel.

I haven't shot any since about 2003 but it was running around 3700fps atop a healthy dose of H335, I think about 55 grains, but I don't remember for sure. I lost a lot of loading notes in a moving accident and had to start over again.

I tried some 90 grain 30 Carbine bullets from it, but the FMJ's would disintegrate before the 25y line. My guess is that if you could hit anything inside of that range with it, they're somewhere around 4000
