Christmas Day was the first time I had both of my boys.
Never noticed the "wind flag" before in any pictures...pretty cool.
It’s helpful this time of the year with featureless terrain. However, it doesn’t always tell the whole truth.I've never seen one that didn't lie at times!!

So Christmas afternoon was a nap in the hammock. Good food and fair weather make great napping.

Took up a beech log to my FIL house. We cut it up into chunks for his wood lathe. Turned it last night.

I know. At least wood isn't cutty like metal lathe chips. I've used those quite a bit. At least when you cut with lathe chips the meat is still there unlike when you grind the skin off. Picked up a few inches of snow last night. They’re predicting 1-2 more this afternoon.

Went to G. Forks to spend Christmas with the majority of the kids/G. kids/SIL's. Last night the forecast predicted 3 to 15 inches of snow. They were right, on the high side. By 3 pm today things had settled down enough shoveling was worth the effort.
A solid 12-16 on the south facing sidewalks. Both interstates mostly closed, secondary roads no travel advised.
This weather brings The Snow People out.

My Martinez hammer came in today. Can't wait to try this thing out tomorrow!
The hardest part of the zompocalypse will be pretending that I ain't excited about it.
So I was leaving my place tonight, looked back and my brown friends have finally returned. They were missing during all of regular archery/rifle season so I was beginning to think they were going to stay high-up this year. We're low on grass, dry in the creek bottom, and had lots of cow and people traffic all fall. Bout a 250yd shot from my cabin and just in time for shoulder season.

East of the Red the Minne-sota folks say there's 2 seasons; road construction and winter. I like your comparison better.
Several years ago when we had a house full of little kids, there was an unusually cold summer. Turned the heat off first part of July, back on latter part of August. Kids and the Child Bride were freezing. Short AC season, looong heating season. I heat with LP,currently selling for $2.10. Going to be a long winter.
