Over the past 6 months I have been seeing more steel and aluminum being transported just on flatbed tractor trailers alone than I have ever seen in my life.
I do a 30 mile commute to work on the highway from the outskirts of urban St. Louis to a rural town. I see everything from coils, to round and flat bar stock steel. Also round and flat alumininum bar stock. This evening doing my 30 mile drive home I saw 13 different flatbeds with steel coils on them. Many evenings I will see half a dozen flatbeds with steel coils. And I am guaranteed to see at least 2-4 coils of steel every day of the week doing this drive.
I have even seen 4 different trains as of recently carrying nothing but coils of steel.
I also see a lot of large castings being transported.
I hope all of this steel and aluminum is not being transported to our ports to be shipped out to China!
I hope that our own manufacturing is ramping back up and consuming it.
I do see that a lot of manufacturing/production companies are doing a lot of 2nd and 3rd shift hiring. I sure hope that U.S. manufacturing is getting back into the world market.
Whats your opinions about my observations?
