This buck green scores 203 Typical, NET, not gross. If so, this would place this buck in the top three typicals all time in Wisconsin , and that includes the great Jordan Buck at 207 that was world record for decades. These pictures were taken in front of the Cabela's store in Prairie du Chien. The hunter shown in the picture a 15 year old Williams boy from Millville , WI . The deer was shot between Millville and Woodman. The buck was shot with a rifle during the youth hunt in early October. This deer has 16 inch tines. The manager at Cabelas offered him $25,000 on the spot the day the pictures were taken. Cabela's offer included making a replica set of antlers that look identical to the originals and the hunter would be able to keep the cape. The boy and his father turned down that offer. The manager then called the Cabelas headquarters in Nebraska and immediately got permission to offer the boy $61,000 for the rack. He still said no.

Nice deer. Poor kid. Now he will never be happy with another deer he shoots. How do you top that. Hopefully he enjoys hunting for being out doors.

Re: Wisc. Typical 203"

I woulda sold it, hes gonna need 20k to go on hunting trips for the next 5 years to even be around deer that would half way compare to that one. In 5 years he will have out grown it. I didnt shoot anything for the past 5-6 years after I shot my 181 1/8 deer. This year was the first year I killed a buck, and he was maybe a 150 class whitetail.

Shit-

cant eat antlers and with 61K greens one can do a lot of good or get feed for a very long time.

When I found a gold medal roebuck, dead and decayed at the tender age of 13, I twisted the neck of and brought it home,

a german hunter offered me about 400 USD for it,

SOLD

For the money I got I bought my first real airrifle, a .22 Webley Tracker.

So in short, had that been mee I would have taken the money and ran with it.

Best regards Chris

Re: Wisc. Typical 203"

I would not have sold it....but with some careful dealing and a good marketing plan one would do quite a bit better than $61K over time.

...besides, Cabelas in not really the friend of average sportsman. They lease up land (will probably go after the place where this one was taken if possible) and cater to those that are well off with their high priced hunts. They have closed off a fair amount of property in western NE.

Re: Wisc. Typical 203"

I'd have taken the $61K or the $126K in a heartbeat, the kid is 15, even invested super conservatively if left alone over the 50 years before he retires he'd have a mint. Not a bad deal, buck of a lifetime hunt outcome and your entire retirement fund taken care of in one trip before you are even 16.

Re: Wisc. Typical 203"

Those first two offers were a joke and an insult. Someone was basicly trying to rip off a kid that didnt know what they have been shelling out for trophies.
i'd say hold out...for 100K +
That is what a few hanging in the Mitchell SD Cabelas were sold for.

Would I have let it go for $126k? Dang Skippy! in a heart beat. I could fix a lot of problems with half that.

Re: Wisc. Typical 203"

Not only is big money ruining hunting, but these days with all the management and food plots, nutrition etc. and business of hunting we are going to see more and more huge bucks and already are. A 200" buck in 10 years isn't going to be anywhere as rare or special near what a 200" buck was 20 years ago. 160-180 bucks are becoming practically common now.

The best hunting states are those with lots of federal land, because the way things are going that's the only place you are going to be able to hunt in a few years if you don't want to shell out a couple hundred dollars a day to hunt or big money for a multi-day guided hunt. ND has already gone that way over the past 25 years, it's joke trying to hunt there now if you don't own land or aren't willing to pay to hunt.

The really sad part is and I hear this all the time is many hunters are just going to be pissed about this kid taking a huge deer in the youth season. I hear guys bitching all the time about how the youth season is unfair because they get first shot at the big animals.
