Wood stock? Guidance requested...

Have a chance to put my SPS Tactical 20" into a Boyd's pepper laminate stock for $35! It's a "Grade 3" which is a "needs work," but I'm handy. It seems Boyd's made some stocks on their CNC mills that they were unable to fit a Rem. butt-plate onto, and Remington canceled the order.

Would this be an improvement over the flexible plastic nightmare that this rifle came with? I'll have to hog out the barrel channel and have been warned that the fore-end, so configured, will have less than 1/16" of wood at the tip!

Avoid and wait for an aluminum-bedded B&C or get it and try my hand?

Considering the statement about the 1/16th in at the forearm tip...the Boyds would be an improvement. But...the B&C is your best bet. The laminate is good stuff, but not in that thick/thinness. JMHO

Thanks for the head's up, team. I will wait and get the B&C stock. I think the laminate would look good but my concern over the strength of the stock at the fore-end - even @ $35 will prevent me from doing it.

Plus, I am so broke that $35 spent on an experiment is inadvisable.

I am so broke now I can't afford gasoline ($12 per trip!) to drive the 70 mile round trip to the range to shoot $40 worth of ammo more than 2x/month. :-(
