I'd like to book a snowmobiling trip somewhere in that general area but I was wondering when would be the best time. Late fall/early winter or dead in the middle of winter? At what time are the trails at their best?

Also, anyone know of any good snowmobiling outfits in any of the aforementioned areas?

Thanks

what kind of riding do you want big mountains advanced riding= cooke city mt, nice trails with a few small hills simple riding balck hills sd and sheridian wy has the bighorns which are not as crazy as cooke but more advanced than the black hills.

I think just about every where in the state is set up for snowmachines right now (snow wise).

I live in the Wyoming section of the Black Hills. Pretty dern good snow machine conditions in this area.

The Bighorns are looking pretty good out my window right now. Heck, I could snow machine in my yard!

You might give Bear Lodge Resort at Burgess Junction a call. They cater to snow machiners and there is some awesome 'mobiling all around... they sit at 8300 feet elevation and the area has many miles of really well groomed trails that allow you to get to the powder.

Thanks for the replies.

-Kurt, Nothing too crazy, I'd just like to enjoy some decent trails and take in the scenery at the same time. I'm pretty new to snow sleds.

Take a look at Lolo Pass. It's on HWY 12 on the MT/ID border. Lots of groomed trails and some off trail riding. Thre is Lolo Hot Springs on the MT side and the Lochsa Lodge on the ID side. The hot springs rents out snow machines, but the food at the Lochsa is better.

the black hills are your ticket than. more groomed trails than anywhere and all have maps on them almost imposible to get lost there. I rode there alot and never got lost that is saying some thing. No avalanches there or any of the dangers that the big mountains will bring, some great scenery and sleds can be rented at a bunch of places. If you do go take a night ride up to cement ridge some beatiful scenery.
