Just spoke to a friend back In South Africa and he says the police just shut down two airsoft dealers and sent all their guns off for "ballistic testing". Also shut down a trap and skeet range, because they decided the permit that the range had that allowed people who didn't have a gun license (yes, even for shotguns) to shoot there, was no longer any good. Its okay though for the police to beat an unarmed protestor to death in full view of tv cameras and for the some 30 000 murders and thousands upon thousand of rapes to happen every year, but heaven forbid you want to own a gun. Many folk there have been waiting for more than 2 years to get their permits.

Makes me appreciate how critical the 2nd Amendment fight is here.

Re: You think gun rights are in trouble here.

Its always interesting to see places where the restrictions are high, and the crime is atrocious.

But I wont ever worry about gun rights being taken. I cannot think of any administration that would even attempt it. They've only chipped at the edges, hoping to change it without doing it outright.

Either way, when that time comes, the tree of liberty will be refreshed.

It's always just that... Talk!!!

There would be a 2nd civil war if they (the gov't) actually tried taking away our firearms!

I disagree. What the 2nd stands for is clear on its face but the govm't has been stripping you of your 2nd amendment rights for years. You just didn't realize it as it was done incrementally by attaching countless conditions to the 2nd. By the time we as a nation figure out our rights are gone we won't have the means to fight it....

Re: You think gun rights are in trouble here.

We have never had an administration that is as anti-2A as the current one. Until recently, we didn't hear much, it has been suspiciously quiet. Not sure if they are waiting on a disaster that hasn't gone to waste yet, or some bombshell to drop.

I don't believe they will usurp the 2A directly, Congressional support is not there, so they will most likely backdoor it through a series of regulatory changes that makes it a hassle to own anything.

As if it isn't getting that way already.

Haven't seen anything about the word "sporting" in the Constitution...

I agree with everything you said I just wanted to make a point about what you said above. The flow of power goes the opposite way from what you're eluding to. The word 'sporting' doesn't need to be in the 2nd as those are reserved powers by the people not the govm't. If the govm't tried to attach a special meaning to the 2nd i.e. only allowing for 'sporting' that would be unconstitutional. However, there are already many special conditions attached to the 2nd such as the Brady Bill, CCW permits, etc. all of which are unconstitutional on the 2nds face.. So my point is really just an academic exercise as we have already lost the true meaning of the 2nd via incremental policies but I blame this loss on our collective inability to understand how the constitution works.

Re: You think gun rights are in trouble here.

Like them or hate them NRA @ 4,000,000 members
Gun Owners @90,000,000 persons
Are 86,000,000 just talking ??
(These numbers may not be exact)

Well to be fair and play devils advocate they did have the Arizona shooting not too long ago and I didn't see this admin do anything to take advantage of that... I really don't think guns are an issue with this admin. I could be wrong but I haven't seen any real moves that prove otherwise...
