Fave is Paul Gilbert. Dude can play anything and has a great snse of melody. Close second is a cat named Andy Wood of Down From Up. He can do anything from metal to smokin chicken picken.

My No1 Son is my favorite guitarist because he plays both bass or guitar, sings, and has the love of punk rock to keep the spirit of the music alive. His skills are as good and even better than any garage punk, and he has been on stages from Buffalo to NYC opening for bigger bands(The Casualties, The 99's/Divotchka's, Plastic Jesus). Seeing him play, and knowing that the love of music is not only transmitted via what we listened to, but geneticly as well, because he just plain fucking kicks ass on stage to the tune of standing ovations in small venues just like his old man did back in the day

I play guitar for a living and normally when I read through these type of threads I find the lists insulting, but on this forum there are some pretty educated as well as eclectic choices. Well done guys. And although he is not my absolute fav, the guitar player I would want to meet the most, if given the chance, would be be Eddie Van Halen. Ted Nugent would be second on the 'want to hang with' list, but probably more for the fact that he likes to hunt and shoot.

I have a hard time picking one favorite because there are so many great guitarist. The only one listed here so far that i dont really like is santana. He is definately good but his sound to me is to similar from song to song. I dont really like eddie vanhalen either.
