Hey folks, just looking for ideas and thoughts. Right now, in competitions, I'm running a custom AR-15 I built. Aero lower and upper, a5 buffer tube, springco green spring, and a5 buffer, a Silencerco Velos 556k can (upgraded from my 36m which has since been repurposed), and a bunch of other random crap that doesn't matter to my question. Right now I'm running, yes, I'll admit it, a BA Hanson Profile 13.9 with a mid-length gas system. While I can get roughly 1.5 MOA out of this, I generally get closer to 2.5 MOA with the crappy 55gr ammo I shoot for 2gun competitions (which is plenty fine).

Well, my barrel is starting to get a bit long in the tooth with roughly 12k rounds through it, and I'm going to need to replace it soon, and I'm trying to figure out where I want to go with this.

On the one hand, barrels are disposable, and the BA Hanson has served me just fine. At the same time, with the groups just beginning to open up (no keyholing yet, thankfully), I'm tempted to get something that might last a bit longer before failing.

So in short, I want the "perfect" barrel. Last forever, sub-moa, dirt cheap. Recognizing the impossibility of this, however, I'll compromise on something with similar (or better) accuracy than the BA Hanson. I'd like, in a unicorn filled world, to have something chrome-moly which will last longer, even CHF, but which isn't more than a hundred, or maybe two hundred, more than the BA Hanson. I really like the 13.9 length for me, and I do like the BA Hanson profile (not too tip heavy). Light barrels are flat out not appropriate for my use case, so medium to medium heavy is where I'm leaning (particularly because I run a can), and definitely want a mid-length gas system, not a carbine length.

Sorry for vomiting out this wall of text, but I figured context might help. It is both my competition rifle, and my "go to" GPR (not that I'll ever likely use it IRL outside of some creepy dreams I've occasionally had involving EMPs, zombies and leprechauns).

I reached out to the new Owners of White Oak who purchased WOA from John and moved everything out to Nevada.

I had a nice long conversation with Mary, her and her husband are the new Owners. She told me they hired a AMU retired gunsmith to run the machines and their goal was to keep the quality high and the wait times down. But like everyone else they are struggling with blank makers wait times.

I got it all out together and took it out for the first time today to zero and adjust gas and get some rounds down it.

I have a few ammo cans full of different handloads I used today.

All shooting was done from the bench with Atlas bipod and rear bag from the bench at 100yds today.


I shot 5rds of 55 FMJ-BT H380 handloads to get a rough zero at 100yds.


I then shot a bunch of 5 shot groups with various handloads to see how she shoots and get some rounds down it.


I would say this barrel is going to be a shooter. Shot really good with 60 TMK's and 55 VMAX's..

I then shot some 77smk and 77 tmk pulls from American Reloading all over 26.4gr PP2000MR all run on my dedicated 5.56 automated Dillon 1050.

While this load has ES/SD's on the higher side, it was shooting some good groups.

Looking forward to starting some load development now.

This started life as an off the shelf 308, I had the action blueprinted and trued and a Schneider Sendero barrel spun up for it. It bedded in a Manners T4 stock, has a Nightforce 20 MOA rail on top, oversized lug, Badger bottom metal in mini chassis, the bolt work done by LRI and comes with a Timney Calvin Elite trigger. Muzzle is threaded but will not include a muzzle device since I am using my suppressor adapter. I am gonna guess it has less than 200 rounds on it, I know it liked 185s and 175s, gun was a solid shooter. It weighs 10.3 lbs on kitchen scales. I could probably come up with the Redding competition dies and seater if someone was interested in that as well. Asking $OLD shipped to your FFL.

Before I unintentionally ruin the standard bead front sight on this rig I thought to ask whether anyone has tried to remove one. If so, how to go about it?

My purpose is to install a brighter front sight that would be more visible in dim light at night inside the house. Which leads me to asking for any recommendations of a front sight alternative that doesn't require drilling and tapping the barrel.

I realize it is a shotgun and would be used at close range, still would prefer to improve my aiming point.
