PRS Talk 6.5 Creedmoor Factory Ammo for PRS - Recommendations?

Hey all, I'm looking for some advice on factory offerings for 6.5 Creedmoor. I've shot 2 regional matches and 1 pro series match with Hornady 140 ELDMs, but ran into some dope issues that cost me some points. I should've adjusted but the moment got to me. Chrono'd the next stage and had SD near 20 and ES over 50. I shoot out West so I typically will see targets past 1000 yards in most matches.

Is there anything comparable at the same price point? Not able to get into reloading at this point. Looking at Norma 130 GT, Federal, etc.

26" 1:8 twist barrel.

Using the search for multiple phrases

Is there a way to search multiple phrases? I often search the PX for items and would be nice to search more than one thing so I can refine my list and pin the tab. I typically use the advanced search > Search Threads, then select Buy-Sell-Trade in the forums to search. But in the keyword section, is there a delimiter or something where I could search for multiple phrases?

An example is I often search for 156 Berger, 6.5 PRC, 75 ELD. Any way to do all three at once? I have tried a multitude of suggestions from the Google machine to no avail.

Rifle Scopes ATACR 7–35 Made in Japan vs. USA – Material difference, stripped set screw, mount issue, MK5HD comparison

Hi everyone,

I’ve been a long-time user of Nightforce optics and recently ran into some issues and observations I’d like feedback on.

1.
ATACR 7–35 “Made in Japan” vs. “Made in USA” – material differences

I previously used a US-made ATACR 5–25×, and recently switched to a Japan-marked ATACR 7–35×. During turret adjustment, the elevation dial’s set screw stripped.

Does anyone know if there is a difference in material or hardness for the elevation set screw or turret components between US- and Japan-marked ATACRs?

Also — not looking to get replacement parts — but does anyone know the specs or thread size of the elevation set screw?

2.
Nightforce mount thread issue — SPUHR alternative?

While using a Nightforce one-piece mount, I noticed the screw threads deformed slightly when removing the optic.

Has anyone experienced this? Would a SPUHR mount offer better thread strength or durability? I’m considering switching due to better machining tolerances.

3.
MK5HD vs ATACR 7–35 — real-world usability

I’ve used both the ATACR 7–35×56 and Leupold MK5HD 7–35×56.

While ATACR may have better optics, I find:
  • MK5HD’s ZeroLock system is easier and more field-friendly
  • ATACR’s zero stop requires small screws that are easy to lose
  • Turret resistance differs between ATACR units
What are your thoughts on the MK5HD 7–35× vs. ATACR 7–35× in real-world field use?

Which do you prefer based on turret feel, zeroing speed, and durability — not just glass?

Thanks in advance!

Firearms SOLD Raven's M40A5

This is my personal M40A5. This rifle is 100% correct to USMC Specs down to the Black Oxide finish. To the best of my knowledge this is a complete deployment kit minus the Pelican Case and ARD. I have all books, accessories, Mags etc. I also have an extra Schneider barrel complete, chambered and Surefire break installed, wear out the current barrel (if you can) unscrew the old barrel and torque this spare on. To finish this off, I have the correct Surefire Suppressor for probably what might be the last run of those. Receiver serial number is roll stamped not the newer engraved "G" prefix, and in the correct serial number range, G6541006. Some of the parts are original issue parts including trigger, but not the stock. Scope is a USMC spec scope, but is NOT USMC MARKED. I could type all day about this rifle, but if you know the M40A5 well enough you know what this rifle really is. Some of these items are rare and only become available from time to time. If you are a serious buyer way more information and pictures on request. I realize this rifle isn't for the average collector, and the price isn't cheap, but for what is being offered it's more than fair.

Rifle can ship to FFL, Suppressor must go to a Class 3
I will provide correct Pelican Case with cutouts for an addition feeView attachment 8722892

PRICE IS NON-NEGOTIABLE
$12,500.
DUE TO PRICE I AM WILLING TO BREAK INTO 4 MONTHLY PAYMENTS TO RIGHT BUYER.

Let’s talk trades because we all know you love them.

I have something specific I need to accomplish so I need at least $4000 cash but I’m willing to accept any of the following as partial trades + cash. I’m really specific so if it’s not on this list I wouldn’t bother asking.

Trades listed in order of interest:

-SR25 upper 16 inch or less. Really want a 6.5 upper in 16 or 14.5 but yeah yeah yeah I know. Whatever
-Noveske N6 12.5 inch 6.5CM. Any color is fine. Might consider same rifle/pistol in 308
- Nightforce 1-8 ATACR FDE preferred but black considered
-Proof Reseach hunting rifle. Glacier or MTR in anything but 308.
-Altus rifle with a proof barrel in 6 or 6.5
-barreled actions by Altus, LRI, Accurate Ordnance or Proof.
-TBAC Magnus S on form 3
-KAC 11.5 556 upper
-Noveske Gen 4 10.5 556 upper or complete rifle/pistol
-Noveske Ghetto Blaster in 300BO
-Q honey badger 300BO
-Sig Cross
-MK12 mod 0/1 upper
-Vortex Razor 1-10
-tactical lever gun? Maybe. Depends.
-6.5CM ammo (not very high on the list and wouldn’t trade at full retail when I can load better than factory and have fun doing it)
-5.56 ammo (77grn or M193) one can never have too much but probably not worth the shipping hassle?

Long range build advice

Hey all. I want to ask for some advice here. Let me give some background:

I own a few thousand acre ranch here in central TX. Have targets out to 1.5mile. I’m an FFL/SOT licensee. Avid shooter as a hobby. I have a ton of builds but usually find myself shooting a stock bergara 6.5CM or Christensen arms 6.5PRC. I consider myself a decent shooter. I put in the time to learn. Both guns shoot sub moa. Inside 1000k yards, either weapon is no problem to land shots on a 12x18 steal target. However, once I reach out to 1250 and beyond, it is much tougher to hit. Mile is almost impossible. I attribute that to my skill first, also my range sits W to E and ALWAYS get a good crosswind of 5-20mph. I don’t reload (yet) but the ammo I shoot usually prints single digit variance in FPS, plus I buy at wholesale so im good with it. I LIKE the recoil of the 6.5. Just makes it fun to shoot. I shoot daily.

I’m going down the rabbit hole of building a good PRS rifle and REALLY curious what caliber to build. Really this would be to reach out beyond 1000 yards and at the same time, not rip my face off shooting a ton of rounds. Most everything I shoot is suppressed. I’m prolly gonna go the MDT Elite Chassis. But again, I am stuck on caliber. I see all this 6mm-6GT etc BUT I assume im gonna struggle with wind still with that light of bullet, hence thinking more like a 300NM. But that I just my limited research so far. I follow this thread religiously and y’all tend to nail it……so I figure I would ask y’all!

Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thank you. Tim

Getting old and enjoying it.

My oldest son asked about rifle shooting at longer ranges over the 4th weekend while we all took a couple days off work. I have been away from shooting longer range for years now. My eye have a disorder and seeing 3 targets from 1 makes them hard to hit. I did buy a scope a while ago hoping to get back into it as eye contact technology is improving to help my sight. Still not great. I have not even gotten a good zero on the scope. Blew the dust off a few boxes of FGM 168 308 ammo, opened the safe, grabbed a few other things quick and set up on the flat bed. Had to ride side x side out and find the steel I have had set up. We walked in a few rounds at 735 yards and started hitting steel in the wind. It was a very relaxing. I forgot how much I enjoy it watching them call hits. Also asked about reloading. That is another rabbit hole to enjoy. We can work on that later I told him at 9pm when we quit. I am thinking I will open the safe for them and hope they catch the bug.

Better glass than XTR pro around 2k used???

Waiting on a new 22 build that should be here next month so in the market for a scope. Currently running 2 Burris XTR3 and 3 XTR pros on my match rifles. I love the 1/4 mil reticles and pretty much everything about the scopes and they have been rock solid for me over the years.

Over the last 2 years age has started to catch up with me and my eyes are starting to go down hill. So my question to the group, are there any optics I can grab on the used market for around $2k that will be a decent step up in glass resolution and ability to cut the mirage?

I have looked through a few ZCO and they are a fairly large step up but I’m not willing to pay the price.

Mark 5’s I have looked through are not as good of glass as the pros I use to me.

Scopes I’m aware of that “might” be an improvement are rzr gen3, Theos, Zeiss S3??? I have not been able to look through any of those to compare so would like feedback there.

Also really like that the Burris has a pretty forgiving paralax setting, can usually set it and forget it for most stages and would like what ever I buy to be similar.

Open to other ideas as well unless it’s people jumping in to say stop being poor and buy a ZCO.

If you're in the market for a Colt Revolver...

Nothing to gain personally but just sharing with the Hide. Colt is running a $100 rebate on most of their revolver line from 01 JUL to 31 AUG (details at the link above).

I get it- after you get over $1K, a $100 rebate doesn't seem to hold as much merit but the "part II" of this post is I've noticed a number of online sites are "sweetening" the deal with another discount on their usual price.

For my "Part III" - I personally took advantage of this deal by purchasing a Colt Kodiak 44 MAG from Sportsman's Warehouse of all places. I don't typically (aka seldom if ever) purchase from big box stores but SW had the Kodiak on sale, allowed me to stack an additional military discount, and on top of that I still have the $100 rebate. So (and we all have varying opinions of value for sure) I think I'm getting a bargain with this deal.

Hide victors of the yard... looking for some suggestions here...

I'm looking for some suggestions in getting my yard up to snuff. As a backstory- the house was built in 2023 so the grass for the lawn was put down that fall.

Presently I'm mostly covered but still "patchy" in some areas where I go down to bare soil & grass (can post pictures if needed).

In the past year I've placed at least four bags of "weed & feed" down (2 bags each time)...

1751803574010.png

Back in April I also "over seeded" and put down something like 60lbs of grass seed. Something like this- specific to the region I'm living in.

1751803748492.png

Yet I'm not having much luck filling in these patches this year and I'm at my wits end. I put down more grass seed than reasonable and no sooner that I do it the next week the birds are having an orgy in my yard eating it all up.

One thing I haven't done (due to expense & logistics) is to commit to aerating the lawn prior to over seeding.

So moving into Autumn- my question to the Hide is (1) is this battle 'normal' for a 'new' lawn? (2) am I better off just throwing in the proverbial towel and hiring a company like Tru-Green to essentially do what I've been doing but with a business "guarantee"?

Anyone else gone through this frustration? I'd love a perfect/lush lawn (don't get me wrong) but it isn't vanity I'm chasing after as much as it takes me 3 hours to mow the yard with a push mower and it's absolute "hell on wheels" pushing the mower through the dirt patches & against the natural inclines of the yard. One section of the yard I'm all but ready to throw in the towel and just plant a hedge of roses or some sort of crap before pushing the mower against that incline gives me a literal heart attack.

-LD

Elon Musk announces the "American Party"

I'm strangely ok with this....

The American two party system is in dire need of a disruption as I see it and I'm looking forward to seeing what Elon, our closets to a real-life Bond villain, can bring to the table.

Too early to tell whether I'm behind their platform but I'm comfortable in getting behind their disruption if nothing else.

Let's shake things up!
