Rifle Scopes March PRS edition 5-42

I am by no means a high level shooter. I’ve been in the game right at a year and still have a lot to learn and a lot more impacts to get.

Just like any PRS shooter I’m always looking to move on and upgrade gear.

I started with a MK5 and quickly moved to NF and shot with that majority of my first year with that I always took the opportunity to look at other high end scopes when I got a chance to see what I liked. I was never overly impressed with what a saw from some of the high end offerings especially with the price tag involved.

Ironically I bought a March PRS edition WBR reticle on blind faith after some trusted friends who all shoot “ultra premium” optics looked through one at a match I was unable to attend and all gave it the green light saying it was pretty solid at a quick glance.

I have had my hands on one for a couple weeks now and have run it at 2 matches so far with more coming. I have to say I’ve really been thoroughly impressed at the capabilities of the scope. The image is in my opinion one of if not the best out there! The glass cuts mirage phenomenally well.

The wide angle glass make it easy to run higher power than normal (20+ compared to 15) and still have good target acquisition. I compared it to another newer wide angle scope and in my opinion there wasn’t much comparison to be had.

The turrets don’t suffer from having too tight of clicks from being 15 mil or spongy tactile feedback. Being writeable from the factory is also a very nice quality of life bonus!

The reticle I absolutely love as well. I ran MIL C with the NF and enjoyed that one. The WBR reticle seems to be an improvement in every way you could hope for being very thin but still readable and useable in situations where time is short. Leaving a lot of glass real estate for spotting and watching impacts. The half mil marks are a very nice addition as well as the 1 mil hold under

All in all I feel that this is an excellent scope this is definitely a top level contender in the competition world just from what I have been able to observe. It excels in areas other scopes struggle for sure and for a good price. I definitely wouldn’t knock one until I’ve tried it. I know more and more of these are showing up in the wild go see what you’re missing out on and check one out!

223 Powder Issues

I have a Tikka 595 in 223 Remington, my current barrel is a 1:12 Hart using 52-53 grain flat base Berger or Sierra bullets.

I shoot a club match each week requiring 50 rounds, generally I would use RE-15 or N203B and get excellent accuracy.

To speed things up in the loading area, I tried a couple ball powders that I could dump load with a Harrell’s powder measure, W748 and H335. They both meter fine, but my SD’s and ES’s are huge, SD’s 30+ and ES 115+. Accuracy is just aok, but inconsistent. Sometimes I can clean a target, other times it looks like a gathering not a group. I’ve been through different bullets, seating depth changes, primers, powder weight changes and nothing seems to work. I should say I need better than 1/2 MOA in this game, if woodchucks were the quarry, these loads would be fine.

Before I go back to stick powders, are there any Ball powders or one that meters easily that rival accuracy of stick powders?

Thanks for any insight.

PRS Talk Having to shoot off approx a 40deg post…. Suggestions other than sticky bag…

Curious how some are handling something like this. It’s a 4x4 literally duct taped to a cattle gate leaning from the right edge of the top of the cattle gate. Sticky bag wasn’t great for a righty, curious how some of you may handle this. It’s bouncy and would love to run rear tripod but the bag and rifle are sliding down without input….

Accessories MK13 Swap Thread

Decided to give this a shot…

I’m starting this thread for members to better match up their issued MK13 parts (stocks, rails, optics, etc). Most of these were DRMO’d or sourced separately. I’d recommend sharing what you’re willing to swap, rather than what you want, for obvious reasons.

Up first is a MIRS that doesn’t really match any of my stocks well. It’s a tan base with reddish brown and OD netting + foliage. This is only for trade, not for sale. I’d also consider swapping stocks that are a close match / have a few to offer up in return. Feel free to PM me if you have anything to consider, or post here to offer up to others.

Euro Optic shipping procedures SUUUUCK!

So, I know Euro Optic is a decent company, but the way they do their shipping now basically removes me from being able to buy from them ever again unless I am buying something under $500.

Here’s the facts. I bought a Leupold Freedom 4-12x40 30mm side focus CDS tri-moa, scope and a couple other things that totaled over $500. The scope was a blemish for a good price, so I thought I would give it a try and see if it would track well enough out to 600 yards for hunting since it’s quite a bit lighter than the VX-5’s. Well, at that price, they ship UPS and require an adult signature. If you check the box to not have an adult signature, they their policy is basically no fault to them if UPS never delivers the package and loses it, you’re just out the money. There’s no one that can sign for this until next Tuesday, but I’m was thinking with UPS My Choice, I can have it held at a pick up location and grab it when I get home. NOPE! Not an option. I called UPS and they can’t even change it. It can’t be held, it can’t be rerouted to a friend, it can’t be delayed one day, they will only try to deliver three times then ship it back, no other options. Even if I was going to be home to sign for it, who has time to sit on the porch with a 6 pack waiting on a brown truck? I sure don’t. I called Euro Optic and they can’t even change it. Their contract with UPS sucks; they need to use FedEx as primary instead as I could have routed it to a FedEx store. Apparently UPS won’t route to UPS stores. Euro told me UPS closed all their pick up locations which leads me to the though, why am I paying UPS for My Choice if there are no choices offered?? That’s the next call.

Oh well, UPS will try delivering Thursday, Friday, and Monday, then ship it back. It’s probably the scope gods looking over me and telling me the Freedom with CDS won’t track and I should go be poor somewhere else and go to the gym more to carry the 5 extra oz of the VX-5. Euro told me they could reship it with no signature required for an additional charge. I said, no thanks, I’ll take a refund. No signature required means UPS can loose it and I’m out the money; no thanks; I also don’t think in that situation Euro should shoulder the loss either; if UPS loses it, UPS should shoulder the loss. Once UPS picks up the package from Euro, Euro’s liability with it should end.

Despite the fact Euro has a good reputation, their shipping policy with UPS is so problematic, when there is no one around the house during the day, that I can’t do business with them. If you choose to order from them, do so with the knowledge that they will only ship to the address on the credit card, they will required a signature, and there’s no way to redirect to a friend, business, UPS pick up location, nor UPS store. So if you, like me, travel for work, or don’t have time to sit out front with a 6 pack, you may want to order from somewhere else that offers better flexibility.

Rant over. I keep telling myself that scope is junk even at blemished prices and it would have only caused me trouble.

*** Ok, before you jump to conclusions, as a few have done, which may not be those I’m trying to communicate, skip to post #63 for the summary. ***
