Well, I suppose it was inevitable. After 30 years, my boonie cap I was issued in 1995 when my unit was heading to Fort Sherman in Panama for jungle training, is getting close to being retired.

It has served me well as my fishing hat for the last several years. I'm actually surprised it has lasted this long.

I'll never get rid of it, but it may be time to pin it to the wall of my reloading room as a memory of good times had.

I don't shoot comps so I don't think I want a stiff ass over/under USPSA style belt set up but I think I do want to try some kind of over/under belt set up rather than the padded molle style I have. Or do I?

I would just like something rigid and comfortable with less bulk to mount a pistol and a few mag pouches on for range use. No larping or SHTF in mind.

I had a plan. It was to spend *all day* at the range. That turned into having to work a little, but got there for 10:45. Plenty of time. Getting all this stuff out, targets set up, etc was 45 minutes. Then I got a call from work that we got in a rush order that I had to deal with at 3PM. Cue beating head against concrete.

I was able to get the bare minimum I wanted to accomplished, which was to check out the 13.9" skinny and 14.5" .750 fluted guns, verify function, and swap my NOX over from a 12.5" to the Battle Arms build.

I don't think I was shooting my best today. I got some 1" groups, but I had more called flyers than typical. I plan to get back out there sooner than later with my sons and some more time, and hopefully we can identify the practical accuracy potential for the Craddock barrels when sampling some different ammo. For today's abbreviated trip, I was satisfied.

All guns were 6.5 Grendels barreled by Craddock - two .750 18's, two .750 14.5's, and two .625" 13.9's.

My plan was to use my 20X reference scope on all rifles, and then to see what ammo preference they had, and best possible 5 shot groups.

What actually happened was I verified function on the 14.5" - the 18's and 13.9s had both been shot a little prior too.

A long long long long time ago, before the wind, before the snow - Battle Arms Development gave me a store credit due to a couple things having some QC issues. I documented them, and the CEO of the company ultimately got involved and gave me the credit. I used it for a BAD matched ultralight receiver set and their proprietary charging handle, the RACK if I recall.

As seen, the dry Battle Arms build is 5 lb 6 oz. I think I could hit 5 lbs even but I used a JP Silent captured spring (2 oz heavier) , the 14.5" .750 fluted bbl vs .625 13.9" (~3.5 oz heavier}, USGI charging handle would be lighter, and a full mass BCG. I wanted the gun to be light but not at the cost of strength/functionally. I don't feel like there are any short cuts that compromise utility. With an optic, can, heavy but effective mirage cover and loaded she is 8.5 lbs. If I recall, the weight savings using the BAD receiver set is 6-7 oz and the Smoke Composites across the three components is another 6-7 oz.

The gun ran 100% and I think all accuracy was indian, not arrow. Will get back out there to figure that out asap.

So I ordered a Burris XTR pro on ebay knowing it was likley a scam. Buy it now 642 dollars, let's take a swing. I see the seller joind just a couple days prior. After I purchase I see the sellers name is Jonaten from Broomfeild CO. At 2 am after purchase a shipping label is is made that goes active.

Here is where the plot thickens. After ebay mandatory 5 day wait I request refund for the item that hasn't shipped. The scammer pulls a switcheroo and changes the tracking to number to one that shows delivered in mailbox lamar colorado. and says delivered see.

Now what the shit. I know for a fact the only thing delivered to my house Wednesday was a single peice of junk mail. And an xtr pro fitting in my mailbox.

So I am off to usps and who knows where I live already when I show up. They get me detailed tracking for the new 1 2 switcheroo tracking number. A 7oz package with 4.35 postage was delivered to a diffrent address in town.

I'm thinking I want a new toy, something to play with during non-winter months. Purchase budget is $25k. Whatever the toy is, it should be an "outdoor" toy. I have/had motorcycles and it was like a default for "I don't want to be inside, what can I do outside?" However, I now need to replace motorcycles with something else.

For several years I've been saying "boat", as in a deep-V fishing boat, 17' to 20'. I used to kayak fish rather aggressively, probably 30 hours a week during the pandemic, so I do enjoy being on the water, and of course, fishing. Due to life happening, I'm not really able to kayak fish any longer, and subsequently haven't been fishing (shore fishing is lame). I'm looking at used Lund, Alumacraft, Crestliner and have several good options.

I've always liked cars, and have had a couple "fun" cars along the way; Porsche 944, MkV GTi with some light mods. But now only drive a soccer-mom grocery hauler. A couple of my friends are into cars, one is buying an M3 Competition and another has been poking me for years to buy a fun car. I found a 1993 Porsche 968 Club Sport for sale which would be cool, or I've thought about a BMW Z M-roadster and supercharging it. Or something along those lines, there's worlds of options.

I'm honestly to tired to make this a long thread, but holy hell what does Aero do to their stock barrels? Do they weld them in?

- I tried it normal. The barrel slipped and ruined my finish
- I tried wrapping painters tape around the barrel. The barrel rotated and ripped up the tape and now the barrel needs goo gone.
- I tried heat, lots of heat. Eventually I burned my finger but the barrel still slipped in the vise.
- I tried wrapping the barrel in sand paper. I went out and got actual fucking sand to put between the barrel and the barrel vise.

Thankfully there is a machine shop downstairs from my friends shop. Now it was their turn.

- They tried a barrel vise block in a massive vise. It still slipped.
- They tried putting the vise block 90 degrees (vertical) in the largest vise i've ever seen with a 26'' breaker bar. It still slipped.

Enter the machine shop guys wife

Question: How much do you care about the stock barrel? Answer: I'd like it to shoot, but it already looks like hell I can't sell it.

- She takes it over to a belt sander, and I shit you not, sands two flat spots in the barrel.
- The barrel goes back in the giant vise block, this time raw, at 90 degrees, with the 26'' breaker bar.

IT FINALLY FUCKING GIVES WAY!!!!!



In the end the stock barrel looked like this.

Putting the new barrel in was shockingly easy. Swab some antiseize, put barrel in barrel vise, hand tighten action, use action wrench + torque wrench set at 75 ft/lbs, add chassis and optic and poof!




But my dark lady looked ready for the range tomorrow.

I’ve stumped one customer service rep today, so I figured I’d dip my toes in this board and try as well. Thanks in advance if you’re able to follow me.

I’ve got a Remington 700 in .300 wm from right before their bankruptcy in 2013/14. The gun has frankly been a pain in the rear since it came into the family, but so have I, and I’m still around. It’s a cheapo SPS that came with a weird oem box magazine. In its original iteration, the gun shot well, but it kicked so hard my dad handed it off to me. In turn, I put it in the closet.

Recently, I switched a hogue over molded stock onto the rifle in an attempt to get some use out of it. It’s not the most popular stock, but it’s does make the gun significantly more shoot able. It’s also the only stock that will accept this magazine. However, at Hogue’s recommended torque I am getting significant signs of overpressure. I backed the action screws out as much as I was comfortable with, and the worst signs (stiff bolt, difficult extraction) have slacked off. I am still getting signs of overpressure around the primer strike. This puzzled the hogue rep.

The most glaring problem this new stock has is that it ejects the magazine after each shot. It took quite a bit of sanding and shaving the stock to get the magazine to even seat initially, but I am planning on taking a dremmel to the area around the magazine until I’ve got zero possibility of the stock itself releasing the magazine. It well could be that this is simply a failure of design - a new bottom metal wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world. I am wondering if this could be caused by overpressure, however.
