Accessories MDT ACC FDE

Want to trade my ACC for an M40a5 or something similar.

Never been in the field. Mounted my barreled action in it and just don’t like it as much as I thought I would.

Would like to make an even trade. Can provide more pictures upon request.

Night Vision Helmet mounted vs hand held thermal for coyote?

I have some coyotes in my land and they need to go. I’ve never hunted coyotes at night before and am wondering if I should go with a helmet mounted or handheld thermal scanner. I would imagine helmet mounted is more convenient but handheld is far cheaper. However, I do believe in buy once cry once.

Edit: I’m in West Virginia and the terrain is mostly mountainous forest but I have a couple of good sized fields I would hunt that are about 300 yards long.

Experienced night hunters, which do you prefer and why?

POI change from bipod to barricade

I have an AR I built using Seekins upper receiver and triangle handguard that bolts to the upper not the barrel nut. 24” lilja 223 barrel. Shooting prone off a bipod it’s sighted in. Then when I transition to shooting off barricades using a bag I’m hitting .4-.5 mils low at 100 yards. I tested moving the bipod back to where the rifle rests on the bag and it was shooting around .3 mils low from prone.

This was very repeatable between myself and another accomplished shooter so I don’t think it’s shooter error. We played with pressure and free recoil with no improvement. We were shooting bolt guns as well and did not experience this shift.

Double checked I don’t see anything loose and the barrel, gas tube, gas block are not contacting the handguard. Accuracy was excellent in all positions.

Anyone have some advice, tips, tricks ect.

Train depot explosion in north Idaho

Felt the explosion as did everyone in a 10 mile radius, but rumor mill saying an explosion at the train depot left at least one dead and other cars on fire. My tinfoil hat is screwed on tight, but I’m hoping this isn’t related to the railroad strike stuff/sabotage etc… early reports said earthquake, then possibly the explosion set off the sensors.

Spec my guns: How would you build a dream AR-15

In 2023, I intend to build 4 AR-15s, and I would like a little help planning out the parts I'm going to have to buy, as well as the strategy for each gun. Three of the rifles will be in 556, including one that will be a Recce/SPR, and one that will be an SBR, while the fourth will be in 6mm. I've thought about 6.5 Grendel but I think 6mm Arc has everything that I'd want anyways. So two SPR/Recce rifles (one in 556, one in 6mm arc), an SBR, and a regular general-purpose do-it-all rifle.

I'm really new to guns so I don't fully know what I'm doing, so forgive me if these Frankenstein builds look jarring, gaudy, or cringe; I'm learning as I go along. I'm open to suggestions, parts lists, advice, recommendations, and inspiration for how I should approach or strategize a build. I'm just offering what I'm thinking will go into my own builds, feel free to offer your own builds so I can study them and possibly incorporate them into my own planning.

Fought a blender

And the blender blades won.

Went to rummage in my tools to find something, and somehow the blades to the wife’s Ninja blender fell into the tool box. (Looking back at the crime scene, it looks like the damn cat knocked the blender over on top of the garage fridge, which made the blades fall into the toolbox which is right next to it).

When I went to stick my paw in, I felt a weird sensation then red everywhere.

Damn blade went damn near all the way through my thumb, and I barely felt it. After 10 minutes of it bleeding through numerous towels, we ran up to the nearest urgent care, who then referred me to a different urgent care.

There I had to get XRays to make sure I didn’t do damage to the nerves or whatnot, a tetanus shot, then stitches to close the over inch long laceration running through my thumb.

So yeah. Don’t get complacent and start rummaging around in your tool box without looking at what your doing.

Fouling shots?

I took two rifles out to the range today and I had deep cleaned both with Barnes CR-10. I cleaned them and bore scoped them until I could not find any copper fouling. A R700 with factory varmint barrel in .243 Win with about 1,000 rounds on it shooting 100 grain Privi Partisan (cheap plinking ammo) The other rifle is a stock Tikka Tac A1 308 Win shooting 160 grain Hammer Target hand loads, around 800 rounds on it.

Both rifles needed 6 rounds down the barrel until they started grouping, the first groups were 1.5"-2" and then both printed 4 shot groups just under .5" at 100 yds.
I do not deep clean very often but both barrels were copper fouled heavily. I use Hoppes #9 for routine cleaning and it usually takes just one fouler to get back to normal.

I was just curious what others see when shooting after a deep clean.

What's your experience with shooting a barrel back in after a deep clean?

What Is a good rifle for competition?

Im looking for a good competition rifle that can shoot up to 500 yards with factory ammo, sub MOA. I have a Savage model 110 FCP in 308 and it shoots great! But i have a 6mm BR that doesn't shoot that good and its hard to find ammo for that rifle. I was looking to get something chambered in 6.5 creed. What are your thoughts? And what rifles do you recommend that are under $1000? I Was looking into the bergara b14 hmr, but still undecided.

Why doesn't the US get rid of guns?

I ran across an excellent article comparing what is happening in Canada to the US. I think it's well written and well worth the read.

Homemade ‘Smith And Methson’ Firearm Unlikely To Catch On With Wyoming Crooks

The likelihood is vanishingly small that any Wyoming crime victim would find themselves staring down the twin barrels of a “Smith & Methson,” says a Wyoming a gunsmith and former law enforcement officer.

“It looks like it’s probably a hand grenade waiting to happen,” Brian Dimoff, owner of Gold Spur Outfitters LLC in Laramie, told Cowboy State Daily.

He was referencing photos of a sketchy homemade firearm seized by police and dubbed a “Smith & Methson” model, which has become somewhat of an Internet laughingstock and social media meme among firearms enthusiasts.

The weapon’s design reflects some ingenuity, Dimoff said, but crooks in Wyoming and elsewhere have far easier ways of getting firearms than trying to build their own.

Sketchy Weapon’s History

Photos have been circulating online depicting a weapon that could perhaps best be described as a poorly conceived steampunk nightmare.

The gun is real.

It was seized earlier this year from a suspected meth dealer in Iowa, according to reports from the Meskwaki Nation Police Department. The suspect had a prior felony conviction and was therefore prohibited from owning firearms.

That didn’t stop him from building his own from scratch, according to reports, and officers in Iowa dubbed it the “Smith & Methson.”

That’s a play on Smith & Wesson, a firearms manufacturer probably best known for its revolvers, the most iconic of which could be the Model 29 .44 magnum. That was the weapon of choice for Clint Eastwood’s surly, cynical and quick-on-the trigger character in the “Dirty Harry” movie series.

Not User-Friendly

But firing the “Smith & Methson” probably wouldn’t have made its shooter’s day, Dimoff said.

“What he created would have been a gas jet pointing back toward himself,” he said.

That’s because the breech is completely open. There’s no fully enclosed firing chamber as there would be in a properly constructed firearm, he said. And without that, the explosive force of the pressure and gasses meant to propel projectiles down a firearm’s barrel could just as easily launch backward and outward, instead of forward.

The weapon appears to chamber 410 bore shotgun shells. That the smallest commercial shotgun ammunition, but it can still pack a wallop.

And in some firearms, the 410 bore is interchangeable with .45 Colt cartridges – such as in the “Judge” revolver made by Taurus.

However, the metal in the “Smith & Methson” looks too flimsy to handle a 410 bore discharge, much less the far higher pressures of a .45 Colt round, Dimoff said.

“The cops did him a favor when they took that from him,” he said. “He would have ended up seriously injuring or even killing himself with it.”
