Bolt action question(which should I pick up)

I’m looking for something that you can change calibers on. I read somewhere here that you can do that with a bolt change of some sort. I would also like to be able to change barrels if I ever needed to without sending it to someone else but it to be done easily and accurately. I also would prefer rem 700 footprint so of course there are options upon options for stocks, triggers etc. What action should I look at? I want accuracy, great accuracy. Caliber is not decided at this point. I have a MPA BA 6.5 that shoots great and I do like it. But I can’t change anything as it has a first gen Curtis axium.

He's back!!!

Darwin. I just wonder who will pay for the damage to the home?

Sudden 70fps drop in muzzle velocity after 150 rounds?

Tl;dr. My muzzle velocity went from ~2820 for first 150 rounds to ~2750 for next 30 rounds. Same charge 41.6gr H4350. Was it the weather, me cleaning barrel, or natural?

******************

I'm about to call it quits with reloading, sell this rifle, and move to Norway 🤷🏽‍♂️. Just really don't know what I'm doing...

I have an Accuracy International AX 2015 in 6.5cm with brand new 26 inch factory AI barrel. I. Reloading with H4350 and Berger 140gr Hybrids. I really just dont know what Im doing....read on

For the first 30 rounds, I shot some left over factory ammo I had on hand. I wasnt really caring then about accuracy or velocities. Just plinking for fun >>> Hornady 140gr ELDM. Velocity was consistently ~2830fps. Density Altitude 1,000 and temp 65F

For the next 30 rounds, I did a velocity ladder test of shooting three strings of 9 rounds from 40.9 to 42.3gr. which included three cold bore + sighting. Looked to be a "node" in the 41.5-41.7 and maybe again in 42.1-42.3. Density altitude 731ft and temp 59F.
16417798390126536897077938084364.jpg

For the next 60 rounds, I settled on 41.6gr H4350 and did seating tests with Berger 140gr Hybrids ranging from 20-85 thou off. Below is a target from one seasion...Velocity was consistently in the 2830 fps range. 350 Density altitude and temp 60F

16417803056721282452079505181081.jpg

....FINALLY...at 150 rounds down...I have the crazy idea to clean the barrel. This included 4-5 wet patch passes down (assume I did all proper bore guide, etc) until no more black and enough passes to dry it out. This is actually the first time ive cleaned a bolt gun barrel because usually I just am told to leave it....for whatever reason...I didnt.

Today I went back for another 30 rounds of seating test from 60-85 thou off. I upgraded to a Fx-120i and wanted to see if my velocities were more consistent having spent $800 for to upgrade from my $150 frankford arsenal scale.
For whatever reason, the velocities fell from consistently being in the 2820-2830 fps range with 41.6gr H4350 in my 26in Bartlein to an average of 2760fps. Density Altitude was negative 300 feet and Temp was 48F. Lower and colder than I've ever shot before.
This wasnt just thre first 3-5 rounds after cleaning or cold bore. This was over 30+ rounds.

Questions

1) Is it typical for a barrel velocity to slow after a barrel cleaning? If so, how do I avoid and will I get that velocity back?

2) Did that density altitude and temp have any impact on muzzle velocity? I can see how it would impact DOPE and ballistics at distance, but velocity at the muzzle I'm not sure how it can impact that.

3) I hear a bunch about barrel "stabilizing", But I've not seen it before to know how many rounds down the barrel it takes. With 3 barrels in my life, each has been stable from round 1 to round 250ish. Never seen a move up or down without a dramatic increase in temp (i.e. shooting in 88F vs. 62F). Is that really a thing...and is it more common for barrels to speed up or slow over time? Mine slowed from one session to anothet instantly...wasnt even gradual which is why Im curious if cleaning it or the weather was the culprit.

4) At what point does it make sense to even start load development? Assuming this "break in" barrel and "stabilizing" is real, do I seriously need to waste $300-400 of components just to get to a point where I can spend another $150 to do load development? Is that really what the advanced reloaders among us do? If so, I need to quit now.

SCOTUS Ruling......

So what do the miscreants of the hide think is going to happen?

My company is already going hard with the mandates and are talking about doing them privately no matter what. So after over 7 years of employment and being treated like garbage along the way this happens. Have been looking for something else, but many are the same way, with less pay.

Really wish there were more companies that were giving these "mandates" the finger. With a wife and two kids I am stuck between a rock and a rock. Need to bite my tongue and get a new job asap.

What are you guys seeing and doing?

SOLD Accuracy International AX

I am selling my Accuracy International AX .308. It has a 20" .308 Win barrel and comes with all the rail accessories (20 MOA top rail, long pic rail, 2 shorter pic rails, and Harris adapter rail). This version has a small firing pin and the color is "elite sand." Comes with a second magazine and the Accuracy International competition trigger (as well as the original trigger). I am the original owner (purchased from MHSA a few months ago).

Asking price is $7,000 (less if the buyer does not want the competition trigger).

I hate to see it go but I am overloaded on projects and need cash to fund them. Very low round count (24 rounds), so the barrel is not even broken in yet.

Krieger_Tactics: Long Range Precision Marksmanship - Part 2: INTRODUCTION TO HOLDING

Long Range Precision Marksmanship - Part 2

INTRODUCTION TO “HOLDING”

MY BACKGROUND

My call sign is Krieger. I am a former Special Forces Soldier (7th Special Forces Group, Ft. Bragg, NC), former security contractor , former instructor (Department of State), and current Unconventional Asset Recovery Agent.

I provide this information in the hope that it will provide a means for a marksman who is looking to improve his or her level of marksmanship and ability.

WRITTEN FOR
While advanced scopes and reticles exist, there are some personnel who still utilize the MIL dot system. This post has been written for this demographic of marksman.

POINTS OF INFORMATION
This post is written from a general assumption that anything not covered in-depth is understood by the reader. Over time I will be returning to this post and explaining many of the points that I don't cover in depth in the next two posts. If you have any questions, if there is something that I don't cover well, if I need to clarify a point or any point, please do not hesitate to reach out and ask for clarification on this thread, or DM me directly.

USE OF MIL DOTS
MIL dot reticles can be utilized to measure objects, estimate range, measure for corrections of round impacts, etc. For those who may not be familiar with the MIL dot reticle, there is one depicted in the first slide attached to this post.

FACTORS TO BE ACCOUNTED FOR IN LONG RANGE PRECISION MARKSMANSHIP
Before a marksman takes a long-range precision shot, there are several factors that need to be accounted for. For now, we’ll only address two of these factors: Windage and Elevation.

WINDAGE AND ELEVATION
-Windage is the calculated effect (left or right of the center of the target) that the marksman projects that the wind and various other factors will have on the fired round during flight.
-Elevation is the calculated deviation that the round will strike above or below the center of the target based on distance from the marksman to the target.

CALCULATING ADJUSTMENTS
The effects of windage and elevation will cause the strike of the round to deviate from center mass of the target. The marksman calculates the adjustments that need to be applied in order to bring the strike of the round back to center of the target.
There are multiple ways to make this adjustment/correction.
I will be discussing one of them; Holds for elevation.

HOLDS
Once the marksman has determined the distance to the target the marksman can utilize the Data On Previous Engagements (DOPE) that has been gathered and recorded in the marksman (sniper in military terms) log book in order to identify the MILs that must be “held” off of the center cross-hair in order to allow/bring the bullet onto the center of the target.

An example of this process is captured below in writing and in the visual aids attached to this post.
Based on a example .308 175-gr trajectory for the M118 (which I used many years ago) a marksman would apply the following MIL holds for a 100 yard zero (https://www.snipershide.com/.../specifications-for.../)

METERS: 100 MIL HOLD: 0.0 point of aim/point of impact
METERS: 200 MIL HOLD: 0.5 higher than center mass/ desired strike of the round
METERS: 300 MIL HOLD: 1.5 higher than center mass/ desired strike of the round
METERS: 400 MIL HOLD: 1.95 higher than center mass/ desired strike of the round
METERS: 500 MIL HOLD: 2.9 higher than center mass/ desired strike of the round

VISUAL EXAMPLES
Slides 2-6 provide a visual graphic of the "holds" as noted above. The center of each target is identified, as well as the location of the cross-hair as it is being held in order to demonstrate visually how each subsequent range necesitates a "higher" hold. These graphics provide you with the ability to note and understand the "holding" process described above.

To note, I created these graphics utilzing powerpoint and thus they are not 100% to scale, however I feel that they are close enough to accomplish the intent here - which is to provide the reader with the ability to visually identify the holding for elevation (range) process.

ALWAYS TRUE?
The provided calculations (holds) are not true for every instance using M118, nor for every M24 sniper weapon system, nor every caliber, nor even every instance using M118.

In fact, there are several factors that influence the hold that a marksman would need to apply. In order to know your "hold" you would have to engage a target at each range and note that in your shooter's log book.

I simply provide this information as a Segway to an introduction to “holds” and to assist in facilitating the understanding of the process.

We will utilize this information in the next post when I discuss reestablishing zero at 500 meters and why a military sniper or tactical competition marksman would do so.

TAKE AWAY
For those who wish to utilize the MIL dot reticle system, being familiar with calculating and applying holds can be an extremely efficient method to engage targets at distances. As we continue to work together in this series of posts I hope to provide you with the means to do so efficiently and effectively.

X Ray Vs XRS

I'm considering upgrading from a Bravo chassis.
I'm looking around the 500 dollar mark, give or take.
I'm not specifically looking for one that mimics a conventional stock, as I am just as comfortable shooting either.
I'm also not looking for something in the 1000 dollar range, if I was, I'd just get another magpul 700 pro.
Can anyone chime in that has spent time with both?
pro's and con's of each?

Thanks

Climate Change. Is this really about weather or is it the “climate we live in that needs to be changed”

Enquiring minds want to know

But

Its always a race issue. The climate queen, responsible for crafting the presidents climate change policy What a fucking mess.

Cecilia Martinez, a member of the White House Council on Environmental Quality, announced that she would resign Friday, nearly one year after accepting the role.

“Black, brown, and Indigenous people across America face disproportionate health burdens from environmental pollution,” they wrote. “Too many communities sit in the crosshairs of climate change, facing increasing safety and health risks without the resources and support they need.”

“She has dedicated her life’s work to advancing equity and environmental justice and is exactly who we need at CEQ
,” Earthjustice President Abigail Dillen said in a statement in January 2021, calling her a “superb choice.”

Suppose we really can do something about overall Earth Climate issues. What the Fuck Does This Have To Do With Fucking RACE?

Unless the entire issue is to divide and conquer the citizens of the United States.

Oh yes, I am pissed.
