More excitement from my back'yard'.

I previously shared my immense amusement since moving into the new house of listening to the Horned Owls in the woods behind me (https://www.snipershide.com/shooting/threads/im-a-big-fan-of-owls-personally.7231649/) and also sought out the collective's opinion on a toad (https://www.snipershide.com/shootin...ians-ive-got-a-question-about-a-toad.7232563/) .

Tonight was another first since living here and the topic of discussion is...

Yep- that's right we're talking coyotes. I've long suspected that they were in the area but tonight is the 1st night I've heard them and holy smokes- they're making up for lost time. It sounds like there must be at least a half dozen of 'em but I'm 100% certain they're coyotes. I may be using the wrong terminology but they aren't 'howling' but rather just 'yipping' and freaking the fuck out as they do, it sounds like a whole section of the mountain is covered by them. Here's a quick clip that's dang near a perfect match of what I've been hearing off and on tonight...

I've encountered a few coyotes in the woods over the years here in PA but dang if this isn't the 1st time that the whole other side of the mountain (a couple hundred yards by my estimate) seems to be a literal Disney World for 'em.

Not sure if anyone else has had this happen by their house but my neighbor usually leaves his dog outside and he was going absolutely nuts barking at them. The coyotes were so vocal that I went over to knock on the neighbor's door for the 1st time, not because I was angry about their dog barking (although I wasn't thrilled with that either to be honest) but to ask them if they heard the coyotes (which couldn't have been far from the dog) going nuts and that I was concerned for their dog. We went out back and the neighbor said that he honestly couldn't tell the difference between other dogs and coyotes and once he heard all of the commotion and found out what they were, he thanked me and his dog became an indoor dog (at least for tonight).

This may be common hat to some here- but (as I said) this is new to me, at least in this quantity. What I find to be... IDK just strange about it all is how the coyotes can go absolutely nuts for several minutes and then... nothing. They just seem to go radio silent immediately. I give up waiting outside to listen to them and get back to doing something else and another 40 minutes or so later, I hear them again just going absolutely crazy and then... back to silence.

Is this normal coyote behavior?

SOLD WTT ZCO 5-27

I have a 5-27 MPCT2 scope that lives in my safe on my 6GT that I am looking to trade with "obvious" money on my end for two other scopes.

Either
5-25 ATACR ( Mil C)
5-25 Kahles SKMR ( 1,3 or 4 )
5-25 Minox (MR4)
Or possibly
6-36 Gen 3 Razor

I will try and post some updated pics of it after work tomorrow. This was from the last time it was out of the safe earlier this spring.

Lies endure......

Just had a friend last night bring up the Jan 6 captiol riots. He looked at me funny when I laughed and said "ya riots" while making air quotes. He tells me, I seemed to remeber two police officers with beatin to death. Then he tried doing the you're a crazy conspiracy theorist thing to me when I told him they did not.

You get to see some great examples of how reticles, parallax, Side Focus, and glass clarity come into play in this video. It’s an extension of his other video that compared 36 different scopes. He calls them IPVOs.

Notice how some thick lines get in the way when using the tree for drop.

GOP boycott in Michigan successfully ends 2 years of Dem control of House, kills dozens of Democrat nonsense bills including gun and accessory bans.

LANSING, MICHIGAN DEC 19, 2024

The final days of this year's Michigan State House legislative session ended today after a weeklong sustained boycott and filibuster by Republican delegates and one Democrat ally which resulted in the termination of two years of Democrat control, along with dozens of leftist bills that were snuffed out before they could be sent up to the second chamber for approval. The State House will restart again in January with the Republican Party in control holding a solid 58-52 majority.

Among the bills that were killed were bans on suppressors, "ghost guns", and bump stocks. Also killed were bills requiring non-cigarette pipe/cigar tobacco and electronic cigarette dealers to become licensed, which is great news for Michigan's very large nexus of industries catering to the vape, vape mod/tank building, and nicotine e-liquid making world. (Let me give a BIG shout out as well to Inline Vape in Michigan for consistent quality and service. We cloud-nuts who had been building variable wattage/voltage devices and running hot coils on salt nicotine juice since 2015 have relied on ya'll for most of the components.)

SBR/pistol barrel length???

SBR/pistol barrel length???

So I'm waiting for an SBR stamp and trying to decide what barrel length to go with...

11.5", 12.5", 13.9"

Is there really that much difference in performance... will the shorter end of this range be neutered in MV and make way more gas and noise or are they all fairly similar
It will be a 223 wylde chamber, most likely always have an OCL Polonium suppressor on it and most likely be shooting 60 soft points if they'll group as I have a case of those. It would be a do all set up with a 1-10× optic that I should always have in the vehicle with me for coyotes or self defense

Night Vision US-Made Thermal Clip-on IN STOCK?

I had a good year and I’m considering dropping the money on a Skeet-IRX or VooDoo-S before EOY, but I’ve had zero luck finding units in stock.

If I’m going to get my cheeks clapped ($$$$$) paying US manufacturer prices I want to make sure I to have warranty support, so buying used is off the table for me. Any suggestions on a reputable dealer with either of these units in stock? Preference is probably Trijicon at this point. Thanks!

Rust question.

Not about Alec Balwin, he skated. :(

I have 2 of the Remington 700 jeweled bolt stainless actions (both now proudly sporting PVA barrels. I noticed on the rear of one some very light, what I would call 'browning, or pre rust', like a very light discoloration to the finish. I'm wondering if there is a cure for that. Since @bohem is the metal man, perhaps he could chirp in. Mine is like the one below but not nearly as bad, just a small dime sized spot that you wouldnt notice if you werent looking. I was considering buying the one below but this has me a bit concerned. Is there a way to clean it up.

So blasted Typical

And now she wants to run for politics after seeing her little face doing so much good

Here we go again. Every state has laws and enforces laws against abuse in institutional care. I know. I have spent untold hours testifying in District Courts and in Department of Labor hearings against employees who abuse clients in institutional care. People go to jail for committing these crimes. I know, cause my testimony has sent them there.

So, sure enough, the feds pass a law, thanks to that crusader of justice and the savior of the American Way, Paris Hilton, who’s claim to fame is spending untold millions of her daddy’s money to be promote herself as a play girl. That new law, creates YET ANOTHER Federal agency to duplicate state laws and state programs all paid for by you know who.

Also, as I understand it, one of the provisions of the federal spending bill that has been stopped was a $70,000.00 pay raise for the very people who were voting for it. (In case you are wondering that’s only $37,450,000.00 per year (Thirty-seven million, four hundred and fifty thousand dollars) of additional money we, as citizens have to pay out. )

My suggestion to President-Elect Trump. Work with the Republican Congress to eliminate every Federal agency and start over, adding only those agencies that do not duplicate state agencies. And use all that money to pay off the National Debt and give us all a tax break.

Bullet and powder advice for 1:8 .223 for target/coyote shooting

Sorry in advance for asking something so basic but it would save me a lot of scouring the internet.

I am planning on purchasing a T3X Lite in .223 with a 22" 1:8 barrel for coyote hunting and target shooting. I have seen people get great accuracy out of T3X Lite contour barrels with a slow cadence of fire. Max mag length will be 2.44".

I am looking for a bullet and powder combination that is easy to load for (I don't want to chase the lands), is economical, and has decent terminal effects for predator control. I had initially planned to use 69gr SMKs but I am not seeing a lot of love for them online.

Bullets available to me in bulk in my price range include:

Sierre 69gr SMK
Sierra 77gr SMK
Sierra 77gr TMK
Hornady 75gr ELD-M
Hornady 73gr ELD-M

There are also lots of lighter bullets but I wasn't sure they would work as well in wind, in a 1:8, or in wind although I am far from an expert (obviously.) They include 52gr ELD-M, 55gr SMK, and 60gr TMK among others.

Powder available here is a bit limited with CFE 223 and Varget being what I think would work best. I plan to use Remington 7 1/2 primers.

Barrel contour

I have a remage prefit barrel in 30 nosler from X caliber. Does anyone know of any place that could re contour it and re flute it? I asked X caliber and they will not do it. They also will not produce me another barrel in 30 nosler bc they do not have the reamers and they will not rent them again. I love the barrel it shoots lights out. I ordered a mcgowen in the contour I wanted, but I prefer the X caliber barrel.
