Admirals heading Reserve command and Naval Special Warfare relieved suddenly.

Be interesting to find out what they were up to.

Both promoted to command in ‘24 when Biden was pretty much a drooling potato. Would have been a Pentagon move at RADM level. But those are high profile billets.

This is a big deal…

But how big or why big… I have no clue!

Seating question

Hello all,

I have a somewhat stupid question on bullet seating when seating into a compressed load. I’m noticing one bullets OG will be dead on, the next will be 8k longer, the next 4K longer and so on. I need to adjust the die to each specific round I seat. Is this due to the load being compressed slightly differently in each cartridge? Or am I missing something? All the brass is within .5k of spec, so I know it’s not that.

I used to stay away from compressed loads, but sometimes it’s unavoidable. Everything I’m loading is well within SAAMI spec. specifically 223 with 23-24.5 of N140 under a 75g BTHP.

Any tips or tricks with dealing with compressed loads would be helpful!

Building an MSR/PSR - The Modular Unicorn

Let me start off by saying I know exactly how difficult this endeavor is. I've seen the historical posts and people searching far and wide for everything from pins to actions. I've also had the pleasure of having several conversations with individuals who have laid out an enormous amount of detail and history.

Below is a chassis I picked up in January of this year. I've been so busy running my FFL/SOT, shooting team sniper/field matches, sponsoring the International Sniper Competition down at Ft. Benning (where I got to see the MSR first-hand by talking with the Brazilian team and discuss this with the USCG MSRT team) and preparing other competitions, that this has sat in my safe for a good while. However, the fascination with the design and the iconic look make me pull this out and admire it.
IMG_7700.jpg

I want to start this thread to consolidate information for insight into this specific chassis and what is on it. I want to understand or try to source where these parts may have come from, what era, and what else may have changed along the way. For example, this chassis is not matte but rather has a sheen to it. Likewise, it has no engravings on the magwell. However, the folding stock is a lighter version, not the standard heavy version.

I'd like to know what I'm working with with this piece, and I really haven't dissected it too much insofar as the chassis goes.

I'd love to see this thing come to life and get the time it deserves. For as much engineering and time, money, and energy it required to develop, it deserves to be used.

If you'd like to see this thing come to life and can help outline structured historical or contextual information on certain aspects, it will seriously help me build a full picture of this. I've had conversations with original RemDef employees, but it's a lot to remember verbally.

I'll make a follow-up post on this thread laying out everything I can remember and categorizing it, but I wanted to at least start the conversation off here.

Thank you in advance for helpful contributions and knowledge you can provide!

This is after over 300 DUI cases in this same state had to be thrown out because the drives were sober . This does not include the ones who took a deal for “lesser charges” and paid hefty fines .

Good Shoot?

Middle of the night; dude clearing his house and smokes a black bear (sound only works in full screen for some reason):

i-cjN9HQh-1280.mp4

Thoughts off the top of my head:

Interested in knowing what ammunition he used. Not a big bear, but they’re tough, and usually don’t go down easy.

Nice work on the shooting; looked like good CNS shots right off the bat. Good job. However, less than stellar job clearing the house. If that had been an actual armed intruder, he’d have gotten smoked.

Bonus points for having a sling, but he should have had his support arm through it… much harder to have your weapon taken away from you and used against you. No stone to throw though, he did better than I probably would have done in the middle of the night.

Image stabilized binoculars question

I am looking for some image stabilized binos.
Played with some in a non-firearms class and could have sworn they were Vortex but I am not seeing them on the Vortex web site.
I *think* I am looking for something in the 10-12x and trying to stay under $1k but wanting image stabilized.

Any recommendations for general range use and spotting targets out to 800-1000 yds

Honkey Bucket Augers in due to wokeness

You would think they have learned by now that putting a woke 30 something CEO broad in charge of your American icon is a bad idea.

IMG_0628.jpeg

But not only did it lose a huge portion of its value yesterday during its rebranding and announcement of a pride, initiative, but Cracker Barrel has lost 58% of its stock value since she was appointed in 2023.

This broad must be completely tombed deaf if she has not seen what’s been going on in America the last six months.

She should be removed from her position by the board immediately and terminated.

Remember, it’s a public company so it’s your 401(k) that is eating this.

On the bright side, at least she hasn’t appointed Dylan Mulvaney yet as their spokes faggot.

Other vintage rifle forums? (for son)

I’m not a vintage gun guy, but my son is. He fools around a bit on the Reddit threads but I’ve told him that, by and large, Reddit sucks.

Reddit usernames/posts often wink in and out, and one has a hard time ascertaining the reliability and accuracy of info given there.

➡️ Can you dudes recommend me some good forums out there on post-black powder rifles? I don’t know where else to ask this question and cannot quickly evaluate a forum’s quality.

He likes guns in the Krag .30-40 and 1883 trapdoor Springfield timeframe (the more complicated the loading mech, the better for him lol).

Btw, his interest in this area started via Battlefield 1, the WWI video game. The game is quite fun, and the ammo loading sequences are apparently accurate. Just by playing that game he can manipulate old rifles in the gun stores! He is over 18yrs old, btw.

Our Prosperity is Killing Us. - Better explained than I could

I have been a firm believer for quite some time that our culture and our country as a whole is withering. It is a combination of factors that are rooted to the very prosperity that we worked so hard to achieve. Unfortunately a large part of the human nature bell curve can tend to be greedy and lazy assholes.

I've tried to make my argument for this but my own words always seem to fall short.
FF to a friend posting a link to a Bad Cattitude article about this very thing on Substack. Written as an expansion and reply to The Drunk Republican, I think he says it perfectly.

I copied the text from the article, stripped the pictures and ads out of it and have pasted it below.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

FERTILIZING THE MORON FARM

The other day, gatopal™ “the drunk republican” was pointing out one of the odd contradictions of modernity.

1755831805260.png

But i wonder: is this a contradiction at all? I suspect it is not. I suspect it is, in fact, a sort of emergent property from plenty and wealth and the societal and individual incentives that seem to come with them.

Let us explore this emergent stupidity excursion as, like all such phenomenon, this highly complex and varied structure appears as though it may be well explained by only a few simple causal drivers.

Consider the possibility that the advent of moronical modernity finds its roots in a simple tenet of economics:

when, all else equal, the price of something drops, people choose to consume more of it.

the price of being moronical declined and so consumption of this "good" increased.

Pre-enlightenment, people were poor and life had more notable tendencies toward "nasty, brutish, and short."

It was a time full of severe selectors any of which would both cull you from the herd and assure future generations that genes like yours would not be around to commit further foibles.

The price of moronicality on both the individual and the societal levels was severe and rapid. A world near the edge of its structural carrying capacity to support its humans is a world with small margin for error.

Didn’t lay in enough food or firewood this winter? Guess what happens now.

Allow the nature of your society to become inconsistent with human flourishing and supportive of dependence and predation, and guess what happens then?

How many who fell for “communism could totally work if we just get the right people in charge this time!” are no longer with us to fall prey again?

Such calamity used to be near instant. Now it is a slow burn through the sizable fat reserves of the once replete civilizational success that made everyone so comfortable in the first place.

The “plenty” of the post enlightenment removed these penalties . . . even replacing them with welfare state subsidy.

That's how you fertilize a moron farm.

It's also how you drive and enable antisocial behavior and open up a society to conquest and collapse.

Concern about MK22 handguard cracking during first barrel change

Hi everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience with the Barrett MK22, because I was honestly surprised and think it’s worth discussing.

I own an MK22 with relatively light use (under 200 rounds). Recently, I purchased a 7.62 barrel conversion kit together with the official MK22 armorer’s tool kit directly from Barrett. When I went to install the new barrel for the very first time, using the supplied 140 in-lbs torque limiter and the Torx Plus T30 bit exactly as marked on the receiver, the handguard cracked while tightening to spec.

This was the first time I ever swapped the barrel, using the correct official tools and following the manual step by step. I didn’t expect something like this to happen on a rifle of this quality.

I’m already reaching out to Barrett for warranty support, but I also wanted to post here to see if other MK22 owners have run into similar problems. Even if it’s a rare defect, I think it’s important to share so others know what to look out for.

Has anyone else experienced this, or heard of MK22 handguards cracking during barrel changes?

Thanks for reading.
