Any Glass Experts?

I purchased a dual pane tempered glass window last year, and the outside pane shattered while we were out of town.

This is what it currently looks like:

1000012984.jpg

Unfortunately the company I bought it from won't return my calls and emails, so looking at other companies for a window replacement. One company came by for a quote, and I asked them what they think caused the damage. In our discussion animals came up, and I told them about a small house finch that frequently taps on the window. They said that could be it.

Seriously? A 2 oz house finch can destroy a $6000 tempered glass window? Is there any truth to that, or am I getting bullshitted here?

brazil's problems?

have been seeing where brazil is one of the upcoming world powers, bricks etc. this kinda says otherwise. seems to me their problems are similar to ours. out of control crime, massive poverty,inept/corrupt gov for a few. they did also elect (fraudulently ones hears) a communist like us. as i recall persecution of political opponents is also in play. china is not doing too well either and europe is gone. guess when we tank we will have a lot of company.

SOLD WTS Eotech ClipIR-ELR with Impact 4000 kit.

Gents,
This one is no longer used. It has been in my stable since I purchased it directly from DRT last December. It has 9.5 years of warranty left on it, and it is an incredible piece of kit. There are Zero issues with it, I just use my Voodoo mx more and this one sits. My longest confirmed kill was on a yote that set up across a canyon that was sitting barking at us warning off the other yotes. I ended his non-sense at 727 yards with my 6CM. My calling partner and I could not believe that I connected. Yes, there was a bit of luck in that shot. We had to collect his ass the next morning as the hike across the canyon was to difficult to do under nods. Ask anyone on this forum, or dive into the reviews, this Thermal is way kick ass.
@CoryT built up a custom power cable for this unit that uses a power brick of your choice to power the thermal, and a Vortex Impact 4000. You really don't need it for the thermal, but the Impact definitely benefits from external power. Since I had the brick on the rail I figured might as well have the ability to power the ELR too.
I'm blowing out this kit. Prices are soft right now, FJB! So I'm offering the complete kit for $8.5K shipped. This is a Steal!!! This is shipped to your Lower 48 AO. ITAR will be respected, so I'll need proof that you are a U.S. Citizen. Both the ELR and the Impact will come with everything that came with them when sold. The Impact will also include the ARD.
Please PM me directly.
Best regards,

Maggie’s How can something only cause cancer in California?

Good question huh?

Take a minute to read the email from Milspin and revel in your freedoms…

Summary: Storewide Promo & Full Story on California's Proposition 65 Enforcement Industry (First Hand Experience)

We'll knock the promo out of the way first for those who don't have the time to read this book I'm about to write and just want to buy some dope products. I wish I could say that your money is 100% of the time being dumped back into our company to create more jobs for Veterans, but more often than we'd like it ends up going to attorneys for mind-numbing reasons; the below being one of the dumbest on our list to date. I guess it's just part of the game

Today Only, use code "THISWEDDINGISHORSECRAP" at checkout for 35% OFFyour ENTIRE order.

Not valid on custom orders. Not valid on Amazon. Expires at Midnight.
Ok, now for the Prop 65 story...

What is Proposition 65: A 1986 California exclusive law requiring businesses to warn consumers about potential exposure to chemicals that may cause cancer or birth defects.

Hey, that sounds pretty reasonable to the average person. The issue is the lengths they've taken it to and the parasitic enforcement strategies in place.

Who Prop 65 Effects: Any company that is selling products in CA or to CA residents that allegedly contain any one of the 900+ chemicals they list in the law. Pretty much everything you touch has at least one of these chemicals. Companies with less than 10 employees, or any government agency is exempt from this law, of course.

California's Enforcement Strategy and our First Hand Experience: ~8 years ago California amended the law to allow California private attorneys to "enforce" this law. These private attorneys scour retail and online marketplaces, purchase products, and if there is no Prop 65 label or an incorrectly labeled product, they issue a Violation Letter of intent to sue after 60 days if the matter is not settled prior.

These attorneys do NOT need to allege any harm or injury occurred. They only are required to allege that a violation of the law occurred.

Virtually no company takes these alleged violations to court because the cost to litigate them is upwards of 100K and even if you somehow did win, you do not get to recoup your attorney fees. So it's a net loss anyway you look at it.

The private enforcers know this, and that is why the average final settlement for these "violations" is ~$33,000. Enough to heavily pad the attorney's pockets, but not quite enough to entice a company to take it to court.

Upon settlement, there is nothing preventing any other attorney or private enforcement company to go after you for the EXACT SAME THING. There is also nothing preventing the same private attorneys from coming after you for any other product you offer. If they want to destroy you, they have every ability to run you into the ground.

Who Benefits: Prop 65 requires that 75% off the "settlement" goes to CA and 25% goes to the private enforcer who issues the violation letter. BUT, the private attorneys pad the "settlement" with "Attorney Fees" which are exempt from the portion of money required to go to CA.

***Below is a breakdown of the full settlement we had to agree upon for the violation we received for our Brass Magnus Utility Knife:

Civil Penalty Payment (This is the portion that CA gets 75% of and private attorney's get 25% of): $2000
Attorney Fees (all goes straight into attorney's pockets): $20,500
Total Settlement: $22,500
So, CA got $500 lol. This exemplifies the disgusting joke that this entire Prop 65 enforcement is. Furthermore, this settlement was in regards to selling a measly ~600 units of the Magnus to CA residents.

The real question is why are the 49 other States in America allowing California to harm small businesses with this non-sense law and private enforcement tactics. We know absolutely nobody takes the warning labels seriously because it has got to the point that it is on legitimately every product you purchase anymore to try and avoid these enforcers from coming after them, so we don't have any issues putting it on our products as we know it doesn't impact sales.

We just never considered it for the Magnus because we would never expect people to eat it, lick it, rub it in their eyes, stick it in their butts, or whatever else. But apparently CA knows their residents are prone to doing these things and this is their heartfelt attempt at protecting them.

Moral of the story: Put a Prop 65 warning on everything, if/when they come for you just bend over, enjoy it, and say "thank you may I have another."

If you want to see all the settlements and companies that have been affected by this, go to this LINK. They are required to publicly disclose all settlements. You won't find ours there yet, because I signed the settlement moments before crafting this email.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this from an outside perspective. Happy to answer any questions you may have on the matter as well.

WASHINGTON STATE FIREMISSION RED ALERT: Petition to repeal HB1240 (AWB). Deadline 07/05/2024.

2A ALERT FOR WASHINGTON STATE:

INITIATIVE-2050, a petition filed to repeal Gov. Inslee's semiauto rifle ban HB1240 has been made official and open for signatures now. The deadline will be July 5, 2024 5:00PM with a goal of 324,516 valid signatures.

Initiative Measure No. 2050

Filed March 19, 2024

AN ACT Relating to firearms; and creating a new section.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. We, the people of Washington state, demand that every constitutional right be respected to the fullest extent. None of our rights should be at the mercy of sensationalized fear and emotional misinformation! House Bill 1240 was passed under the false assumption that it would cut down on the "explosion of gun violence" with no regard for not only the constitutionality of the ban, but also the house bill’s effect on law abiding citizens legally practicing inalienable rights. If we continue to restrict citizens and businesses from one of the most consistent, common, safe, and modern class of firearm in America, not only will be turning our back on the very constitution that this country was founded on, we also put more young or first time Washington state gun owners at a disadvantage, against those who had no intention in respecting any law in the first place. HS.1240 must be repealed due to its clear infringement on our second amendment right, although well intentioned, any weapons ban of any arms will only change the tool in which evil is carried out. Until we switch our focus from restricting the law abiding citizens to those who carry out that evil, and how they got to that point, we will never address the true underlining issues within our society.

One Piece Scope Mounts ..What do you use?

After some feedback on what people are using . Mounts has to have at least 20moa of cant available . Fixed or QD doesn't matter.

In all the years i have been using Sphur , primarily.... I also have Era -Tac and they have been fantastic but here in Aus obtaining them is very very difficult..

Any input and recommendations appreciated..

No need to worry about November

I just wanted to drop off a voice of cheer here. There is no need to worry about November. Or the $50T national debt. Or Social Security being bankrupt.

If you aren’t going to die of natural causes soon, or have kids, worry about AI.

There is exactly one successful pathway through this next phase in our civilizations evolution and our chances of randomly tolling twelve 60 sided dice all ones matches our chances of hitting it.

Instead what we will have is:

No more middle class. All of those jobs go POOF.

No more upper class but those in charge of AI. Dear MBA’s, Lawyers, Doctors, Inventors etc - you are fucked too.

No more freedom or privacy of any kind. In fact, the AI will build a clone of you in its mental space to decide if you should be eliminated - it won’t even need to surveil you constantly.

Algorithms will decide what you do and think. Who you are. And nothing you can do will stop it. All of society from cradle to grave will restructure itself into “The Narrative.”.

And then, finally, someone will pray to Allah…or the second coming of Brigham Young, or something like that and unleash their destructive civilization ending AI that will just kill us all.

I frankly think most people will welcome the sweet release of death from the AI State by then.

AI AT Accuracy Problems

Hey All!

Finally pulled the trigger on by bucket-list rifle and got an AT in .308 last summer. Its had sporadic trips to the range and shot out to 600yd and seemed to do well. Tried to shoot some Hornady Match the other day and the rifle was printing 2in groups. I know rifles can be picky but this was horrendous. Ive printed some 5-shot groups with some leftover 175gr handloads for another rifle and it did okay but nothing to write home about. Should I be worried? Groups were shot at 100yds, the 2in groups were really good trigger presses with a perfectly centered recitcle when the shot broke (love my AG rear bags). Optic is a 4-32 NX8. Im really hoping this is just me because thats the easiest thing to fix. Thanks!

Rifle Scopes Best High-Magnification LPVO for my use case?

Hello All! I've been reading through all of the previous posts on this and similar subjects, and would like to ask for your guidance on a new LPVO for my particular use case...

What you need to know: This LPVO will be going on a 12.5" ADM AR-15 build with a .223 Wylde Criterion Core barrel and all the fixins. I will be shooting a mixture of ammo types, from 55gr bulk 5.56 for plinking to 77gr 2.23 match ammo for groups at 100 yards. The rifle will be suppressed 100% of the time, using a SiCo Omega 36M in the "short" configuration. I will be predominantly on a flat range, on the East Coast (i.e., surrounded by foliage), at distances less than or equal to 300 yards, during high-sun daylight hours (no dawn/dusk/twilight shooting currently). I do not hunt, nor do I compete (at least not yet); this rig will be for range use only (i.e., not a "truck gun" or anything where it would get beat around too much). The range I have access to has steel at 50 yards, 75 yards, 100 yards, and is being extended to 300 yards this fall. My use case is two-fold: 1) To use the LPVO's illuminated reticle @1X as a pseudo-red dot for quick off-hand shooting of steel targets at 50, 75, and 100 yards, and 2) to then be able to transition to maximum magnification (with minimal illumination) for precision shots at 100 yards on paper and further distances (out to 300 yards) as available. Use case #2 will happen either seated, prone, or off a tripod whereas use case #1 will be more dynamic in nature (e.g., standing, kneeling, moving, etc...).

My current optic setup: I started out with a red dot / magnifier combo on this build, but the magnification range didn't get me where I wanted to be. I was fine with the dynamic "shooting steel" portion of the use case, but could not see the target well enough at 100 yards for precision work with my 3X magnifier. I then went to an old Primary Arms SLx 1-6 I had in my parts bin to try to see if increasing the magnification to 6X would help. Unfortunately, with my aging eyes, and likely the lower quality of the PA SLx glass, moving to a 1-6 helped, but not enough. I lost my "nuclear bright" red dot at 1X, and I didn't gain enough fidelity at 6X to put down small groups, see my misses, etc... So, next I took my Athlon Helos Gen2 2-12 X 42 scope off of my 300 Blackout build and mounted it up on the 12.5. Now we're getting somewhere, LOL! Sure, it looks a little funny on the 12.5", but it's semi-daylight bright @1x (NOT bright enough to be fast off-hand), and at 12X I can make short work of 100 yard paper targets. So, I'm currently sporting an MPVO 2-12 on a 12.5" build, and it's OK, but it needs an offset/piggyback red dot for true, fast, 1X operation in a dynamic shooting environment.

My conundrum: I started searching for a "goldilocks" LPVO - one with nuclear bright 1X illumination for running and gunning on steel, enough magnification range to poke little holes in paper targets at 100 yards, and the clarity to continue on steel to 300 yards in the future. My LGS has the Vortex Razor HD G3 1-10x24 in stock, as well as the Nightforce NX8 1-8, and they both seem like good options, but I'm not sure they're the best option. I've read dozens of different reviews, on here as well as the interwebs, and watched hours of videos on YouTube, and I've got it narrowed down to a handful of scopes. Unfortunately, after all of this research, I've given myself analysis paralysis and don't know what to pick. There are a number of scopes that have great features - on paper - that I haven't been able to handle yet, so I don't know how they translate to actual practice in the real world. I'm hoping that you can share your insights on what you think may be the best for my particular situation. To aid the process, I've made a "Top 10" list of features that I'm most interested in, from most important to least important:

tempImageviIFiv.png

Additionally, I've compiled a list of scopes that are "in the running" for my money. Note: I've also included a few MPVO's as alternates, assuming I can't get everything I want in an LPVO, I'll settle for an MPVO/Red Dot combo. I do not want to pair a red dot with an LPVO as I feel the 1X LPVO should be sufficient, assuming the illumination gets bright enough for quick target acquisition. I'm also not crazy about the chevron center aiming point in the Primary Arms offerings, but I may be able to "learn to love it" if it's the otherwise best choice...

Given the list of criteria above, and the list of scopes, below, which would you choose and why? If you know of something that should be on this list that isn't, and is within my budget (I'm looking at you, March Shorty), please also chime in.

tempImageXedrQP.png

I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to read all of the above, and I look forward to your comments! Please let me know if I can clarify anything or augment the info provided.

What optic do I want for 22lr?

I want a new.scope for 22lr precision shooting.

I want the following features:

50mm or larger objective
24x or greater max magnification
FFP
0.1 mil adjustments
0.2 mil reticle marks (or 0.1)
Under 25y side parallax adjustment
Zero stop
Decent glass (at least Vortex PST Gen2 level)
Under $1000

Things I dont care about...

Illumination
Tube size
10 mils per rev
Locking turrets
Magnification range
Christmas tree reticle
Floating dot reticle
Super tactile turrets

So, what scope am I looking for? Everything seems to be missing something.

The cost of shooting just in components. Thought for the day!

So this is a good one... Just recently got an accuracy test barrel back from a ammo maker. 308win is the caliber. When ever they retire one of ours as they typically go a long time barrel life wise. I get it back and we look at it.

So the accuracy test barrel I got back was officially retired when it hit 27,160 rounds fired thru it. That's not a typo! Not 2k rounds but yest 27k rounds fired thru it!

The barrel was testing five different types of ammo/bullets. Barrel is a 1-12 twist 308win.

At 26,550 rounds the barrel was still shooting groups at from .4 to .5moa at 200 yards and it was getting a 150 rounds a day fired thru it. 10 shot groups by the way.

So while we where looking at it the thought went into our heads. How much powder got burned thru this barrel?

It got roughly a 154# of powder fired thru the barrel.

At a cost of lets say current retail of $70 per pound of powder... that equals $10,800!

27+ boxes of 1k count primers at $85 per 1k that equals $2,295!

270 boxes of bullets (100 count boxes) at a rough retail price of $50 per box that equals $13,500 in bullets!

That total dollar wise comes to $26,959 if you had brass to start with and used your reloaded brass every single time.

If you had to buy brass and only shoot the brass one time.... that would be about $16,740 for brass. That would give you a grand total of $43,335!

Just food for thought.

Anyone Use Reduced Loads Here?

I'm doing some experiments and I'm seeing a lot of recipes for reduced loads, for example 14 grains of benchmark for a subsonic 30.06 from Hodgdons website. But then I keep reading people talking about there's just too much risk of 'flashovers' or detonation because of so little case fill. What is the risk percentage? Anyone shoot these loads regularly, for say their young kids?
