Flooding in TX Hill Country/Kerrville

Today 7 of our members are providing comms support for teams searching for scattered cloud, hot and high humidity. These young folks are working unremittingly. They are walking the river and floating on rafts. I’m on a station in the center of a big horseshoe bend in the rover30 miles downstream from Kerrville. No reporters, no kooky-loos, just some grim face fire and Leo team including two dog teams. Fire ants, snakes, heat, humidity all conspire but nobody is quitting. Helicopters flying low and slow. 3 LEO teams and a dog team have inserted at my location alone. 1,000 searchers are in the next town north.
Supplies are coming in. HEB is doing a great job and several restaurants are feeding crews. This is so different from the way North Carolina was handled.
Typical of the press, they are trying to pin blame on whomever it sticks. Note that there is very little or poor cell service. While many alerts were published nobody was awakened by alarms or alerts in the upper reaches of the disaster.
Secondly the city of Kerrville does not extend to Ingram or Hunt. Giving grief to city managers and systems is inappropriate.
Note also: I haven’t seen a single antifa, or lgbtqxyz helping here. Not a single blue hair.
North Carolina was a fubar but in its defense it was really rugged mountain terrain with few roads to begin with, once they were out access was near impossible. In the end it was the locals who got it going, not FEMA. Y'all have all the resources of Austin, San Antonio to help. Those mountain vallets are remote.

Good luck with your recovery.

Long range build advice

A friend of mine donates his once fired winmag brass to me. This was hornady 2x reloaded with berger 155.5's at 3300fps. Not even really a hot load. No, there was no excessive headspace. I bump the shoulder .002" at the max.

Op, I think you're on the right track with the 300PRC. As much as it hurts me to say that, being a diehard winmag fan. As others have mentioned, you have to put in some extra effort with the chambering and building your ammo to really make it shine. The PRC was built for it right out of the gate.

With what you're putting together, you'll probably come in around the 18-20 pound mark or more if you want to put weights on your chassis.

My winmag comes in around 17lbs now I think. I run it suppressed with a brake full time, and it's hard for me not to shoot 50 rounds every time I take it out. It's probably my favorite rifle to shoot, I just don't get a chance to stretch it's legs as often as I'd like.

Poor picture of the rifle but here it is. Trued 700 with a heavy palma contour 9 twist bartlein, jewell trigger, in a krg bravo. Loaned it to a family member for a nilgai hunt here in TX. Can't remember where. The 215 hybrid left the muzzle at 2920 and dumped him at 585 yards.

WTF is that on the muzzle end?

Dem lawmakers say their voters are threatening 'blood' and 'violence' over inability to hinder Trump: report

i dont see any similarities between vietnam wars and a US CW 2. i wasnt comparing them.

you think any side will be centrally commanded, organized and well provisioned? how do you know who is against you and who is on your side unless they tell you?

a war on our soil citizen vs citizen will not be cut and dry, black and white, one side bombing the other.

i stand by my assertion about the casualties. its not the romantic fantasy most gun owners think it will be.
No, it would be the most horrible thing that Americans have ever experienced, and I hope it never happens.

DEON Execs announce US-based March Scopes Service Center in Q1-2026

This past weekend at the Bayou Rifles monthly 1000 yard match, the CEO of DEON Optical Corp, Minako Kobayashi and the CMO, Mari Morita, who were visiting from Japan, and attending the match announced that starting in Q1 of 2026, DEON USA would be establishing a DEON Service Facility in the Houston area to serve all US customers who may have March riflescopes that need servicing.

This means that starting in Q1 2026, owners of March riflescopes in the US will be able to contact DEON USA and they will be issued a shipping label so they can send in their March riflescope if it ever needs servicing. If the service cannot be performed at the Houston-based facility, it will be sent to the factory in Japan and returned to the customer after service is performed.

More details will be forthcoming on the official March website, Facebook and other social media sites but I wanted to let the folks here know the news ASAP.

Rifle Scopes Atacr gen 2

4-20 is a very good scope. Perfect hunting mag range. For some reason all the atacr optical formulas start with narrow for class FOV at low end, but then come back to normal for class on the max end. The 4-20 is a perfect range for hunting or nrl hunter setup, but the 35oz weight is a bit hefty. It compares very well to my Zco420. It's lighter by one oz, and just bout and inch longer.
Since you have both (NF and ZCO 4-20) have you compared both at 4x for FOV? I realize that NF numbers are less than ZCO but would be curious real-world experience, does the ZCO feel like it is a lot wider at 4x or not so much? And then how about at 20x, same thing, FOV comparison and initial thoughts?

I think both you and akmike are misunderstanding Mike C's point: he's asserting that in Vietnam, Iraq and A-stan, had our government overlords let our military completely off the leash, they'd have razed those countries (and their fighters) to the ground.

And honestly I'm not really sure how you argue against that, and it's certainly not a claim that can be hand-waived away with "excuses".
