Texas hogs from field to table

When it comes to eating boars can be a mixed bag. Some boars eat fine while others will stink up the entire house when you cook them. Same is true with sows but your chances of getting a stinky sow is much lower than a boar. I have shot boars that smell so bad you don't even want to touch them with your knife. If given a choice I will take a 100lb or less sow if I am going to eat one.

I googled "ARC tennon Specs" and the first relative link that popped up showed the below image. If you go to their website, Support page links to the same CDG pdf with 0.822. One link below is their other actions which says "not for CDG" and indicates a 0.825".

This is the EXACT print......and the one linked to their website.

I understand things change, so I always check the manufacturer's website to make sure I get the updated specs.

Don't get me wrong, I am not shitting on ARC.......I just made a decision to no longer offer prefits based on their own print/action inconsistency.

It sounds like .825 +/-.001" is pretty consistent from Bohem and others. However if I am cutting to a print.......then I am cutting to a print......and the burden of error/design is not mine. This is basic machining 101.

I also believe in providing the best customer service and experience possible. Given all this information, the best solution for me moving forward is to have any ARC action in hand when fitting a barrel.

Official (DTA) SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Another Range Day with the SRS and Covert, and as always, they don't disappoint. Just bugholes.
Tomorrow a buddy has a few Amish Friends who've cleared corn and have 1000yds visibility. So I'm putting on a literal Amish Rifle Range... Not a constellation of words I'd ever thought I'd hear. Will update.
You sure don't see that every day!

MB camper van

You can build your own or buy it.
If you think you need 4wd, get it.
Go with the longest body available. You can thank me later.

Also, go with the high roof if you get a Ford. Mine is my daily driver, so I opted for the mid length and mid roof.

View of the rear area during the build. Lots of storage under the bunk/ bench and on the center line. Note the water heater/shower. 22 gallon tank under the right side with pump for showers, dishes, etc.

Electrical stuff under the driver's side. Solar and AC on top.

Lots of LED, dimmable lighting. Toe kick lights were added later.

Kicking back with some Buffalo Trace after a long day. It's hard to share a queen bed with an 85# mutt. Rebecca is going over the next day's drive.

Got back home exactly 30 days ago from SD Badlands, Yellowstone, Big Horns, Beartooth highway, Idaho, Tetons, Wind River range and a little bit of Utah.

7 miles shy of 7,000 mile round trip.
We averaged 17.6 MPG with all the weight in the van and dealing with some heavy WY crosswinds.

To say I'm pleased would be an understatement. There was never a lack of power with the non-turbo 3.7L engine.

I'm super glad I added the extra weight of proper sound deadening and dual layer insulation.
It's stupid quiet inside.

When I bought the van, I did an owner's cost comparison and the Ford came out on top at less than half the cost per mile of the Merc.

I bought the van used with 147k on the odometer for $18,500. It was in much better condition than the average work van.
The build cost for all materials, including water, AC and solar, was just under $11k.
That doesn't include the audio system. Gotta have my music.

You can of course, buy a pre-built van. Most will be on the Mercedes or Ram platform.
The Ram has the largest interior, the Mercedes is the skinniest of the 3.
The Ford, I found after making a few measurements and cuts, is egg shaped... At least I took the measurements on the widest part of the body. It's easy to take material off. 😄

You guys should wear socks, even to bed. Maybe use gorilla tape to keep them on. 😆

I have a truck camper. Arctic Fox 865. It turned out to be at close to a thousand pounds heavier than advertised. But the build quality is excellent and its been basically trouble free for a decade.

4 season ready, heat is awesome for cold camping, deer and elk season. It holds plenty of everything. Except a dead deer, plan on sliding it sled and all into the camper, lol.

Downsides? High profile can be a drag in the wind and its tough on gas mileage. I've taken it all over the place.

The van or rv is a non-starter with my bride but she really likes this thing. Watching my mother and her idiot husband piss away a million dollars on shitty built motorhomes left a bad impression.

Being smaller is handy on forest service roads and being able to run 90% of everything off an extension cord is nice when visiting grandkids who reside in a small house on a small lot in a small town of stinky hippies. I can go to my own place and avoid the daughter in laws hairy armpit friends.

I talked with Mike R today and asked about the amount of force he uses in his rifles because I had one of his rifles and it never shifted poi cold or hot action, unlike many other bolt actions have

He explained he uses way more torque than most and has his barrel lugs made of special steel that is 45 Rockwell hardened so it does not smash from the torque to accomplish the task. Well he went into far greater detail than that but it was over my head. All I can say is what Tac Ops does works

So I don’t know the minimum torque required but I know it’s a lot more than some here are using

Here in Europe it seems RV market is cratering a bit and there are some of these 4x4 sprinters availible at prices you couldn't even build one youself. Not to mention it seems the base platform with 4x4 got a bit more affordable as you can now buy a 4x4 Sprinter camper van for like 90k Eur new , years ago bare 4x4 sprinter cargo van cost like 70+k and most campers cost in 120-150k .

Probably the cheapest one

You’re missing the proximity fuse….

You are right... My list is from memory. And I am sure I accidentally put some "Top 10" items into the top 5.

This was a real game changer.

BTW, the guy who came up with the method to manufacture the Proximity Fuse in bulk was a guy named R.C. Graseby. He invented the "Venner Time Switch" which was used to control turn signals in prewar cars.

I used to own his Bentley! Hooper-bodied 4.25L Derby. B143HM. One of two made. The other was B142HK which was owned by Michael, Duke of Kent.

Well, history is where you find it.

Cheers,

Sirhr
