Canadian Ranger rifles in the Arctic need replacements, don’t work in the cold

$8million at $1000/stock, and this is a high estimate for a wood laminate stock, would mean they have 8000 rifles. They have about 5000 Rangers. Someone is getting fucked on the deal. Even replacing with a chassis with plastic skins is stretching it for $1000.

Well, it is Monopoly money north of the border so maybe $1000 is about right. IDK.

Neck collapsed reloading new brass?

I collapsed 3/50 necks on ADG 300 wsm brass a few months ago just using 21st century nitride mandrel on virgin brass, same mandrel I've used on thousands of 308/300wm/nm cases without issue. The shoulders folded inside the case body and I could barely even feel it happen. Never had this happen on any other brass ever. Setup was not an issue, I can only attribute it to abnormally soft brass.
Hmmm??? Did you chamfer that ADG virgin brass? And do you keep you mandrel clean from burrs that might come off and lodge into it?

My .308 ADB brass came with consistent trim lengths, but they were not chamfered or deburred. They had significant burrs on both the ID's and OD's. I chamfered and deburred mine before running any mandrel through them. In my experience, a mandrel doesn't always take care of the ID burrs.

Israel/iran

People should learn up the history of the region and understand why other countries hate Israel.

Hint: it has nothing to do with religion. In fact, early Zionist's were considered allies to the Islamists, until they started taking land.

Fun fact: Israel started as a terrorist state.

Sounds a lot like what we did to the natives and the British…

Hypothetical: 1x fired --> annealed

Dimensions change, that don’t get touched by a die (think primer pocket), textures change that don’t get touched by annealing (think case web), concentricity changes (every pass through the sizer takes a case farther from perfectly concentric), every resizing changes case length and case wall thickness, every ejection torques the case rim…the list goes on and on and on….way beyond hardness and “proper” home heat treatment. Which by the way, if you are flame heat treating, is a completely uncontrolled process that relies on feels and guesswork…and thus leaves brass different every time.
Depending on feel and guesswork is exactly why I bought a hardness tester and tested various approaches stated in different forums for flame annealing. Like, taking the brass out of the flame when the flame turns color (yellow or orange) or dropping the case out of the flame just when it begins to glow. These two methods did not get my brass necks to my target hardness (that being the same as Lapua virgin brass). The flame color method resulted in hardness substantially harder than my target and that "begins to glow" method still didn't get me anywhere near enough. Though those two methods didn't bring the hardness down to my target, the hardness readings were consistent from case to case and from on lot to another. Note too, we're not having to deal with absolutes as any very small variations that can be measured with very high end equipment doesn't really have any measurable effect on shooting results.

What I found that works with my flame annealing is bringing the neck to a red glow for just a hair over 1 second (in a darkened room) and the consistent timing produce consistent results as measured by my hardness tool. Getting the necks that red glow suggested by color that the temperature was somewhere between 1,100 - 1,200°F (600 - 650°C). I had to find just the right amount of time at that temperature range to get the necks at the right amount below the target softness so that the sizing would hit the target hardness.

Consistency is what it really all about. ;)

Israel/iran

And where is the promise from Iran an event we'll remember for centuries?

Israel/iran

Exactly right…^^….and a sign that you are intelligent and know some ME history. Unlike quite a few in this thread.

People should learn up the history of the region and understand why other countries hate Israel.

Hint: it has nothing to do with religion. In fact, early Zionist's were considered allies to the Islamists, until they started taking land.

Fun fact: Israel started as a terrorist state.

Varget in 6mm GT (sorry so fabulous i forgot to add which 6)

I've run thousands of rounds of Varget loads in both 6 Dasher and .223AI and never thought it fouled any more than the other loads I've tried. I clean my 6.5CM (H4350) and 6 Dasher rifles on similar intervals and never noticed a difference.
My theory is Varget and H4350 are the same thing just in different kernel sizes to affect burn rate.

I never noticed Varget being a dirty powder. It seems to have completely average fouling.

I have come to the conclusion that everyone involved in this is like silverback gorillas banging their chest but then when it comes time to get busy they just turn into chimps slinging shit at each other. Same as always. Perhaps it’s the best way out instead of fully committing to world war.
