Stupid question about recoil: 1 cartridge vs another

Recoil velocity is a function of the velocity and mass of “ejecta” (bullet + powder), and the rifle weight.
This is the age-old formula I’ve always been told is correct. I’ve never studied it to prove it right or wrong, but have read a few articles by “knowledgeable” people who have, and their conclusions were that it is correct, ie change anything in the formula, but still end up with the same velocity and mass of ejecta (bullet + powder) and you end up with the same recoil.
Me, I don’t claim to know, but it makes a fair amount of sense, and seems to be fairly accurate based on my totally anecdotal perceptions behind the rifle.

Toughest scope mounts?

Hey,

I am certainly not a materials expert, but I have seen broken clamps and the ones that cracked looked more brittle to the naked eye. I do know they finally just went to steel. I am currently replacing aluminum ones with steel as people reach out to me. In all the cracks I have seen I have seen only two instances where the mount itself cracked.

In both cases there had to be a pretty severe impact.

Stupid question about recoil: 1 cartridge vs another

I can't see any difference using the same projectile at the same speed and same type firearm.

I have read things about different shoulders on the brass effecting it but don't believe it.

Equal velocity shoving equal weight seems to warrant equal reaction (recoil).

There is a lot of stuff on the market to help mitigate felt recoil at reasonable prices and then there is hyped up crap as well.

Muzzle devices and recoil pads work, adding weight works.

Most of the rest is crap with added hype and if brand fanboy hype weighed anything some of it would work but that's not happening.

I like E C Tuner Brake for my applications. The aggressive brake portion seems to work better than the cheap to mid price stuff I've had since it mitigates rearward blast and the tuner is making me a happy guy.

One of the very few fanboy things I own in life.

22 ARC real finicky?

Hornady’s 88 gr Eld-M load is money in my gun, but I could not reproduce it with hand loading. I found a great load using Berger 75 vlds, but they’ve been iffy to source. In my limited testing, these are the only 2 loads that were really good. So, yeah, maybe the 22 arc is a bit sensitive. All of my loading of the 22lr has been for a gas gun, with Hornady brass and cfe223, for what it is worth.

Boeing down in India

I was bored and wanted to find the crash site on google maps and located it from street view based on news pics of the buildings since the location showing up isn’t accurate. I found the building the plane hit that the tail section is hanging out of and clicked on the business and it’s a mess hall. People are leaving reviews about the crash. WTF? Such mixed experiences too, we’ve got a 1 star, a 3 star, and a 5 star. 3 star reviewer posted some more pics that aren’t on the news.

Hunting & Fishing HOA pond improvements

Use 2x2 stakes driven into the bottom but leave about 14-24" sticking out. Place the stakes in random patterns, then put & secure galvanized chicken wire over the top of them. Lay your Xmas trees (or any other tree)on top of the wire, but allow them to touch the bottom on one side. Most fish ambush their pray & will hide under that contraption. You can then take a single piece of pvc that is off the bottom about 1-2 ft and throw dog food, cracked corn, ect down it late in the afternoon. Move the PVC the next day to another pile. The fishing will get much better after a few months. Enforce a size limit for a few years then you can raise the limit. Happy fishing,...
If you get to the point of table fishing only, many different tactics for that.
Good ideas, I think one of the issues is no one takes any fish out. Bass, panfish none. There have been days where I caught 40-50 1# bass in 3-4 hours. No one wants to eat anything out of a pond where everyone’s yard and sump pump runs off into. The DNR said we need to cull 1k bluegill per acre per year but I hardly see/catch any BG

Stupid question about recoil: 1 cartridge vs another

Recoil velocity is a function of the velocity and mass of “ejecta” (bullet + powder), and the rifle weight. More powder will equal more recoil velocity. Heavier rifle will equal lower recoil velocity. If you were to hold the rifle weight, bullet weight, and muzzle velocity constant, the cartridge with more powder will have more recoil velocity. In the above example, I’d expect the 6br to have about 9% lower velocity than the 243.
