11 firings.
Alpha munitions 6.5cm OCD LRP brass
Ive Annealed every firing. Now theres these wonky ridges on the insides of the necks and can feel them slightly on the outside but theyre not as pronounced as the insides are. When I resize I always full length size using the sac die with the expander mandrel inside so its all in one step. Does anyone know what causes this? And how to avoid this in the future? My other lots of brass dont have them at 5 and 4 firings.
I've seen the same kind of thing on the inside of my brass necks, but not near as pronounced. I've never seen or felt anything on the outside of the neck and none of mine have looked like that right after firing. After firing, it just looks completely coated with burnt powder residue.
I do anneal after every firing and clean the necks outside with some steel wool, then lube and size just the outside of the case without cleaning the inside of the neck. After dry tumbling, to remove lube, I then use an expander mandrel to expand the necks and I always get some of that. Since I don't clean the inside of the neck, other than what the dry tumbling does, I figure what I see is just from the residual powder residue that the expander mandrel is rubbing on. What I see appears to be so thin, like in microns, that with the residual lube from tumbling it just doesn't seem to have any affect.
