LMT wins MRGG-A

But in a setting where barrel changes go through the armorer anyways, does the time saved really matter compared to the costs of servicing two different platforms? My initial thought is it has to be a big price difference to justify multiple platforms.
Agree, but it is easier to swap barrels for the armorer, with the LMT. Changing calibers to 308 is also easier. No need to pull off the handguard when swapping barrels. Most US Army Armorers are not like the tool ninjas here on Sniper's Hide, lol.

Regardless, it is probably price more than anything:

There is also something to be said about the monolithic upper for a 14.5" "assault" battle rifle. Putting a laser on the end of it, along with all the other things SOCOM has to use, the MRP makes more sense when one is not concerned about utmost accuracy. LMT has a track record as well selling the .308 MRP aboard (UK, Eastern Europe). For the MRGG-S contract, a 20" sniper rifle really is a different animal, and how one mates the barrel to the upper receiver, along with a lot of other little things, matters more. A standard LMT MRP cannot do what a Seekins SP-10, other custom AR-10s or the like can do in terms of accuracy. For a 14.5" barreled "assaulter", if it can shoot 1-1.5 MOA with standard "match" ammo, who cares?

Regardless, this whole conversation is pointless, because we don't have the actual data, nor will we ever be given privileges to see the testing data most likely. LOL. I'm sure both rifles performed well, and like you said, it came down to price. For us civilians, we will probably be fine shooting either platform, along with other competitors.

As an aside, parts commonality obviously did not matter, so now we have the US Army using the HK 417 (M110A1 CSASS), a certain US military unit using Seekins SP-10s in the sniper role, many many KAC SR-25 variants still in service along with 6.5 Creedmoor uppers, the US Army wanting to use the Sig Spear MCX in a proprietary caliber, and now SOCOM will be using a Geissele MRGG-S and a LMT 14.5". All of these rifles are using either 308, .277 "Sig Fury" or 6.5 Creedmoor. LOL! Insane. Sounds like a logistics nightmare if and when we have to fight the Chinese Communist party and the Democrats for California and New York.

Nas3 308 Brass

The casings are absolutely NOT re-sizeable. I tried to neck size 1 and the base tore off leaving the broken case stuck inside my die. It was well lubed.
I thought they were supposed to have enough tensile strength to spring back and not need resizing?

Will the fired cases still chamber and hold a bullet?

Edit: I know the pistol does have a spring that pushes the case out in the mouth vs the shell holder pulling the rim off, but I found this to rifle cases specifically.

Police Appreciation Thread

I taught my kids early and often never to take things that don’t belong to them, and what I wrote above is actually one of my most often repeated statements to my kids. “I’d rather pull my own eyeball from my head with my fingers than steal something.”

Spicer’s five and dime store was about three mi from my house. It was basically a big toy store with five or six candy aisles and big bins of $.01 and $.02 candy. It’s very common in my area for adults who grew up in my area to admit the stole from it. I was with kids who stole. I never did once. I was too scared to. Not scared of getting caught, but scared of disappointing my Dad.

Ok, here is the good, the bad and the ugly.

All shots were at 150 yards.

For non-reloaders these are pretty nice but for me its a NO. My Alpha brass works just as well and some have 15 firings on them.

Your take on what our (society) future looks like...

Nah Duck.....Lots of 20's and 30's kids and couples are buying homes. It is all a cycle and local. Many young couples have two decent incomes and as usual lenders wanna lend.
When the rates drop next year after the current Fed. Chair gets unemployed things are going to go wide open. Sales and Refi's

Took the brakes out to test this morning as planned. I used the same rifle weighing in at 12 lbs 5.2 oz. The weight includes the bipod and is +/- 1 oz or so depending on the brake. Ammo was the same as well with 6.5CM factory Hornady 140 ELDM at 2728 fps avg.

I only shot at 200-ish yards but backed the power down to 4x so I could have a wider field of view to see what the reticle was doing in relation to the target.
The SiCo brake was a little softer and did a good job at keeping the reticle flat enough. Post shot recovery was fine. The RX Comp definitely had a bit more felt recoil but stayed flatter. Between the two it felt like it had more of a downward push. If you watch the videos I linked and really pay attention, you can see a very slight downward push on the Comp. Without ear pro the SiCo brake was a tiny bit easier on the ears.
The winner for me is the RX Comp but the SiCo brake also does the job well for $170 retail.
