I've shot side by side other shooters with my little Helos and their "better" Leupold and their better "glass quality" in the Leupy meant exactly ziltch.

Now as we go up in scope power, say from 20x and up, glass quality or lack thereof really shows up in overall clarity and light transmission. Yet those very high scope powers in use are often negated by mirage, rendering them near useless often.

None of this is to say don't spend big money on rifle optics, but rather consider all elements in your proposed optics package, of which "glass quality" is just one of many elements that rounds out a rifle scope.

I agree. Accurate and repeatable turret adjustments, accurate reticle subtensions (if you're a holder) and durable overall design (what good is ANY of the attributes you pay for if it all goes to shit with one jar or drop?) is the most important.
A lot of people forget a TON of successful target competitions and warfare was done with a hundred year old glass. Those old school dudes misses were from Im guessing bad wind readings, complete crap ammo, shitty friction adjustments causing inconsistent dialing, or the shitty mounts they used to use more so than bad image quality.
Of course there's always some hard engagements you're going to miss or not even see with anything less than alpha glass when competing on the fringe of any scopes capabilities like really small, dark colored targets/plates at a long range and at limited visibility or high mirage conditions, but those conditions are few and far between if ever for most shooters here.
Super nice glass is a nice luxury, but not necessary imo.

What is a good FFP 30mm option?

I have the nx8 4-32x50 & the athlon ares btr gen2 hd 4.5-27x50 now, and had the viper pst gen2, and I thought the pst viper edged it out JUST BARELY in clarity and turret feel but thats obviously subjective based on your eyes, personal preference and the range you'll be shooting at. If you have good eyes, and will be inside of 800m (for my eyes) (and I think you will be with a 6br), I feel the Athlons will work out. If you cant find one used here for a good price i'd go directly to expertvoice or eurooptic and get a gen 3 for 629. I think they're good values.

Rifle Scopes Lightweight short range hunting optic?

The Vector is really starting to sway me with all its features. Trying to find a 2-10 or 1.5-9 for a mid range AR to replace my Viper gen 2 2-10 since the turrets are huge and do not lock. Vector has locking turrets and the GPO 1.5-9x44 has capped turrets and the only one in that line with a mil styled reticle. There really isn't a lot of options with a decent reticle in the midrange scope market. Not doing the Athlon 2-12 after reading about so many breakages. Yes they have a rock solid warranty, just don't need a scope crapping out halfway through a run and gun. The MK4 Leupold seems to be 50/50 on satisfied customers.

Optics Advice for AR-15

For my close in AR, I use an Athlon Helos btr gen 2 2-12 x 42. I dont like telescopes on my rifles especially my lightweight, close range AR's, and this fits the bill pretty well. It's not perfect however. For me the reticle is too thick (i do know that it was intentionally designed that way for bigger targets closer in) and sometimes (not very often) the reticles pretty useless at the lower powers.
Overall though, it's affordable, not big, has locking turrets, and with a throw lever is a fast scope that you can scan at 2 power, pick up a target, throw up to 12 pretty quickly and engage what you need to engage. I think it's a good compromise for me.
