These are critical factors in doing what you are suggesting. Its the time aspect that is important - if a shut down lasts only months it crushes the ROI to retrofit or build. So in the time it would take to do those things and the length of time of the disruption is where the economic impact lies.

With ABQ it depends on the mode you use. If its in DOF mode then just keep it pointed at your targets and you are good. If in North mode you will need to keep it pointed North as you adjust. But either way it won't hurt anything.

There's little focus on the core business - finding and producing hydrocarbons. Much more focus on DEI initiatives, stock buy backs and buying out other companies to increase reserves on the books.

No real worthy discoveries in the last 10+ years.

In looking at your picture, another thing just now occurred to me that'd be in addition to the issue of burrs. Looking at the inside of the necks (including those of my own virgin ADG's) I noticed the coating from ADG's annealing process. Annealing always leaves an oxidation layer that actually quite abrasive. It makes me think it added additional resistance when drawing the mandrel through the neck, which may have contributed to that??? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I know you said you didn't feel much resistance thinking it's due to them being too soft. But it still take quite a bit of pressure to fold the shoulders like that. When I tested the necks on ADG's for hardness with my Webster Harness Tester, they tested just a little harder than my Lapua brass and about the same as my Peterson brass. I know that doesn't mean your brass couldn't be different. This is just to let you know what I found when doing measurements with my brass.

I think you are letting this American self sufficiency idea, override what is actually financially viable and wise.

I personally agree we should build more Refining capacity in the US. But it is not something that can just be flipped on and off like a light switch. And you must consider market fluctuation. If you have some ace up your sleeve knowledge, the industry would pay you well to share it.

Keeping production costs down on building refineries would be a start. Circa 1975 I signed on as a union painter when they were building a Champlain refinery in Corpus Christi. When they didnt have any work they'd send us up to the top of the tower with a broom and told us "Stay up there out of sight." We were making $7.00 per hour (then beni's on top of that)do stay out of sight and there were a bunch of us. Not a complaint, 7 per hour for snoozing is alright with me but damn...
