Bartlein Barrels Update

Try Southern Precision Rifles?

He normally orders the M24/M40 contour which is pretty close to the MTU. The M40 is 1.2" breech x 3" with a .900" muzzle.

The MTU is 1.250" x 2.750" with a .930" muzzle.

Can't think of anyone that would have a MTU in stock.

This is really close to a heavy varmint. When I was looking for an MTU talked to Greg at SPR, he told me the HV was so very close. I listened and got one.
I’ve used all three of these a number of times and am fine with any of them when I’m looking. I do trust Greg and Russ though.

"Over Gassed" AR's Fact or Fiction? Other Perspectives

I’ll toss in my 2 cents. Over gassing is real. I shoot a lot of ar’s 2 gun matches mainly. High round count guns are the norm. Guns with parts specific to running the gun fast as fuck will definitely need the gas adjusted.

Guns that are cheap that some my buddies shoot are always over gassed couple of them add cans and instantly start having issues.

Not saying an over gassed gun can’t run or that dirty guns aren’t problematic. But an over gassed gun can definitely have issues that are resolved buy limiting the gas flow. Whether it be gas block, tube, carrier key. Limiting gas has its benefits.

Pretty sure my match gun wouldn’t run for shit with full gas or it would just break its self. Bolt carrier is 3.9oz and has an unrivaled buffer. Hands down flattest shooting rifle ever.

Typically, the listings are done a year in advance, at the NRA show that's going on at the time. For example, during the 2025 NRA show, companies will be registering for the 2026 NRA show.

.260 Remington

Been playing around with my new TRG A1 in .260 lately. Rifle now has 157 rounds through it.

Went through a box of 130gr ELD-M, trying to see if it would shoot with VV N160. It did, but was pretty picky until I hit the 44.7 - 45.0gr window. Well...it shot amazing down around 42.5gr...but the velocities were just way too slow. Grendel shooters would have been excited though.

44.8 is where I stayed at, and I tested it again at 300 and 650 where I trued the velocity to basically 2,800 FPS on the nose. SD was under 10, but not by much. It shot a half-minute at 300, and 2/3 MOA at 650...which is perfectly fine for me. The low shot at 650 was me, but it wasn't out of the group enough to discredit it.

Having ran out of 130gr ELD-M, I tried the 130gr Norma Golden Target this afternoon. I kept the charge weight of N160 the same at 44.8gr, and just messed with seating depth a little. There is a ton of room in the throat of that TRG. 2.925 was my max mag length, and I still wasn't at the lands. (2.925 OAL = 2.310 CBTO).

It's looking promising, so I'll split the difference and try again soon to verify. I didn't chronograph it today either.

Specs:
26" TRG A1
130gr ELD-M/Norma
Virgin Peterson LRP brass
Fed 210
44.8gr VV N160
2.210 (ELD-M)/2.290-2.300 (Norma)

2,800 FPS
19 ES*
9 SD* (when I chronographed the ELD-M)
Seems quit slow for that length barrel.

My 19" 260 is doing 2800fps with 130 ELD-Ms with H4350.

My 24" 6.5CM had them 2800-2950fps without any trouble with H4350.

Rifle Scopes Burris XTR 3 Vs Athlon Cronus

I don’t have a Cronus and it’s been a long time since I’ve used one and don’t believe it was the current generation.

I do have an XTR3 3.3-18i here (had 4 of them not that long ago) and an Athlon Helos 4-20 which is a much lower end model than the Cronus and that Helos is better is just about every way than the XTR3. I’d say the turrets and reticle design are about equal with the Helos being a little easier to pick up on the low end but everything else goes to the Helos. The magnification, illumination, and parallax controls are smoother and less stiff, the illumination control isn’t like a circular saw blade, the image and glass quality is better, and the image quality doesn’t suffer on the higher magnification like the Burris does.

I couldn’t tell you if the FOV is larger on one or the other though. People like to tout that as an advantage on the Burris but if it is larger it’s not enough to make a noticeable difference in actual use and it certainly doesn’t make up for all of its other shortcomings.

I’d buy the Cronus over the Burris all day if those are the two options. Or a Helos and a case or two of ammo. Or a MK4HD, Bushnell Elite or any one of a number of other optics over an XTR3.
That's because the FOV on the Helos Gen2 is pretty wide, definitely wider than a Cronus.

If your 4 XTR3 3.3-18s were anything like mine then I get why you found them underwhelming.
Did you ever have a 5.5-30 model, that can confirm if glass was better?

I did PM the seller directly

But you also posted in the post. That is what you should not do. That is how the scammers knew you wanted it and started sending messages.

Speaking of those messages did you report them? If not then we don’t know about them and can’t get rid of them. You do it by hitting the report button at the bottom of the pm they sent you.

Wow. Why did they not make a public announcement? Did someone buy them?
I don't know why there was no announcement, but I do know that no one bought them. I've had lots reach out to ask why, but I can't/shouldn't comment on the particulars. I've been giving away spare parts that I've had on-hand for a while, but sadly, I'm all outta parts now.
