.260 Remington

I’m more of a slow and steady guy, but also use H4350 and get a casual 2750 with 136 ScenarL right near 41.8g in a 26” barrel. The N160, I understand to be a bit slower and could help barrel life.

For me, 2750 was so consistent and predictable that I stayed with it for many barrels.

N160 is one of the cooler-burning powders around, and will absolutely wear less on your barrel than the comparable N555. Here's a chart that I still have on hand. That being said, H4350 is pretty good too regarding temps.

.260 Remington

Seems quit slow for that length barrel.

My 19" 260 is doing 2800fps with 130 ELD-Ms with H4350.

My 24" 6.5CM had them 2800-2950fps without any trouble with H4350.

It is slow. I've yet to hear of anyone breaking any speed records with a Sako/Tikka barrel though...usually the opposite. :D

I've gone as high as 45.3 without any signs of pressure forming...but accuracy was starting to fall apart again, and I doubt that I'd get back into it before I did run into pressure. N160 just isn't a speed demon powder anyway. If I were chasing velocity in the .260 I'd be using a cut-rifled barrel and the rest of my RL-16 up.

My 6.5x47L is basically the same speed (2,785) with the exact same bullet, same barrel length (but Bartlein), and only 38.8gr RL-16.

416 Hellfire Load Development

Howdy everybody, I can’t seem to find a dedicated 416HF thread in the hide, so figured I would make one…

I’m considering building a 416HF for ELR on a Bat XL, for 515-550gr projectiles.

I know a lot of guys are currently using the 416HF on the ELR circuit. Is there anybody prepared to share information on the cartridge?

Best propellant?

Consensus on best projectile for the cartridge?

Ideal twist rate?

Things to stay away from?

Any good data or inside info?

And where the heck do I get me a MCS ELR stock

TIA

Call Manners and get Paul Phillips number, assuming he's still the go to guy for the Manners ELR stocks

Bartlein Barrels Update

Try Southern Precision Rifles?

He normally orders the M24/M40 contour which is pretty close to the MTU. The M40 is 1.2" breech x 3" with a .900" muzzle.

The MTU is 1.250" x 2.750" with a .930" muzzle.

Can't think of anyone that would have a MTU in stock.

This is really close to a heavy varmint. When I was looking for an MTU talked to Greg at SPR, he told me the HV was so very close. I listened and got one.
I’ve used all three of these a number of times and am fine with any of them when I’m looking. I do trust Greg and Russ though.

"Over Gassed" AR's Fact or Fiction? Other Perspectives

I’ll toss in my 2 cents. Over gassing is real. I shoot a lot of ar’s 2 gun matches mainly. High round count guns are the norm. Guns with parts specific to running the gun fast as fuck will definitely need the gas adjusted.

Guns that are cheap that some my buddies shoot are always over gassed couple of them add cans and instantly start having issues.

Not saying an over gassed gun can’t run or that dirty guns aren’t problematic. But an over gassed gun can definitely have issues that are resolved buy limiting the gas flow. Whether it be gas block, tube, carrier key. Limiting gas has its benefits.

Pretty sure my match gun wouldn’t run for shit with full gas or it would just break its self. Bolt carrier is 3.9oz and has an unrivaled buffer. Hands down flattest shooting rifle ever.
