New CHAD clone from Preece.

A friend of mine designed and produced a highly effective muzzle brake for .50cal use and then scaled the design down to smaller calibers. I still have two of them and they are the most effective, least noisy, (to the shooter) brakes I've used to date.

When tested on my 300winmag with a 208gr bullet it went from 35ft-lbs of recoil with no brake, to 10 with the brake. He put some sort mathematical equation to it and determined it was 98% effective at eliminating recoil from gasses exiting the muzzle.

More to the point, I told him he should try for a patent and sell them. He said there wasn't much point in going through the trouble to obtain a patent only to have someone copy it and change one minor detail to get around the patent. Indeed, all is fair in love and war.

6.5 PRC Loads

3 loads under 1 MOA (2 under .75 MOA) with decent velocities that are likely to speed up in the next 50ish rounds sounds good pretty good to me. Definitely doesn’t sound like a dud barrel.

I stopped chasing velocity years ago, it’s just few more clicks on a turret and since you know your velocity, it’s predictable.

I’d pick #2 with a jump that will work for a while as the throat erodes and just go shoot.

Ammunition recommendations for 300 Win Mag

I have been using the Federal Premium Gold Medal 300 Winchester Magnum Ammo 215 Grain Berger Hybrid OTM ammunition for my Barrett MRAD, with excellent results. Unfortunately, they have discontinued this ammo and is extremely hard to find. I am looking for some other options out there with the heavier grain bullet with similar ballistics to the MK248 Mod 1.

I see that Freedom Munitions and Barnes makes a 220 grain OTM round and wondering if anyone has experience with these or does anyone have some suggestions.

Thank you

6.5 PRC Loads

I’ve been having somewhat disappointing results with 6.5 PRC. Shooting a Zermatt Origin w/ a Snowy Mtn (Bartlein) CF 22” barrel, 8 twist. SAAMI chamber w/0.188 freebore.

I’ve tried Berger 135 and 144. Hornady 147 and 153 Atips. Have tried N565, H4831SC and a few with Superperformance. Started with BR2 primers but shifted to FED 215 in hopes of better performance. ADG brass.

I’ve shot about 100 rounds of 5 and 10 shot groups. The best 5 shot groups I’ve had so far is:
1) 0.699 MOA 57.0 N565 Berger 144 with an SD of 13.5, 2794.8 fps
2) 0.711 MOA 56.0 H4831SC Berger 144 w an SD 9.6, 2881 fps
3) 0.807 MOA 57.5 H4831SC, 144’s w an SD 10.8, 2961 fps

So the 144’s have shown a little something, But none of the other bullets, Berger 135, Hornady 147 ELEM or 153 Atips have shot under 1 MOA out of 12 different 5 shot groups.

Next I’m testing some H1000 and CCI250 primers. Any advice on the results above is welcome. Also, I feel like this barrel is slow. Wondering if I got a dud barrel from Snowy Mtn Rifles.

‘Entry level’ chassis

@jumrobe if you have been on here long enough or if you stay long enough you'll recognize the cycles most of us go through. The phrase that is probably written on this forum "buy once, cry once" needs serious consideration.

Buy the MDT ACC Elite without question. If you don't like it you can get most of your money back if not all if you buy used.

The 19" forearm it has is reason enough to buy it over every other chassis - especially compared to the Bravo or anything with a forearm just as short.

If you buy the acc elite, and get a 1.2" straight barrel 26" long the chances you will need additional weight on the rifle to balance it properly will decrease significantly. So, you may end up only buying the chassis, barrel, action, etc. and not need a ton of accessories that double the base price of a chassis - the Bravo being an example.

I am not just repeating what I have read and/or seen. I am speaking from ownership and experience. I have had an MPA BA Comp, MDT XRS, KRG Bravo, Grayboe RIdgeback, Grayboe Renegade, Foundation Centurion (still have), and now I have an MDT ACC Elite.

Everything out there will work, but nothing is built better for competition than the elite (some may be equal). If I didn't have an elite I would buy the Aero Solus Chassis with the 17" forearm. Guys will argue why they like XYZ with experience and theory, but you can't argue against physics. Longer forearm and fat barrel = weight further towards muzzle = stable rifle on and off a bipod.

Spend the money up front. 1 or 2 years from now if you try to compete you won't notice the extra $400 (even $1K) or so dollars spent, but you sure as hell will notice if the rifle isn't stable and doesn't balance.

Inexpensive Shot Timer for PRS training

This from AMG is in your budget. I really like their full size timer, but it is always out of stock. The full size one is only $158 if you can find it in stock or wait a bit for a backorder.
Thanks for the lead! Seems like it will do everything I need it to. Really like that it does dry & live fire. It was in stock & only $60.
