Would you get into 6.5 Grendel in 2024?

Yes I would get into Grendel in 2025. I feel it has a far superior line up of available loaded ammo and bullets as compared to either the 6 ARC or 22 ARC. For hunting and shooting from short barrels it will out perform the 6 ARC and 22 ARC. The 6.8 SPC would compare favorably for hunting. For just target shooting I chose the 22 ARC. It shoots 7% flatter than the 6 ARC and much better than the Grendel. I just checked, I have five Grendel's and two 22 ARC chambered rifles.

KAHLES K624i - EYEBOX COMPARED TO PRESENT SCOPES

I’ve been using this scope for over a decade.

I originally selected it based on “ease of use” as described by users then - the eyebox was described as being rather generous then.

I’m thinking of getting a newer model, but can’t really justify doing so beyond having this itch for a new toy.

How does it stack up compared to the newer models?
One thing to keep in mind as a "general" rule, the shorter the erector (smaller magnification range) and the longer the focal length typically means more forgiving eyebox, DOF and parallax. I say this as a general rule because there are things you can do with an optical formula that can correct for this, but those "things" tend to increase the price rather quickly. Take for example the Hensoldt 3.5-26x56 - this is one of the most forgiving high erector designs I've seen in a short focal length (ultra short style) body, but you are going to pay dearly for this in both cost and weight. You can find something more forgiving in the more traditional longer focal lengths like the TT 5-25x56 and even the somewhat shorter ZCO 5-27x56.

Leaving the CA arguments aside, the K624i has earned a reputation for being "easy to get behind" this typically refers to the the eyebox experience. That said, shooters are also claiming the K540i which has double the erector (8x vs 4x) but also claiming it is very forgiving 🤷‍♂️ I won't really know until I get one for myself but I have a hard time believing it is "as forgiving" as the K624i but who knows what pixie dust Swarovski may have sprinkled onto the K540i...

OP - the best thing to do is try to get to a range or comp where some guys may have some of the newer/better scopes to see for yourself, just be sure to adjust the diopter to your eye first as a bad/wrong diopter setting can throw off your experience pretty far. If anything, maybe a Cabela's/Bass Pro is nearby and they might have a Vortex Razor Gen III 6-36x56 which would be a good optic that might be available locally to see side by side with your K624i...

That’s how you shoot a group. Squeeze, settle the reticle and squeeze again, and repeat. None of this shoot one wait 2-5 minutes and shoot again and repeat.

Retesting some reloads today. Very odd results!

Worked up a few great rifle loads last week. SD'S anywhere from 2-6. ES anywhere from 5-10. Reloaded the same this week. Same powder and charge, brass and primers and seating depth with same bullets and A&D 120 scale and Garmin Chrono. Well I must say this shocked me. SD'S were running in the 20's and ES was anywhere from 30-60. How can this be? I can't figure this one out! All Alpha Brass was prepared at the same time. FL sized with neck bushing and then ran a mandrel thru them before reloading. Am I missing something here?

Is the March FX 4.5-28x52 my new ZCO?

They sure make em sound nice on the internet but they did with the 3-24x52s back when as well. And that was a $3k POS. Fool me once..
The March 4.5-28x52 is in a different league vs. the 3-24x52 - meaning it is considerably better optically and with the new Shuriken turrets mechanically as well. Just because one scope from a manufacturer may struggle doesn't mean they all do. I think I explained some of the shortcomings of the 3-24x52 in my high magnification review I did a few years ago where I mention that I think it makes a great 3-20 scope but optically struggles above 20x. This is typically what I see from 8x and higher erector scopes, the sweet spot tends to be much more defined vs. shorter erector designs that tend to be more forgiving. For this reason I am skeptical of the new Kahles K540i but early reports say it is a forgiving design... waiting to get my hands on one.

Well, it appears that 100 MPH is the sweet spot. I know you should not make projections beyond your data, but I have a feeling 250 MPH might have landed well after clearing the signs.

Who made the sign? Have them design the car and it will survive.
