Shooting on BLM Land/National Forrest - Wa State

Here are a few thoughts from one who shoots on public land in the PNW:

- Know (for certain) that your shooting position / path of projectile / target are located on public land. There are a lot of ways to do this but you need to know this for certain. This may mean checking the little things like map datum to make 100% sure your map & co-ords line up with whatever source map and co-ords you're extracting data from.

- Know what public entity controls the land you're shooting on - ie is it WA State or Federal land?

- Read and understand the WA RCW (State Statutes) and WAC (rules and regs for agencies implementing statues) as they pertain to any aspect of what your doing

- Read and understand the policy regarding what you want to do based on the controlling agency's policy for the area you intend to shoot

- Understand Fire Restrictions for the area, the state, the agency - for instance you may or may not be able to shoot steel / you may or may not have to carry hand tools for fighting fire to be out in the woods / you may or may not be able to park somewhere in the woods / if convicted of starting a fire - they may try to make you pay for it, and there is probably extra incentive if the Leftists can tie it to guns.

- OK, so you've researched it and it is all good & understood. In the practical: I like to start with google earth and survey the area. I have the most success finding spots in looking at the road as it winds through an area. I am looking for a situation where the road forms a U and I am shooting across the open end of the U - usually across a draw. I prefer a situation where another car passing by on the road can not see the shooting position; and I want to park with my rig visible to me and nearby, but maybe 100 yards away from the shooting position. The target - from the road line I climb down the hill and use a mattock to dig a flat spot in the side of the hill @ 30 - 50 yards below the road line - now I have backstop.

- Hunting season - do not go out and bang round after round during the season. Folks may want to talk you about that in real time.

- One last thing: it is a public space, times are funny and you're gonna meet some folks out there occasionally. Especially if you shoot by yourself, be mindful of that. Also be mindful of the Sheriff or PissFirWillie (Fed forester) or a neighboring land owner showing up too - be able to explain in no uncertain terms that what your doing is legal and permissible based on all conditions.

Clean up all of your shit, including your brass - like you were never even there. Be safe and have fun.

CC whatcha holdin

I used to appendix carry this until I lost too much weight. I have changed to a signalling cannon IWB on my right hip. I had to change from a four pound fuse to a 2 and a half pound fuse and it really made a difference!

My "tactical" reloads were a slight problem. Everyone kept asking me why I had a small garbage can in my left front pocket. Even worse, I carried two reloads! Since I reload with good old fashioned home made black powder, I can hide in the cloud of smoke from my first shot long enough to get a reload done!

concealed carry of my reloads started to become a problem I just don't want to deal with anymore. It hurts my feelings when the "tier one operators" makes fun of me at the local speed shoots.

I'm saving up for a P320, wish me luck!

You will get a lot further and faster if you immerse yourself in groups of local shooters. They already know everything you don’t about the area. If you pass the on-boarding process it’s a go. If not, it will take years.
Yeah that’s my plan, I’m coming from florida and VA where I’ve been shooting a ton of PRS/sniper team matches, I’ll have to ask around see if anyone has a connection out there

6.8spc bolt gun build?

Big delay but have been playing with the rifle the last few weeks. Factory fuzion 115gn and Hornady 120sst shot pretty poorly. 1.25” plus

Tested 90gd, 2 shots each powder charge to find pressure and all 5 charges the bullets we’re a little under 3/4moa

Ran my AR load of 90gn TNT 31.1 AA2200 and produced the 5 shot group below running 2997fps

I Wish

And back window/all windows down.

And engine turned off…so they know you’re not gonna just take off; and also that the car’s probably not hot-wired (stolen).

They have no idea who or what they may be getting into when they approach your car, and getting them to dial it back a notch before the conversation even starts goes a long way to the possibility of a warning vs. an infraction. Just my $0.02 as someone who is a regular, and frequent, contributor to what I call the “Random Road Tax.”

That said, if they get out of their car in the snow and/or rain, you’re gettin’ a ticket! LoL
Yep.

Cop may not be in the top 10 most dangerous professions but the thought of walking up to a random car window is terrifying. I reckon they usually have some idea through their radios, but still there are a lot of morons out there and a lot of them hate any form of authority.

Firearms SAC 260 PRS Rifle, #700 Lapua brass, Type S Match F/L die set, MagnetoSpeed V3, All for $,3,500.00 shipped!

Long shot, but if you want to sell the barreled action let me know.
That would make it more difficult for selling it…. But I’ll take it into consideration.

There’s a lot of money tied up into the stock, having the barreled action fully bedded, $325, the surgeon rifles bottom metal that’s another $275, custom paint job $175. It adds up quick.

If someone on here is interested in the Manners stock please let me know.

Thanks

Bergara bxr 10/22 compatibility?

Looking to build a semi auto for the new Nrl22 class. Ideally looking for threaded receiver. Mos is no longer being made. Grey birch is no longer available with a new proprietary inlet on the way for their chassis.

Considering bergara bxr but curious how 10/22 compatible it is. Barrel wouldn’t be since threaded but fine as I am going to have a custom barrel threaded and chambered.

More concerned on inlet, trigger and bolt.

Thanks for any insight.

Yeah I’m going to be in Whidbey so a decent drive, hoping to see if I can’t find something in the MT Baker National forest area

Parker Hale M-85 Build

I built two M85 rifles from cast receivers (and still have two more receivers), one for my oldest son and one for me. They are both chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor. If doing it now, I think I would go with a 6mm Creedmoor.

Going to disagree about the scope mounts. I took steel picatinny rails, cut them to the length of the receiver then machined down the part of sides so it would fit between the ears on the receiver. I machined the bottom of the rail so would give a 20 MOA elevation. While doing this I left a tab on the bottom of the rail that shoulders against the recess in the receiver to help secure the base from moving under recoil. I then drilled and tapped the receiver to screw the base down.

Doing this lets us use any scope ring we want for height and tube diameter. While not original to the M85, it fits our needs very well. Of course it does mean drilling and tapping the receiver but this was OK for us.

I agree on the trigger, they are great. Able to adjust down to about 2 lbs and with the trigger shoe, it behaves as a two stage trigger.

Picture of the rail on the receiver of my rifle.
