Kids school assignment reading is viewed mostly to answer questions - just finish the assignment. Reading should be a path, not to answering questions, but making the right questions inescapable. I see this in otherwise capable adults who are of the opinion that data and information is to answer questions rather that to ask the right questions. This, along with other educational trends is why the US is trailing much of the world in knowledge, intelligence and education - among other things.

I'm of the view that good writing comes, at least in part, from a lot of reading. There are alternatives to the traditional ink on paper media and, while there is nothing wrong with that on the surface, it leaves "readers" with limited experience in reading as electronic media is mostly short pieces and summaries. From about the 2nd or 3rd grade through high school I read a few books a month outside of assignments and still read at least a few books a year. I attribute my ability to learn and problem solve is an extension of that.

Yes, the schools have too many problems dumped on their plate so time and focus has been taken away from the basics. Its tough to push scholastic progress while dealing with all the other requirement places on schools and teachers. I've run a NFP that works with kids education and we see it everyday. The other big piece that we miss is the fact that education should take place primarily in the home. I don't mean homeschooling but parents and families engaged with the kids in learning - taking what they glean in the classroom and running with it. The prevailing view today is that the schools are, or should be, the primary source of leaning - a misguided view.

Tri lug is definitely the better option. If you go with direct thread, you will have to check that it’s still tight from time to time. It doesn’t have to loosen much to risk a baffle strike.

If you do choose to go with direct thread, be aware that the muzzle threads on the gun are too long and the can will not screw on far enough to seat the mount on the barrel shoulder. There are spacers available to address this. I have one, but I can’t remember where I got it.

Looking for information about a 22LR suppressor

Suppressors don't have a negative effect on accuracy per se, they do however add a big variable that can lead to effects in accuracy.

Some suppressors will effect accuracy as they foul whereas others do not, some suppressors will cause bullets to speed up as they foul, they cause more fouling in the barrel/action, loose crud in the suppressor can fall back into the barrel/action and effect accuracy.

I've used three different suppressors and only one of them has had little to no effect on accuracy. I can shoot 800-1000 rounds and see no degradation in accuracy at all, and no speed changes (average speed or ES open up).

If you are building a rifle to compete at the highest level 100% do not use one, otherwise feel free to give one a go. You just might find they cause you a bit of grief.

Bullet seating tests in vain with Semi-automatic AR-10

You have discovered that a Semi Automatic rifle is a different animal than a bolt action rifle. When the round hits the shoulder of the chamber the case stops but the inertia of the bullet keeps it moving. You really can't stop it from happening. Even cannelured bullets will move a few thousandths of an inch. You simply have to account for it.

Idea for presentos on a limited budget

Once you've shot out a barrel there really isn't much use for it.

Here's an idea from the USAMU Custom Firearms Shop. These make nice handouts - gifts - keepsakes for the cost of your gunsmith - machinists' time.

The machinist cuts the barrel into coin-thick pieces, polishes them, then laser engraves front and back. Somebody does you a favor? Does a great job? Has a nice achievement worthy of on-the-spot recognition? Hand him one of these tokens as an "Attaboy" or "Thank you."
