Precision Rifle Gear New Athlon Rangecraft Chronograph-Garmin Xero Killer?

I got to try mine out yesterday, just with some pistols at an indoor range. A Tacsol Paclite 22 suppressed, an HK CC9, and a Ruger Bisley Hunter 44. The shots that the Garmin picked up were all tracking with the Athlon and within a few fps. I had no high readings from the Athlon like some have reported when testing against the Garmin.

What’s interesting to me though is that the Garmin only picked up about half the shots. The height of the table wasn’t quite high enough to be within their suggested range so the muzzles were considerably higher than they should be, 18” or better above the chronos. The Athlon didn’t miss a shot even with the 22. Even shooting faster than it would analyze the shot they were all still there in the string.

Out of the box I’d say it works as advertised.

Let’s put it this way: i’ve never cleaned a PRS stage, and if its windy i just hold left edge. Most of my shooting is 700 and under. Quantico likes 400-700 for PRS, and Peacemaker is lacking in the 600-900, jumping from 585 to 1014, so I mainly just hammer the <600 side of the hill.

Its sounding like staball 6.5 would be g2g for my purposes. I just want to crank out <0.75 MOA rounds so I can send 75-150 of them down range every Saturday without having to spend Weds, Thurs, and friday nights at the reloading station. Here in NoVA we do have cool mornings that turn into scorchers, but it sounds like staball 6.5 isn’t super sensitive to that level of heating.

Is my line of thinking here sound? I can snag an 8 lb keg of staball 6.5 locally for $300 and its very tempting.

I think if PRS accuracy is your goal boss, then the SB6.5 is probably going to suit you just fine.

Best of luck!

Currently I have a Leupold MK4HD 6-24 MIL PR2 reticle. I really like the scope but hate the reticle. That is a personal thing, I just don’t like open center dot style reticles. The subtensions are great, no complaints there. I just have issues with precision holds with the dot, it is that way with every open center dot reticle I have owned / shot…

But I have had about every medium to top shelf scope on a rimfire less a Tangent or ZCO (I am just not going to spend that much money on a scope).

A civil post. What an oddity.

I have not. I know a couple three people who have lived there as residents/citizens. Their personal accounts serve as more than enough for me to never to want to set foot there or even send a nickel.

I'm not sure what you think you may have seen in my other posts but I have made no claims or comments to say I believe South Africa will thrive or even survive if they oust all the white farmers or whoever and local non-whites take over.

But, unlike so many before you with panties twisted up in knots over things I actually didn't say, you posted a measured response about your actual experiences. Kudos.

History definitely paints a bleak picture for the future of South Africa should it stay on the current path. I just haven't ruled out the slim possibility that they might have an epiphany, hire consultants, maybe even white consultants, to run things for them once they confiscate it.

I was there in the 60's for desegregation, civil rights, all of it. I've seen everything you talk about without having the travel to Africa.
I have spent quite a bit of time in Africa, and I can assure you desegregation in the US cannot hold a candle to most of Africa when they decide it’s time to shake things up.

2) I know how you feel about the many failed attempts to duplicate the Fortner action. Sorry, that motion and feel is still what I want most and can you make it dry fire safe and fit in a 700 chassis, thanks. Don't do it like their weird Fortner sporter model either, I want the thumb pad on the back. That geometry is what makes it so slick to use. I don't want some nasty Savage straight pull abomination either. I want a straight pull that feels like a Fortner when you run it. I want it to feel like it's running on ball bearings lubed with the tears of liberals. It's really kind of surprising I don't have a Fortner yet actually.
