Yep. Dallas, TX.
Targeted police after the riots protesting the Alton Sterling shooting that the media and the Kenyan precipitated.
Targeted white police to be specific but I believe one of the officers shot was black.
Shot 12. 5 fatal.

AK74 semi with optic.

He's the one they killed with the robot bomb.

A few days later. . . . .
Baton Rouge, LA ambush by different shooter. Again precipitated by the media and our glorious leaders.
6 shot. 3 DOA. 1 died in 2022 after complications.

ETA: Grok and other sources originally tagged that pic as Micah Xavier Johnson. Now reporting as today's shooter.

I struggle with the idea of slugs right now, primarily because if I really need the added performance that they offer, I can get it for the same cost (or less) with a .22LR. A good rimfire doesn’t need the expense of an air tank, compressor, or a reseal job when it leaks, and still produces more fpe than almost any air rifle of reasonable/equal cost. There’s also a lot less effort with their set up, as most don’t need “tuning” to shoot well. The right ammo, yes, but tuning, generally no. My understanding is slugs usually take a bit more work to really squeeze everything out of them.

Pellets, on the other hand, fill the void below ~100fpe, are still cheaper to shoot than a rimfire, and easier to get good groups out of. A PCP shooting pellets will still need the same support equipment as one shooting slugs, but I accept that as a necessary evil to gain the flexibility of use that non-firearm, lower fpe air rifles offer.

Now, that all being said, I’m watching the slug space as it makes advancements in design and what have you. When shooting slugs becomes nearly as easy as pellets while offering significant performance advantages, I’ll consider making the switch (or at least adding them in to my current options). I think they’ll reach that point in the next decade, if not sooner!

This is why I've gone to slugs for my more powerful pcp's, specifically the Altaros slugs, for the longer distance shooting and competitions.

Way back many years ago here on SH I learned about environmentals and have been applying that knowledge to airguns ever since.

I can't help but admire Matt because he's always been a straight forward guy and a great shooter.

Hopefully these new X slugs will be a cheaper alternative than Altaros when they arrive on the market.

Yes I also have less powerful sub 30 fpe pcp's that I use pellets in exclusively but it's quite a different experience. I appreciate both types of projectiles and the attributes each offer.

Firearms Thunderbeast TBAC .338 Ultra

TBAC .338 Ultra with Area419 adapter. $1,650 shipped/insured.

I’ve had this several years and put less than 50 combined rounds of .223 and 6.5 Grendel through it. I do not like recoil and don’t have access to long-range shooting locally, so have no plans for a large caliber rifle.

Might entertain trades for high end Binos, Sako/Tikka 6.5 Creedmoor + glass.

If you are in Louisiana and have good references, we might can get this in your hands sooner than later. PM me.

Hunting & Fishing First Western Elk Hunt…Essential Gear/Clothing Advice Needed

Ha! A little band-aid undertone to your water just lets you know it's treated!

OP, the cook set is kind of an individual thing, unfortunately. Cookware seconds as dishware. Unless you want to eat out of the same pot, or cook/eat at different times, I'd just get two.

Your tent is community gear. Consider a 3 person tent to have room to get gear out of the weather. A 4 season tent might be your best option if you plan on fall hunting very often, but adds some weight. I have a Black Diamond Hilight and like it. BD Firstlight is another good option. A 3 season 2p will be significantly less weight though. Two of us have hunted many times out of a 2P Big Agnes Fly Creek, but quarters were are pretty tight.

8x or 10x binos are plenty. Use a chest pack. A lightweight tripod with bino adapter makes long hours of glassing far more pleasurable (and stable) than holding them up to your face. I always bring one.
