Why are AR15s so difficult to shoot for the average shooter?

Take airguns for example, you'll get the best of the shot if you use good form and follow through on the shot. Don't change your hold or anything else if possible and you'll be rewarded.

Semi's if shot the same way can shoot great. The fact is you need to finesse the shot because you can't get away with some things like you could with a heavy centerfire bolt gun.

Army M24 Build Thread

A few select M24 systems to be auctioned off tomorrow 8/17/2025 by Rock Island Auctioneers at their Bedford, TX location. One is the incredible M24 Lease Contract rifle (1-of-16) with Remington archive documentation, originally purchased by an Illion, NY employee after being returned from the U.S. Army Fort Riley, Kansas. The other one is an early Remington Collectors Edition 25th Anniversary (1987-2012) version (1-of-less than 2000), with the scarce "G" prefix ser.# that pre-dates the later "RR" prefix recievers. Cant wait to see where the hammer drops

Photo taken on a SWAT deployment a couple of days ago. LE Marksman/Observer deployed on the callout. Neighborhood cat decides it's a good place to catch some sun.

Totally epic photo! Because Cats know who they are safe with. And who is a warm body as well.

6mm Mini Short Mag

No it's not worth the hassle and I know this because;
I could roll WSSM brass on a flat surface and see the run out of the neck.
The primer pockets were all over the place in depth and in other aspects.
Flash holes were horrible as in not centered and there was a lot of brass burs punched into the inside of the case which I reamed off.
I benchrest prepped all of my 243WSSM brass including neck turning and after doing all that my groups shrunk by half.
That batch of WSSM brass was very inconsistent, so much so I threw 25% away, some before I did anything and some after I did everything to it.

Yeah it was a screamer but that's about it. Really only 1 moa if that but this was in a AR. I sold it shortly afterwards then got a 6mmART40 from whitely which was such a great cartridge using Lapua brass. This brass was the opposite in quality compared to WSSM and only down 200 fps or so. Plus it shot tight for an AR, even won a night match with it.

I'm kinda sticking with normal cartridges nowadays because of the pitfalls I ran into when going for extremes. Give me a 6mmBR for normal distances and a 6.5 Saum for longer and I'm good, those are my go-to's now.

Please take a moment to remember John Cruickshank the last remaining Victoria Cross recipient from WW2. He led a daring raid against a U-Boat and saved his crew in an incredible feat of bravery.

It is not fair to say that 'they don't make them like this any more." Because there are his equals and betters who served in Korea, Vietnam, Somalia and both Iraq and Afghanistan.

But he is the last of a generation of warriors who saved the free world long before most of us were born. And deserves to be remembered by his fellow-warriors and their adjuncts.

RIP, sir. You saw and did things most of us can never imagine. And then went on to live a famiily life as a mild-mannered banker. Nothing could be a greater requiem for a real warrior.

5.56 AR Only Loads

Measured things to hell and back.
The seconds kinda suck. Lol

The Sierra 69g smk's are giving me problems getting an accurate measurement to the lands.
I have cleaned the chamber and still not consistent.

Is there something about the bullet shape to ogive that's giving me a problem?

I have not yet got a Sierra manuel, I'm told they offer a separate set of loads for ar's?

I have a custom seating plug on order. I think the bullets are bottoming out in the stem.

EDC knife recommendation

I've lost 2 decent knives so far and they were both Micro's. Each the same way meaning they jostled out of my pocket from the loose fit on my pockets.

I prefer magnacut steel fixed blade knives now though. This special steel has most of the qualities of SS and much that of high carbon steel so it's very hard and doesn't rust easily. The 62-63 ish HRC means it'll hold an edge a long time.

For more basic shapes Dawson knives have been unbeatable in best bang for the buck. These aren't mass produced cheap knives but more of a semi custom with a small shop fashion and flare. Each one comes with a sheath and a Ulticlip to attach so it carries well in a pocket and you won't loose it because the tensioned clip fits hard on the edge of the pocket or if you prefer on a belt using their standard belt hardware.

Here's mine so far but I plan on getting a few more at least.

Reloading and Tuning my 16" AR-10

Just measure you fired cases from each of you rifles (I would measure 5+cases or an average) and make notes for each rifle.

My first year production SR-25 fired cases measure 1.631"(tight chamber) and my 2013 era GAP 10 fired cases measure about 1.634". Your Rifles should be in about the same neighborhood. These measurements are calculated from the comparator number length and converted to the SAMMI minimum go gauge length.

Don't be surprised if you get some higher datum length numbers on a Rifle that could be over gassed. I have a buddy that has a Les Bayer AR-10 that shoves the fired cases shoulders forward to 1.640". There's no way I'd believe that Les Bayer cut that chamber that long. The cases were from Factory Federal GMM. He gives me the cases to reload.

M1-A's & M-14's are notorious for shoving case shoulders forward on extraction. On the two M1-A's I own, I turn the gas spindle off and fire 5 rounds without the gas and then measure those cases to get a more accurate fired datum length.
